The intro is so well done, they’re not zombies, just people walking through their day feeling & acting like it. How often do you feel like you’re just mindlessly going through your day feeling like you’re zombied out.

Great acting, great characters that are developed and grow and change in realistic ways in surreal situations, what a masterpiece!

This movie is so dense, with layer upon layer of reference, plot and gags, that it is really easy to miss upon first watch. There are lots of line and joke call-backs, like the video game Ed plays at the beginning mirrors Shawn shooting Zombies at the bar later. It's definitely worth owning on DVD or Blu-ray, because there are fact tracks that point them all out. Your reaction to this was fantastic, and I really enjoyed it.

I feel like Cornetto trilogy hits differently at different ages. Shaun of the Dead is great if you're in your 20s, when you are at that age where you're an adult but you're not sure what to make of your life yet. Hot Fuzz is about being in your 30s, where you made your choices but you are wondering if you missed out on anything. The World's End is when you're in your 40s, when you are set on your path and you wonder if your best days are behind you.

  • @MarcoMM1

Great reaction Ames like always, love this movie! The plan that Ed comes up with at the Winchester after Shaun gets dumped by Liz is actually a beat-for-beat summary of all the events that will go down the following day: "Have a Bloody Mary's first thing (the first zombie they encounter is named Mary), a bite at the King's Head (Phillip gets bitten in the neck), couple at the Little Princess (Liz is the princess, David and Di are the couple), stagger back here (they pretend to be zombies); bang! Back at the bar for shots (the big shootout in the third act). Watching Edgar Wright's films multiple times is pretty much a necessity due to the sheer amount of foreshadowing and hidden hints he hides in the script.
And the movie never actually reveals the cause of the zombie outbreak. Just as the news reporter is about to say it at the end, Shaun changes the channel, thus leaving it a mystery to the audience. And another fun-fact: Zombie godfather himself George A. Romero loved the film so much that gave Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright cameos as zombies in his 2005 film Land of the Dead.
Shaun of the Dead remains the first of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s “Cornetto Trilogy”. This was based on Cornetto ice cream, which came in three flavors or colors: red, blue, and green. Shaun of the Dead represents red (blood), Hot Fuzz represents blue (police), and The World’s End represents green (aliens). Keep up the good work.

He hated his stepdad for marrying his mom, because it was like proving forever that Dad would never return. Sean's stepfather was a good man who tried his best to do well by Sean and his mother. This, right here, hits at the horror in the roots of zombie/zombi stories that part of the fear was the idea of eternal slavery without even the promise of rest in death - kind of amazing that it crept in as part of a gag montage in the epilogue, and the fact that the "mobile deceased" employment/enslavement industry subtly mirrors the way people hand-wave being complicit in systems of oppression on the basis that they didn't set up those systems personally ("Hey, we didn't cause the zombie outbreak" "Hey I've never enslaved anyone")...pretty great satire, intended or not

I see you have a Star Wars Return of the Jedi poster in the background. I met Warwick Davis last weekend in Nashville TN at a Star Wars convention. He was so kind and very funny person. I met Dermot Crowley who plays General Madine in RTOTJ. I was his first person to meet. He said I have a gift for you. He handed me an original script page of Revenge of The Jedi. I was in shock. He was such a cool person. I met other Star Wars actors but it be too much to type who else was there

Warwick Davis occasionally shows up in our town, visiting friends.
I saw him in the supermarket once and every single time I saw him, he was talking to someone, customer or staff.
It must have taken him ages to get round and do his bit of shopping, but he never fobbed anyone off; everyone who wanted to chat got some of his time.
      Class act.

This was my go to for the year of a movie. The jingle those 2 were doing was just histarical, with the zombie apocalypse. Those 2 were as good as Abbot & Costello, or Chris Tucker & Jackie Chan combo... Another is Hugh Jackman & Ryan Reynolds... Combos like this in Sean of the dead are just amazing...

There are so many hidden easter eggs all throughout this movie. Im sure someone has gone over how Ed breaks down the entire story in the bar (Mary, bite at king's head, couple at princesses, etc) but there is so much more. at 26:51 When you say "That guy!" That is "Snake Hips" as described by Ed earlier. "Always surrounded by women". Amd of course When you see him again he's surrounded by women...zombies. mostly at his hips. The video game at the beginning of the movie is a zombie shoot em up game and the dialogue used by Ed and Sean is repeated verbatim when they are in the bar shooting actual zombies, complete with same rifle movements they used in the game earlier. I could go on and on with more details but you get the idea. Doing a deep dive into this movie is very fun and interesting to see all the little intricacies

The Cornetto Trilogy spawned from a British TV show called Spaced which was written by and starred Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes (who played Yvonne), and was directed by Edgar Wright, Nick Frost who played Ed was also a main character. The show was a trippy, surreal sitcom about two unlikely friends and flat mates who would get themselves in to odd situations that always ended ina homage to Hollywood movies. Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End aka "The Cornetto Trilogy" are a sort of spinoff from that show made by, and starring, the same folks.

I’ve been on this hunt on Amazon Prime for new movies I haven’t seen, which is quite the list I’m finding. There is in fact a rather noticeable amount of lower budget, more indie, ones that seem to be trying to go that way. What I’ve realized while digging is that Hollywood marketing really sort of sucks now, the fact that I, and so many of my friends, have never heard of 75% of them I’ll offer as some proof of that. I don’t watch broadcast TV, don’t have any streaming subscriptions, (other than Prime, cause, Fire Stick) and don’t hang out on social media (except for YT).
They can’t complain about an audience not watching when nobody knows they exist. What I don’t get is why Hollywood doesn’t leverage YT reactors, there are many that have huge followings, seems like an absolutely wasted marketing channel. And not only do they not leverage it, they actively try to put them down and copyright strike them.

4:07 First nice insert, Ash being the hero in The Evil Dead.
Apparently Ed's dealer is actually Shaun's mouthy colleague but they never actually reference it
43:21 She's Simon Pegg's flatmate in Spaced, the comedy series where they originally had the idea for this movie (from one of the episodes), definitely recommended watch, Edgar Wright directed that too.
You should definitely watch the other two in the Cornetto Trilogy, Hot Fuzz and World's End (so called because they have a Cornetto ice cream, different flavours, in each movie)
