  • A little demonstration video on how to backup a trailer. Plus a bit of explaining the difference between a gooseneck trailer, and a bumper hitch trailer. Enjoy!

For me, the key words were: the trailer is now leading me and I’m following in its path. I was practicing and getting frustrated and this was the breakthrough for me-I can do it now!!

The easiest way for me to learn how to back a trailer (looking in your mirrors or out the back window) is by paying attention to the bottom of the steering wheel. To make the trailer go left, make the bottom of your steering wheel move to the left. Trailer right, bottom of steering wheel right. Etc. I find this is easier to remember than turning the steering wheel (top) opposite the way you want the trailer to go. Some people learn differently than my preferred way too. Also, after a while, backing a trailer becomes natural and easy. Very informative video as I normally pull a bumper pull 16' trailer hauling a tractor, skid steer, or a smaller crawler hoe.

the way i learned is i took my fourwheeler and hooked it up to my dirtbike trailer and learned in my back yard, granted i have 13 acres to do so but i taught myself then moved to my pick up and again did it in my back yard

A couple of points that should be posted. You have a gooseneck trailer, which has a different follow pattern than a bumper pull trailer. Wider turns will be required to compensate for the gooseneck trailer wheels off tracking. Thanks for the video. I've never pulled a gooseneck. I understand the theory of the trailer movements, but have not pulled one.

I’m almost understanding this. I need to see this done on a limited space area. Like a one lane each way street into a one lane wide driveway.

Great advice. It really jist takes practice. Try to practice in an empty parking lot before the full ones lol

I’m adjusting from two years of bumper pull, to gooseneck. It’s a different dance but everything is learnt through enough practice
