As someone who worked at Gamestop for over 6 years; I'd be utterly shocked if they keep supporting the retro initiative beyond the first half of the year. Every single 'thing' they've tried has been abandoned several months in. Cricket, selling used tech in store, the Pro Elite membership, even retro games have been attempted before, and dropped shortly after. It's simply another short term attempt to profit, though I kind of hope they keep doing it since it's at least an option.
Last week a went to GameStop and I got resident evil 3 on Xbox . When I got home and opened it I noticed the game was completely ruined looking like someone was rubbing it on gravel. I returned and told the employee he should check the game before selling it . He basically told me that wasn’t his job and that they should have checked it on arrival .no apology . I won’t be going back.
It doesn't seem like I am alone with the following sentiment: I like listening to your takes on retro gaming in general but seeing so many thumbnails with GameStop logos or labels in them is kind of starting to put me off the channel. You have a great speaking voice and your taste in games is similar to mine. I would love to hear even more about specific games you enjoy and why you enjoy them. I know the channel is called the Y2K Collector but not all of the videos need to be about buying retro games or the retro game market overall. Maybe it's time to mix things up a bit with the overall presentation or vibe of the channel, and not rely so heavily on GameStop and game buys for content. You kind of lost me when you said a while back that you were going to stop buying so many games this year, but soon after seemed to have doubled-down on the GameStop buys. That's my 2 cents, and I could be way off now, as I've sort of trailed off from watching the channel as closely in recent weeks. Take that for what you will, or don't.
The game stores in my area never have any hard finds or deals just a bunch of common games everyone already owns. I see retro gaming going away for a few years soon.

I just gave up on physical game collecting. Ive got a lot of the games i wanted. If you only care about playing games, jailbreaking a system is much better. You are not making some reseller rich. That is already a win in my book.

My retro game store here in Denver Level 7 is actually a great retro store, the prices can be at average or a little bit below average but they have a great selection, now most of these people who work there have no clue about retro games and that's what they're known for, that's to easy to work there and have no knowledge of retro games, nobody's going there for modern games, so if I worked at my job and I didn't have knowledge of my job task I wouldn't expect to last long there
Sadly GameStop left Puerto Rico where I live since 2016 so we have to settle with the handful of mom and pop game stores here.... We have the website to buy it but the experience ain't the same. But yeah GameStop is becoming more like eBay and price charting, sometimes more expensive in some of the GameStop's I visited in Orlando FL recently on my vacation.
Even if I bought a reproduction game I wouldn’t know and would play it and resell it to them for next to nothing. If I got nothing back it would suck but it’s never happened before and if it does happen once in a while it’s not a big deal to me because I buy so few. games anyway
Love your channel but i h8 Gamestop so much as a whole and dislike that us gamers keep supporting them but what can be done? Wish they would get bought out and rebranded with customer focus in mind but one can dream. 🤷🏽♂️

Like all the fake GBA games that exist would be a nightmare for a GameStop … and with repro carts in abundance… I’m sure they have lost some money ..

It’s Supply and demand .. people want to replay games they grew up playing and have re-live the memories… for many people it was some of the happiest times in their young lives … the lack of responsibilities plus nostalgia is huge for many people

I used to fall for the "expensive game" trap at gamestop buying them just because its a little underpriced. Now if its not my style or genre, im good.

Picked up 39 Xbox 360 games at a thrift store recently for $1 each. These were in super nice, used condition. No sports in there thankfully
