  • The untold story behind Led Zeppelin's legendary concerts in June 1972 and how they captured lightning in a bottle only to release it 31 years later. Their North American Tour was frenetic as the now band of Stairway To Heaven defended and augmented their place in the rock and roll business. An inside look into the lives of Bonham, Jones, Page and Plant, how they conquered the WEST while facing real obstacles that stardom brings along. We'll explore the setting, sights and sounds that led to explosive shows at both The City of Night Los Angeles and Pacific Blues Long Beach Arena. Some of the most electrifying performances ever captured on tape. This album deserves to be as popular as The Song Remains The Same and BBC Sessions. #ledzeppelin #documentary #jimmypage #robertplant #johnpauljones #johnbonham #losangeles #longbeachcalifornia #classicrock

I really want to thank you so much for your amazing docs. As a Zeppelin junkie this is just amazing and I really look forward to seeing new videos. I'll never forget the first time hearing Zep. I was in a friend's car and the three of us were being teenagers and indulging in some of the wacky weed. How many more times had come over the radio and the three of us just sat there each saying who the hell is this. Just one of those magical moments discovering musicians you would fall in love with. Well enough just thanks again

In June of 72 I was 4 about to turn 5 and about 5 miles away from the Swing auditorium. (Hey how come my parents wouldn't let me go to the concert??!!) and I've seen that footage of Page playing with his rose sleeved shirt and I always thought it seemed to be so different in that he was wearing jeans and then then the flashy shirt. I had no idea it was the first time he wore it, and I can see that it was the start of a new flashier, showier Zeppelin. Fascinating history!

Your attention to detail is unreal. This is my first time hearing Zep perform Louie Lou-i..awesome. I love how you showcase Zep evolving through their tours...just like you did specifically with NO Quarter MSG 1973. It's funny hearing your take on this entire album. The first time I heard any of this album or even knew it's existence was flying with my best friend winter 2005 to LA, California from Rochester, NY...kinda ironic now that I'm typing this out. The first song my friend introduced me to on this album was "Since I've Been Lovin' You"...and I absolutely fell in love with that version. I felt that Plant's strained, "nasally voice", added to the emotion he gave that song. We had a blast that trip...up and down the west coast from Hermosa Beach to San Lois Obisbo driving Route 1, smoking & toking, listening to this album non-stop. You brought back a great memory and really helped me regain an appreciation for that special trip...especially now that I'm married with two young kids. Thank you.

Thank you so much for sharing this story with me. It's moments like these that remind me why I put so much time and passion into creating these videos. Your journey with Led Zeppelin-from that first introduction to "Since I've Been Loving You" on a road trip along the West Coast-is such a vivid and beautiful memory. It’s incredible how music, especially Zep's, can anchor us to a specific time and place, and even years later, those emotions come flooding back.
I love that you connected with the evolution of their sound, especially how I tried to highlight their growth with "No Quarter" MSG 1973. It's a special feeling when others pick up on those details. And I completely agree with you-Plant's raw, nasally tone in that era brings a kind of visceral, emotional weight to songs like "Since I've Been Loving You." It’s amazing how those nuances make the music feel so deeply personal.

@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Absolutely, however I am partial on the '72 tour, some of '73, and all of '75. '75 was such a powerhouse it is hard to beat. I think what occurred on the later half of the '77 US tour is something the band never fully recovered from. The Oakland incident and then the death of Robert Plant's child were all too much. To each their own though. Each era had its own identity and its own importance in legend of the Zep. One of a kind.

…same here, Jose. You KNOW the heights of my Zeppelin fandom - but some reason or another this cd set didn’t stick on me for long back in ‘03 when it dropped. Maybe I already knew too much about the band and this release was already old-hat for me personally. There some fine moments no doubt. Especially the WLL medley. Bonzo’s timing and blues drumming during the entire span of it, is something to behold. Without him keeping precious time, the entire thing would’ve been an absolute disaster. He was a great blues drummer and many need to be reminded of just that. I’m sure I’ll revisit this set again…but in the meantime I listen to the entire audience tape from 6-25-72 on LZBoots’ channel.

In Europe ‘73 when they break down into I Can’t Quit You, it’s so slow and contorted that it’s barely recognizable!…yet if you pay close attention and try to keep the time in your mind…you’ll realize that Bonzo is STILL one step ahead of you and just SO ON TOP of the groove. It’s really not an easy thing to do! Thank GOD for John Bonham!

Hey Paul! I think it's down to the set list you know? Between the ton of covers on Whoe Lotta Love's medley to the lack of No Quarter, maybe they feel it's not complete? Also, i think the media pushes Graffiti SO much, their early period is distorted from the casual fan perspective. Somehow people think a Zeppelin concert has Immigrant Song and Kashmir LOL. The version of "Whole Lotta Love" is pretty damn good on here, especially the theremin mixed with Bonham's frantic drumming. I also like the inclusion of "Going Down Slow" in the middle. Overall, these songs sound really raw and loud, not compressed and overly mixed.

Seattle on the 18th and 19th would have been the better shows to record for an eventual live album release. I agree with this sentiment stated by some fans as you mentioned. @@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I totally agree. It has been said their 3 favorite places to play were LA, NY and Seattle, with Seattle rivaling LA for the fun they had there. Seattle reminded them of home, with the climate and they loved the outdoors, fishing and the like. Plant often jokes on stage with the good fishing they had in Seattle at the early 70's shows. Of course he is referring and joking about July 27th 1969, Seattle Pop, staying at the Edgewater Inn and the famous mudshark incident, LOL. !! Listening to Plant and the band on the Seattle bootlegs is a real treat, funny stuff that often goes over the head of the crowds. He often refers back to Seattle Pop. I wish a bootleg of that surfaces someday. Would be a true holy Grail, the only time they played with The Doors at a concert or Pop Festival like that.

Interesting you say that about Plant's vocals. He's learning to sing with the band in a different way in 1972. Is Dancing Days on it aswell? That one works so well live.

Very cool. Great details and research. HTWWW is not my fave, despite some bad rep, TSRTS is. For the version of No Quarter alone, which I believe to be Pages finest solo ever "put on wax.". SIBLY (which should have been included upon initial release, is the definitive, if not "cobbled" together version, and the title cut and TRS are among LZ's finest moments. In my old age I cannot slog thru the 26 minute version of D&C any more...I can watch it, but listening?...ehhh not so much. I had a few boots from the HTWWW era, and I dunno...some of its too rushed and Plant, I mean lets face it, even for die hard fans his incessant screeching and caterwauling can be an endurance test. I am looking forward to the new documentary, tho I am sure it will offer no new insights, but I think they must be including the "Supershow" footage, which as of yet has never been officially sanctioned. I bought the CD the day it came out and was interviewed by Fox25 News Boston at the Newbury Comics Record Store in Braintree, MA as I was buying it and was asked if I would ever a counterfeit copy and I said no because I would rather spend the money on a professional pressed copy with silver CDS, real booklet not an MP3 rip with a print of the cover and back. I didn’t get the DVD until three days later and watched it as I recovered from a stomach virus.
The album debuted at Number One here in the United States and did sell 333,333 copies therefore it went Platinum (it was a 3 CD set and the set counted as three sold). It has its merits but I prefer The Song Remains the Same and long for Earls Court 1975 or Knebworth as an audio only release.

@ I learned from the RIAA that a double album over 90 minutes needed to sell one two record set to count as one double album sold.
Instead of 1,000,000 a double album needed to sell 500,000 double LPs and CDs to go Platinum.
A triple album only needs to sell 333,333 triple albums or 3 CD set to sell Platinum in the States
Four disc sets 250,000 copies need to sell for Platinum certification.
To be fair How the West Was Won outsold Rush In Rio which was also a 3 CD set and that sold 166,666 copies so it got certified Gold in the States. Robbie Williams (not the former Pink Floyd Tour Production Manager but the UK equivalent of Justin Timberlake) was mercifully not as successful in the States but we had to contend with Robbie’s US counterpart Justin and the female teen idols at the time Britney (who is now on her way to being another drug casualty), Christina (who got her act together and is a hands on mother raising her son from first marriage and daughter from current marriage) and Beyoncé (who is now a juggernaut).
At least Bat Out of Hell got trounced in the States by Rumours, Saturday Night Fever and the first Boston album sales wise. The best album Meatloaf ever sang on was the best Ted Nugent album 1976’s Free For All. In fact his first US show he opened up for Cheap Trick and the Cheap Trick fans not only booed but flipped him off, threw beer bottles and were spitting on him.

I’ve always been bothered by the complete removal of stage banter and plantations for this album. If you didn’t know better, you would think Zeppelin preferred to play songs back-to-back-to-back, without pausing, like The Ramones.
I need to hear Plant interacting with the audience, and being able to catch my breath between songs. It just flows so much better to my ears, especially because I have the originally released “volume wars” pressing.
I mean, they seemed to cut out anything that happened between the songs, and it’s just too noticeable.

Hey JCM! Not sure if you've addressed it already, but what happened to the Band Of Gypsys video you made a few months ago? Watched about half of it, and when I went to finish it I noticed the wasn't up anymore.

Hey Willard thanks for your question. Sp i got a strange copyright strike (i suspect why...) so they made me take it down and i decided to host it on my Patreon site along other Patreon exclusive videos :)

Your production level has increased but your vocal recordings are uncannily consistent lol.
I'm a die hard fan but for some odd reason this live album has never resonated well with me. I still rate TSRTS and BBC Sessions ahead of this and would rather listen to the Burn Like A Candle boot for 72.

Uncannily consistent haha, hope that's good. The only voice i have man :) Thank you!!! When i analyze the bootleg, i think the final answers will be given as to why this album had so much potential but...suffered from modern production sins!

Correction. Best selling album of 1972 was Neil Young's Harvest. NOT AC School's Out.

woulld like a box set of MSG 73.... and box of Earls 75

A box set of Earl's Court 1975 would be better because MSG 1973 has some conflict of rights with Warner Bros in terms of sound bits FROM the movie! They should call the Earl's Court Set...maybe....Physical BOXETTI? Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for Episode 2!

I have the version from 2003, is it worth getting the remastered 2018?

I waited long to get it. The downside of buying the 2018 version is that even for a Zepp completist, you will want to sell your 2003 copy hehe. Sometimes i have to stop myself from listing it online :)

The 2003 release was really hard to listen to, awful mastering!! Plus I wasn't fond of Roberts vocals at times, some of the songs were rushed, but of course there were many moments of glory, like the Crunge section in Dazed and Confused, I liked many of the jams in Whole Lotta Love, Immigrant song is insanely good......
Because I love Zeppelin so much it was a time capsule that I couldn't get enough of despite the short commings, which, to be honest were few......The remastered was something I very much appreciated, finally able to enjoy the album without the listening fatigue you get from the 2003 version...

I am with you Kev. The 2003 release was always hard. I mean it sounded like Metallica St. Anger in places DAMN. Moby Dick that 19 minute version, i used to walk to work listening to it! Thanks for watching, stay tuned for Episode 2!

BBC (absolutely fabulous) sessions recorded off radio onto cassette 69' & 71', should have both been released in the 70's or early 80's... but then JP wouldn't have made as much money & if would have exposed TSRTS [apart from No Quarter]. Plants vocals had deteriorated (from 71) & so had Page's playing.
