  • M81 (Bode's Galaxy) is a popular target and is relatively easy to image and process. This video show the basic processes in PixInsight and Photoshop to process the color image. It also includes details showing how to add additional Ha detail from a dual-narrowband filter.

Please. No apologies for the length of the session. For an absolute beginner like myself, trying to get a handle on the art of astrophotography, this has been exactly what I need to give me context and hope. I love learning and understanding what I need to do. Short cuts and speed without the why is for Boeing. Thank you for your efforts

just a quick note craig, on your timeline about 24:08, you open up the gaia tool in all processes and there you use the wrench to point to where the correct dr3/sp files are found. so far very informative video. i am waiting for the PS part of this, looking for the help to finish the Xmas Nebula.

great lesson craig, in my opinion and i am a beginner, pixinsight is easier to learn than PS.

You subtracted the entire rgb image. I thought you needed to subtract the red channel only.

Yes. In this case the Layer Group has only the red channel active so that's all that you see in the result.
