I think Del should be the canon choice, as much as I love Del, You can't do that to Marcus. First it was Dom, then his Dad, and then Anya. Don't take away his only son.

Kait and Del's bond is like that of Marcus and Dom to a lesser level. Given the choice i saved Del for this reason I began to like him a lot and drifted from JD. But in that same vein JD was beginning to right his wrongs and Marcus has lost fucking everything meaningful to him his dad, wife, Dom, Tai, and now possibly his fucking son. It leaves u in a tug of war from ur heart on who to choose. This game was excellent and really struck a chord within me. Absolutely amazing storytelling and development of characters.
My beef with the cutscenes besides only being an hour an 24 mins long is that it seems like kait being the granddaughter of myyrah is just glossed over and somehow the swarm have a monster as big if not bigger then the worm from gears 2
I dunno, mostly I was fine with cutscene lengths, but maybe a bit more at the end would have been nice. And yeah maybe a hit in the middle or somewhere thelat really touched on her being Myrrahs grand daughter though. I wouldn't say the game glosses it over, but I was curious for them to go into more depth than they did.

It's also annoying when game series like gears become self-aware that they have strong emotional moments, then try continuing the series and acting like they are super deep stories. So they actually decided to use the same general backstory as Alien Covenant did huh. Well just like Alien Covenant it's exceedingly disappointing, makes the Locust far less interesting, is hard to even believe, and creates tons of plot holes. Here are just some of the plot holes that this origin creates: 1. This origin of the locust actually only explains the origin of the Drones and Berserkers, but does nothing to explain all of the other Locust species. How exactly do the Boomers, Kantus, Ragers, and Wretches fit into the picture? Where did they come from? 2. How is it that in less than a century, the small number of Locust that fled into the Hollows were able to develop their own society, religion, language, writing system, architectural style, and naming system? 3. How did the Locust build such numerous and massive structures in such a short amount of time? 4. Why are so many of the structures in the Hollow seemingly ancient despite being only decades old? 5. How did the Locust reproduce to large enough numbers to be considered a horde in such a small length of time and how did their rapid expansion in numbers not decimate the populations of native creatures in the Hollow? 6. How did the Locust manage to not only tame, but full on domesticate most of the creatures of the Hollow in such a short amount of time, and how did they already create battle tactics with them if they had been so recently domesticated? 7. COG scientists have said that Brumaks were actually bred from apes by the Locust. If this is true then how did the Locust manage to do this in less than a century? Such a massive change would have taken millennia. 8. How did the Locust manage to build so many of their own weapons and technology if they started out with nothing and had less than a century to figure everything out? We know that they reverse engineered many human technologies, but how did they do this so quickly and what did they use to do it and with what prior knowledge were they able to do it? 9. Why are the Locust so well adapted to living underground if they are not truly subterranean in nature and they didn't stay there long enough to adapt to the hollow? 10. Why do the Locust use the term "Ground Walkers" as if they are native to the Hollow? This kind of slur would only exist if the Locust were truly native to the Hollow. 11. If Myrrah had an immunity to imulsion and passed down here immunity and abilities to her children, then why are the Locust more vulnerable to the Lambent than Humans, shouldn't they be less vulnerable if not immune considering the fact that they were made from Myrrah's stem cells? 12. Why did Myrrah begin to hate all of humanity just because she thought her child had been killed? Did she forget that both she and her child were human? 13. Why did Myrrah give Adam Fenix a time span to cure Lambancy before invading if she hated humanity anyway and wanted to kill them regardless of the Lambent? Why does Adam Fenix himself seem so convinced that she would have kept her word? 14. It is stated by Niles that Myrrah led her "children" to rebel and kill the scientists that made her and them, which implies that despite being aggressive that the Locust did not want to kill humans immediately for no reason and needed to have Myrrah tell them to. Adam Fenix seemed to believe this aswell. This is contradicted in Gears 5 when the Drones that are released on Kait immediately begin to attack her despite not receiving any orders to do so. And before anybody says it, yes, i'm aware that this origin has been hinted at before, but they were generally pretty vague hints that were open to different interpretations, and even so it doesn't make this origin any better or not filled with plot holes.
biggest thing that bothers me (other then i hate the swarm concept) is that clayton carmine doesnt sound like himself, seeing paduk was great tho, and baird is my favortie character, especially after reading the books.....................we didnt even see sam this entire game tho

I get severing the connection to the hive network but would it be more logical sever the network into two so that Kait can control Locusts without Myrrah's interference. Niles called them perfect soldiers with the ability to produce more and the COG needs soldiers. Best way to deprive an enemy of resources and soldiers is to make them your own. That's my opinion but if anyone would like to comment and let me know their thoughts on this, please do. Edit: Also did they sever the connection because I don't think she did. All she did was dance with a berserker and find her possessed mother within the network.
While I think any choice would end sadly, I do think story-wise Del should be cannon, with Del's death the cycle of war starts over again. Much like Marcus losing Dom, now JD lost Del, and I think the 6th could focus on ending the war permanently, don't know about peace but something needs to change. We loved Del, and I think his death has more meaning, while JD was absent and tries to do a redemption arc, if there is a 6th, JD would need to be better. He would have to think outside of the box and try and make Del's death mean something, and it would push him to try and redeem himself even more. If JD dies and Del lives then that would not change much, he doesn't really need to better himself, he was good the way he was, and you could say he might make bad choices because of JD's death it would seem a little forced. Also, it seems after seeing both, JD's death may have fractured the group a little, while Del's brought them closer, out of all the character Marcus knows exactly how JD is feeling, and if JD dies, no character could understand the pain Marcus is going through, maybe Kait but she did not try anything and Del trying to help Marcus is shrugged off.

The Riftworm was about 10 miles long.....This new monster is way smaller.

11. If Myrrah had an immunity to imulsion and passed down here immunity and abilities to her children, then why are the Locust more vulnerable to the Lambent than Humans, shouldn't they be less vulnerable if not immune considering the fact that they were made from Myrrah's stem cells?
12. Why did Myrrah begin to hate all of humanity just because she thought her child had been killed? Did she forget that both she and her child were human?
13. Why did Myrrah give Adam Fenix a time span to cure Lambancy before invading if she hated humanity anyway and wanted to kill them regardless of the Lambent? Why does Adam Fenix himself seem so convinced that she would have kept her word?
14. It is stated by Niles that Myrrah led her "children" to rebel and kill the scientists that made her and them, which implies that despite being aggressive that the Locust did not want to kill humans immediately for no reason and needed to have Myrrah tell them to. Adam Fenix seemed to believe this aswell. This is contradicted in Gears 5 when the Drones that are released on Kait immediately begin to attack her despite not receiving any orders to do so.
And before anybody says it, yes, i'm aware that this origin has been hinted at before, but they were generally pretty vague hints that were open to different interpretations, and even so it doesn't make this origin any better or not filled with plot holes.

I get severing the connection to the hive network but would it be more logical sever the network into two so that Kait can control Locusts without Myrrah's interference. Niles called them perfect soldiers with the ability to produce more and the COG needs soldiers. Best way to deprive an enemy of resources and soldiers is to make them your own. That's my opinion but if anyone would like to comment and let me know their thoughts on this, please do.
Edit: Also did they sever the connection because I don't think she did. All she did was dance with a berserker and find her possessed mother within the network.

While I think any choice would end sadly, I do think story-wise Del should be cannon, with Del's death the cycle of war starts over again. Much like Marcus losing Dom, now JD lost Del, and I think the 6th could focus on ending the war permanently, don't know about peace but something needs to change. We loved Del, and I think his death has more meaning, while JD was absent and tries to do a redemption arc, if there is a 6th, JD would need to be better. He would have to think outside of the box and try and make Del's death mean something, and it would push him to try and redeem himself even more. If JD dies and Del lives then that would not change much, he doesn't really need to better himself, he was good the way he was, and you could say he might make bad choices because of JD's death it would seem a little forced. Also, it seems after seeing both, JD's death may have fractured the group a little, while Del's brought them closer, out of all the character Marcus knows exactly how JD is feeling, and if JD dies, no character could understand the pain Marcus is going through, maybe Kait but she did not try anything and Del trying to help Marcus is shrugged off.
