Truly a god-tier tutorial. This format is so versatile, so slick, and easy to put together! It also does a great job of showing Resolve's capabilities. Resolve is not very user-friendly, so it really helps to follow along with someone who can navigate it well and teach you how to appreciate it.
For a viewer using davinci resolve, I would do ANYTHING to make you keep on going with these types of videos. I think this is the niche that is PERFECT for you as a channel creator and in the long run, it will help you alot :) Pls pls dont stop with these!!!!
@@MrAlexTech Absolutely!!! Burnout can be a thing but if Davinci keeps updating, you'll have more and more to make videos about! If your afraid you'll run out of ideas, take it a bit at a time and maybe find out cool ways of 'modding' resolve if it comes to that to help or even entertain people even more. I'll be watching all your videos, you'll do great :)
As a person who is constantly watching a LOT of guides for various things. Your stuff is by far at the tippy top in terms of overall quality. No pointless nonsense, actually energetic feel with a tongue-in-cheek style and extremely easy to follow. Just keep doing what you're doing, you're extremely good at it.
I rarely comment under videos, but this is really good, instead of 5 hours of constant pain, I could do my slideshow in about an hour with also editing the images, but the slideshow itself was very quick, and turned out quite fabulous thanks to this fast and compact guide, can't thank you enough
I cannot for the life of me figure this out. I have a middle click but it apparently is not recognized by my Resolve 18. Under "Nodes" I can right click the "ColoredBorder" effect and then I can paste that one by one on the subsequent images in the clips. If I multi-select, only the first image in the selected sequence gets the effect. "Apply Composition" does nothing for me. Can you elaborate on how to get the white border, en masse, without the middle click? This is driving me crazy!
@@TravisNichols Stay in the fusion panel and select all the clips to the right of the one that has the border. Right-click the one with the border and click 'apply composition'. Done
Thanks. Was told by my wife to make a slideshow of pics very quick and I just followed this tutorial and was finished in just less than 30 minutes. So very helpful..
Excellent, not just the slideshow tutorial, but you cover other things like applying transitions to multiple cut points, saving custom transitions and a lot more. Keep up the good work!
MrAlexTech, you have made the long avoided transition to Resolve a joy. Following along in DR while your video is playing has made all the difference. I cannot thank you enough.
I came for tutorials on specific things but I stayed to get inspired to improve the quality of my videos and make them interesting. Thank you infinitely Alex!
lol Dude, about two years ago I did a 400 photo video and it took me about 10 days to do this on each individual photo. Now that I know the secret I'm going to do some more. Thank you man I really appreciate it.
I've been editing with DR for about two years now... these tutorials always blow my mind because I realize how complicated my workflow has been until now. Thank you for that great content!
Thank you for being the first person to actually teach me something that I was able to replicate on my own as an extremely ignorant beginner video editor. While I had some frustrations at the start due to not resizing down my photos, after some time, I caved and did it, which then made it so that I could follow your tutorial and get the desired outcome. Again, thanks.
EXCELLENT! Short, effective, easy to follow, clear instructions, useful tips and more. Why can't everyone else teach like this. Subscribed. Thank you and keep em coming.
I just know that years down the line, even when Resolve is at Version 20 or whatever, this vid will still be my go-to grail for a refresher tutorial. Timeless:)
Love the videos as always however I had an issue with the Fusion page. The coloured border went around the whole size of the screen and not just the reduced photo. Help?
Did you resize the image to be smaller than 1920x1080 or whatever screen resolution with an image editor before importing it in Resolve? I’ve had that problem before, but it was because I was scaling the image in Resolve.
Can I ask a question? When I apply the colored border, the border goes to the boundary of the whole screen, instead of the image itself. Is the behaviour changed in 18 beta?
Dude you rock. Way to do video howtos perfectly! Just a little problem. When doing the Fusion colored border I get the border with a ton of transparent padding rather than like in your video how the image border is tight against the image. Maybe a bug.
I LOVE YOU. I ABSOLUTELY DO !!!!! This one came out right at the moment i was thinking of making a video with my favourite photos!!!!! THANKS MASSIVELY !!! You have really helped me understand many thing so far, and you keep on teaching me with every single video you upload !!!
Alex, you mention using the middle mouse button to copy the fusion colour border, but if your using a trackpad on an Apple device there is no middle click function supplied by Apple. Is there an alternative procedure to copy this without using the mouse?
I needed to make a slide show. Found this video. Amazingly helpful and informative. I always feel helpless up against the Davinci interface because who knows where things are. Your video made the slide show easy to get right. Thanks!
Much better. This time you got to the point quickly and you expanded it without a lot of useless talking that had nothing to do with the subject you’re getting better
Alright Alex, Im fully sold on resolve. I think i've been over complicating my approach to transitions and other things, so your channel will be THE channel to...RESOLVE my problems
Thank you for this. I tried several online photo reel makers, all with a random critical annoyances/hurdles. Didn't think it would be fairly easy in DR, nice one.
A brilliant tutorial Alex, I am getting into DR17 and really enjoying watching your channel which is so informative, thank you! - your videos are just brilliant i'm learning so much again much appreciated, please keep up these great videos!! big fan/supporter of your work! thank you.
I had a struggle, in the fusion page, the white border applies to the timeline, not in my image, so there's a gap between the image and the border. What should I do? THANK YOU SO MUCH
Great video. Thank you very much. Question: How would this change if I wanted to add in some video clips along with a few of photos in the slideshow? Do you have another video that show this as well?
Thank you for your tutorials! When I add the Colored Border to my image, the timeline gets the border and not the image. I searched the "problem" and it appeared to more than just me. Does someone has an idea on how to attach it to the image? Is there a setting that I'm not seeing?
I have this same problem! There's defintely something. The reason why this tutorial works is because he's using the image resizer - if the images are larger, it doesn't work. But there should be a way...
Your explanation best describes my issue as well. I could ungroup the effect and manually tweak the sizing, but then again that defeats the purpose of trying to speed things up. Hoping that someone who's willing to throw more time at this will find a work-around. The effect is nice though if it worked out for us. I wonder if this is resolved hahah in version 18. ;)
For me i have been able to get the Colored Border by dragging the border into the yellow line on the fusion. [using DR 17] However, what am unable to do is copy the same effects to the rest of the images.
i’ve learned alot from watching your vids! i was wondering if you could make a tutorial on how to add a “box blur” to a video 🤔 please and thank you! keep up the good work Alex! 🍻
During the white border phase, my photos automatically have the transparent (checkered) background before the actual border itself. How do I get rid of the checkered background? It's creating a gap between the actual photo and the white border.
Is a simple "Thank You" enough for sharing this great bit of learning? Something in my photography videos I will be putting to good use from this day forth. Again Thank You. 👍📸
Thank You For this tutorial! I was looking for something that would take my adoption photo reels to the next level. I was using a basic style and it wasn't what I liked! This really sets these apart from the first set of reels!
Great work...checker background in the fusion part... all ways coming up. I used 3 CPUs to see the problem. Same issue. I really like this photo slideshow
Hello Alex, Thank you for the very useful lesson! I have one issue, could you please support me? When I'm copying the white border in the Fusion, and then selecting a few clips, and then pressing the middle mouse button, nothing happened to my project. Borders just are not added to the selected clips. Is there any additional setting in the Fusion itself or what I'm doing wrong? Thank you in advance!
Great tutorial, just what I was looking for. But when I add the adjustment clip and dynamic zoom, it overrides the zoom settings from the first step, pushing the white border to go outside the frame for the first few photos. Am I doing something wrong here?
I really liked the white borders you added here, but I am trying to do mine with some really different sized photos, including some vertical, and some horizontal. When I use your method to apply the borders, it ends up adding blank space between the photos and the border on most of the others, because the one I used was larger than the rest. Any way to make sure the borders go right on the outside of each photo, no matter the size of all the photos?

In 18, there's an "Apply Composition" in the context menu (right click) now. Same thing, but more visible.
