    There's a Retro GameStop in my neck of the woods, second time I went they had a few NES/SNES/N64/GameBoy/GBA/Genesis games (albeit they weren't actually out on the store floor, they had generic cases and you brought them to the checkout), and even an N64 Console available. Props to that store for at least trying.

    • @SkiBumMSP
      @SkiBumMSP 13 дней назад +4

      It seems what is considered "retro" these days is anything older than the last two generations of consoles. I consider "retro" to go all the way back to even the days of the original "Pong" or Magnavox Odyssey. I especially think of things like Atari 2600, Intellivision or Colecovisio as being "retro", but then again, being a 55 year-old that grew up through the 70s and 80s, so I remember when all that was brand-new and current state-of-the art at the time. Also to add, I even consider many of the arcade games from the "golden age of arcade" to be "retro", such as Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Defender, Joust, etc, many of which can be played these days via emulation.

Noticed, it said "dark, brushed, satin, faux", which is exactly the type of surface that is on that XBox 360. Many of those loose discs you see at stores like Gamestop are discs that were stolen from thrift stores, pawn shops, and maybe even the thieves' friends or not so good friends. You won't believe how many empty retro game cases I have seen at thrift stores and pawn shops over the past decade. I rarely ever buy loose games for the reasons I have given. I probably have a handful because those games would have been difficult to find in stores here complete in box, which I prefer.
    Gamestop has been awful for the past decade, not many reasons why I would ever want to shop there anymore. I currently play only retro PS1 or PS2 games and Gamestop just never has anything I want anymore.

    I think some people do throw away boxes for the games but GameStop gives the same trade in value for games whether they’re loose or in box..so you can just trade in the carts or discs and then sell the boxes separately on eBay or something if they’re boxes that are somewhat sought after

    Gamestop employee here, yeah, corporate is certainly coming up with some "interesting" ideas lately. Retro stores are a good idea in theory, but i dont know. I work in a smaller store of sorts, only seen a few gamecube games come in, maybe 3 or so PS1 games, a few ps2 (though at the time there were hardly any games we could take), certainly PS3 and Xbox 360 games but in my opinion, not really "retro" yet. Did have a couple N64 games come in semi recently but that's it. They even have all nearby stores sending all their retro stuff to the retro stores, and it's sad that the stores in the video have such little inventory. Worst part is, forcing customers to have to go to the retro store to get simple stuff that we used to carry regularly such as PS3, XB360, DS, and Wii Games.
    I personally sell retro disc games on ebay and amazon and honestly it makes me so sad seeing how gamestop is "handling" it all. I've never liked how they don't/won't separate games that are loose and ones that are either just missing their manual and/or complete. Expectations, expectations, expectations. Average customer no doubt that buys something on the website assumes/expects to get at the very least the original case when buying a game. Lets not even get into the condition of some of these games whether they be scratched up pretty good or terribly "resurfaced" with a ultra cheap machine leaving swirl marks.
    Their newest idea: They're going to start having us be middle-folks for PSA grading of cards here soon too, which is just weird. So customer will come in, have their card in a penny sleeve and some other special case over/on that (both of which of course GS sells in store, convenient) and then GS will ship it out to PSA to get it graded then charge the customer based on what PSA charged GS (and im assuming a bit more on top of that because of the "service") to pick it up. There's more to it, just can't remember.

      As someone else who works at Gamestop the retro stores are not doing well since other stores are not sending the retro stuff to the retro stores. I think the reason why they do not sell like Super Nintendo or Nintendo 64 games or Sega Genesis is because a lot of people were scamming GameStop with those games back in the early 2010s when they were accepting Nintendo games or Sega games they were selling them reproduction cards like for an example some customers who have reproductions of rare games and they will sell them to GameStop and GameStop didn't know if they were repos or legit cards so people were getting a lot of money out of these games that were reproductions

So how exactly is gamestop doing what is needed to precent these counterfeits from being taken and sold to consumers? I always ask, and it's almost always just DS games. Nobody has had nes, snes, n64, etc.

    Which investment firms are paying you to specifically trash gamestop?

    • @RaiderBo69
      @RaiderBo69 4 дня назад

      gamestop is lucky to have shareholders willing to be diluted. they lack the ability to create new cash flows or boost reveune/sells meaningfully. the only reason the company still exists is because retail is chasing a dream of getting rich and screwing over wall street. RC has proven he will rug pull any run, even put verbage in multiple filings about it. Look at what happened during the run up this year... he diluted, stopping the run from going higher. He has 500m more shares to dilute with. Enjoy it.

    “Retro” should be 6th gen and previous. I don’t think the 7th gen is old enough to be considered retro, they’re just outdated by todays standards

    You have to keep in mind the stock is determined by what you trade in. If nobody brings ps1 there... no ps1 games 🤷‍♀️

    • @jrob0021
      @jrob0021  13 дней назад +1

      This line of thinking applies to your average local game store, but I don’t think you can put it quite this simply when GameStop is a multi billion dollar company that could very easily source a solid inventory for each of their retro stores. Yes trade ins are going to make a difference over time - the stores with better trade ins will generally have better items. But theres no reason a company like GameStop should be marketing a new retro store, yet they’re just having these stores put out the old inventory they already had.
