damn yeah having it be a solo story around the time after s4 where the doctor is at his worse emotionally would have made this great ep hit even harder
The girl in the fireplace has always given me weird vibes because of the romantic tension between the doctor and madame de pompadour after he saw her as a little girl, and I found it to be part of a larger theme of Moffat using the doctor to act out fantasies of his own. I also felt it somewhat cheapened his and Rose’s relationship. I really wish that romance hadn’t been included because I would’ve loved it otherwise.

@jaystev oh cool, I heard from someone who worked in the script department but they could have been lying! In small doses he was a brilliant writer, the stories make sense, same with sherlock. But the later series were such a contrast and I didn't really like it at all. And the loss of character development/realistic families etc that russell does so well. I'm very interested to see what the new series is like and if I enjoy it again like I did s1-4. Even now I'm older I can still rewatch the older ones and enjoy them, and I liked the 60th specials. My disappointment when I realised that you only recently uploaded this video, and now I have to actually wait for the part 2 and 3, was immense. 10/10 tierlist. Suprised you didn't mention the amazing line: "I would be proud... if you were my dad" to Wilf
I agree. Midnight and Blink are perfect. Midnight freaks me out every time even though I know how it ends. Donna: Monto Bene! Doctor: No. Don't do that. Don't... don't... Don't. That performance from David is 10/10. The Doctor being scared is unnerving. Of all the things he has seen, he is usually so intrigued and interested. His interest becoming his nightmare is absolutely chilling.
I would personally have Dalek and Empty Child/Doctor Dances in the top tier ... Those 3 episodes were when everybody sat up and took notice of Nu Who. They proved that the show was capable of genuine greatness, and we all became incredibly excited about the possibilities moving forward ... They were the foundations that RTD built upon for his entire first run.
Loved this vid but only really disagree with “Gridlock”- sure it’s a 40-something minute traffic jam but the reveal as to _why_ everyone was stuck on the road? The fact that they were all there for _years_ and had literally no hope of getting out, the reveal that there were actually no police or ambulances or support whatsoever, the virus stemming from the mutated mood drug? That shit gets me every damn time. Also the Lazarus experiment!! Is about the value of life!! And how it is in no way dependent or proportional to how long it is!!
The whole sequence in Forrest of the Dead from when Donna enters the park to the scene in her kids room disturbed me so much as a kid that I didn't rewatch it until sometime last year and it still had my heart beating all throughout it. The way it all builds until she rips the veil off (I know the cgi isn't great but child me was very convinced) and reveals the messed up face and then the horror in her reaction when her children disappear. I watched films like Hereditary and Martyrs before I could bring myself to rewatch that episode.
mentioned around 51:00 , in Blink, I think Sally took a lot of notes about her trip to the house and at the end of the episode, she gave her folder to The Doctor. Hence how the doctor knew what would happen.
Gridlock is one of my personal favourites haha. I also enjoy lazarus experiment which I know that one is more disliked haha. But it’s always intriguing too hear others views. Martha and Donna got the best episodes in my opinion lol. Massive Donna fan
You know an episode is good if it makes you cry just by seeing it's screenshots. The end of time pt2 literally BROKE me I cry like a toddler every time. I didn't have DrWHO on TV as a child so I only recently, as an adult decided to watch it and my god I will never forget this series. Even showed midnight and blink to friends who don't watch DW and they still really enyoed it.
Great video. I pretty much agree with your evaluations and playing this in the background is strangely comforting. Really looking forward to the Moffat review. Thanks for doing this.
Incredible video, made me realise the parallel I had with my matt smith experience, crying every time he goes and insisting I wouldn't enjoy Capaldi cause 'he was just some random old guy' but coming to appreciate his tenure and being able to go back and experience Ecclestone and Tennant for the first time while still having season 5 as my personal favourite of my childhood. Elite singing of the doomsday theme, I need this for all upcoming themes for smith
the ending of RTD era was one gut punch after another. Episode to episode things seemed to turn out alright, but slowly more and more things just started to go wrong for the doctor and you realize it is a tragedy. In order to clear the way for a new doctor to have new adventures, everyone the doctor knew had to die or move on without him and he could not keep any of them in his life, and then, at the very end, when you think he has said goodbye to everyone and it's okay that 10 wasn't happy because none of the doctors really are, in the end they are just the vehicle for the next doctor, but right before everything turns out alright, right before 11 takes over and makes all of 10's suffering pointless, he says the one line that leaves it lingering, makes it impossible to forget that he has unfinished business and everything is not alright.
So good to see a vid like this from someone who grew up with doctor who at the same age as me, gen alpha wouldn't understand how beautifully 2000s this all is
Christopher Eccleston is my favorite doctor of all time. My first Doctor was Jon Pertwee who was great but Eccleston brought me back to the series and he was fantastic :D I see the appeal of Tom Baker and especially Capaldi and Tennant + Smith have a special place in my heart. But Eccleston brought so much nuance to the character and I thought was perfect with only one series! Love this show, I hope they improve the show's writing moving forward though. We want good stories with loveable characters.
russel t davies is defo my fave doctor who writer bcs he’s so good at writing people and that’s one of my favourite aspects of the series :) i appreciate moffat’s early work (the empty child is one of my fave episodes ever) but i loved russell t davies style when i was a child watching doctor who for the first time and i still love him now lol :)
The moment when they’re all flying the Earth back makes me absolutely sob, even more than Donna having her mind wiped. The music, the shots of them all working together, the fact you know it’s the last moment of them all being happy together. It genuinely breaks me
I'm not usually a fan of tierlists, but this is tempting me to make one of these myself. It's not until you see something like this on a tierlist that makes you really WANT to evaluate your opinions :D
36:46 i need you to cover all of the best music from doctor who, this was incredible! Effort like that really takes what could of been a good tier list video into a OH GOD YES tier video
Like I wish the Doctor didn't give his clone to Rose (Like just avoided that story arch in general) and the ending for 14, instead of living with Donna, would be 15 giving his gift to 14, which is getting back to Rose to spend his days. I know, I know its been a while and a couple of regenerations since Rose but the Doctor seeing that ol familiar face HAD to bring back some memories and would've been a great finale for 14. The Real Doctor never ending up with Rose really bothered me when I first watched, even if he gave up his clone its just not the same so idk.
Interesting list! RTD's stuff is a bit soapy and shouty for my tastes, but I can't deny that his energy keeps a lot of people entertained and he was the perfect choice to launch New Who (as was Eccleston).
"Rose is an amazing companion" *Doomsday acapella* "The doctor commits a genocide but it's okay he's mourning " "*Martha being horny on main* 10: Rose would know what to do" "Gets turned into a police officer " I literally forgot Rose appears in the end of partners in crime and was flabbergasted once again This is my favorite doctor who review of all time made me forgive you for not putting Dalek and Turn Left in *Perfect*
Fun little detail: In the end of time pt2, it’s ‘The Doctor’s Mother’ that gives him the idea to shoot the White point Star. The close up of her just before he tells the Master to get out of the way, her eyes shift from the Doctor/Master/Rassilon stand-off and go to the link
I think this is the first video of yours I've watched but I just wanted to say I love your narration and formatting its super engaging and great pacing
Loved watching this, thanks so much for pulling everything together! Mostly agree with you but we'll have to agree to disagree on the 2nd half of Series 3 - in my opinion the 6 episodes from "Human Nature" to "Last of the Time Lords" were the very best of the RTD era and some of the finest episodes of all time. Best of luck with the channel!
I really like Love and Monsters. It feels real to how I’d be if I’d met the doctor and wanted to find him again. The main plot is just alright but the way the depict fans of the doctor feels very real
Thank you for this video so much. This show is so unimaginably important to me and seeing this beautiful tier list really made me day. Only things I disagreed without I think were gridlock, and fotd/sitl. I think they are both very good. And also I would put turn left in perfect. There is honestly no flaws without, and if it weren't for blink it'd hands down be the best doctor lite episode, like u said the scene of wilf talking about the war is heart WRENCHING
I think the only reason I didn't put it in perfect is because it's not one I would actively think to go back and watch but i do agree it is a perfect Doctor lite episode
I’ve seen every episode of this era like 20 times but I’ve only been able to bear watching the end of time episodes maybe twice. Like it’s genuine heartbreak. I was fully crying just from watching the clips in this video.
I’m only up to the Aliens in London part, and I had to pause to comment that I think Annette Badland (Margaret) is one of the greatest character actresses the UK has ever produced. I met her at a small indie press awards ceremony in 2015 (she was there to support a friend who was nominated). When I recognised her, her friend said “you must be an Eastenders fan!” I said I hadn’t watched Eastenders in years, and before I could say what show I knew her from, Annette interrupted me and said “can I guess? I bet you’re going to say Happy Families!” And she was right! I knew her from loads of shows and films, but Happy Families stuck in my head the most. It was a show on CBBC in the early 90s and was based on a series of books. She played various characters, but I always remembered her as Mrs Wobble the Waitress. She told me that no matter how many different roles she plays (and she’s played hundreds!), millennials will always either remember her from Happy Families or Doctor Who, even though she was only in a couple of episodes, and that she loves that she was a part of so many people’s childhoods. Edited to add I just saw Mickey’s grandma and that reminded me that Mona Hammond is one of my other all-time favourite British character actresses.
@@DannyTDWWhen I saw her in Doctor Who, I got excited because I recognised her from so many other shows. She was one of those actresses who you’d see pop up on pretty much everything but nobody seemed to know her name, we all just knew her face. I was lucky that everyone was wearing name tags at the event I met her at 😂. She was very sweet. We chatted for a while. It turned out we’re both from Birmingham so she asked where I lived and she told me about where she grew up and how much things had changed the last time she visited. She was so lovely and fascinating to talk to. I got a really nice photo with her too.
i would honestly put gridlock in the okay category it had its funny moments but the doctor talking about gallifrey makes it a tier higher for me because of how beautiful that scene was. Your list was awesome tho u got entertaining commentary.
41:21 the first mention of Harold Saxon was actually in Love and Monsters, in the newspaper the Abzorbaloff was reading before revealing himself. You can see it in your vid at 33:26. Very big brain of RTD. Great video, though, I love your humour.
Love your energy and the effort put into editing clips in! Seen far too many DW tier lists where the persons just drones on continuously, but your delivery is super engaging (and your tastes are well reasoned!)
This era of television was just amazing. I was just a little kid forcing my family to watch it with me, and it still today influences my music and art. It wasn't flawless, and there are some aspects that didn't really fit, but overall Murray Gold and Russel T Davies are two of the best people who have ever touched Sci-Fi. Also it really made me realise that all my childhood crushes were 100% justified, just saying.
at 50:49, I'm sure to justify this scene here Sally Sparrow might've put in the transcript folder thing she gave to the Doctor at the end all or a few of her experiences with Wester Drumlins and the Angels. Meaning she may have put in that when she ripped the wallpaper and saw Duck! there a rock came flying at her from nowhere.
The "i dont want to go" broke me when i first watched it. David is just such a great Doctor, and you rly feel that he doesnt want to "die". Also yea Wilfred goat of the goats, this man made me cry so much and i want to hug him every time he plays an emotionally part.
21:33 my personal belief is that each are filled with max amount of sicknesses wich means they dont all have the same amount or same ones which also explains why there are so many of them.

My favorite episodes of the new show are (in order of favoritism): - Doomsday (Simply because of the ending. It's the most heart-wrenching companion sendoff in the history of the show. Nothing will top it.) - Human Nature / Family of Blood (probably the best episode of the show) - Midnight - The Waters of Mars - The End of Time ("I don't want to go") - Dalek - The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances (terrified me for months as a kid) - Stolen Earth / Journey's End - Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead - Aliens of London / World War Three - The Impossible Planet / Satan Pit - The God Complex (great, creepy episode but the ending was poor) Nothing from Capaldi's era nor from Chibnal/Whittaker's era. Capaldi is a great actor, but I hated the scripts. Chibnal was an atrocious writer and the actors didn't help matters.
Great video dude! You hit so many nails on their heads in this,RTD cheese just hits different and he was able to pull it off in ways no one else really could,if you haven't read it already i highly recommend "the writer's tale" book, gives some great insight into his "Who" era
i feel like aliens of london two-parter is the cult classic of the rtd era, the prequel star wars movies if u will. its goofy, its stupid, but it contains a lot of important aspects. and even if narratively theyre not great, theyre a blast to watch

Great video. I pretty much agree with your evaluations and playing this in the background is strangely comforting. Really looking forward to the Moffat review. Thanks for doing this.
That's exactly what I was going for, Thank you! :D
The stuff Moffat actually wrote was great.
I'm pretty sure the way RTD ended things made it hard on Moffat, which is why he mocked the line in "Day of the doctor"
“Moffat writing with one hand again?” Was hilarious 😂
What a funny, and suprisingly heartfelt tier-list! You've reminded me why I loved (and still do) the RTD era of WHO. Subscribed!
haha thank you so much! :D
This is literally exactly what I was looking for like a month ago and I couldn't find anything like it but this is perfect
"toppy sloppy chromedome from that paving slab throatgoat" is my "cellar door"
The moment when they’re all flying the Earth back makes me absolutely sob, even more than Donna having her mind wiped. The music, the shots of them all working together, the fact you know it’s the last moment of them all being happy together. It genuinely breaks me
Agreed!!! 🥲
I'm not usually a fan of tierlists, but this is tempting me to make one of these myself.
It's not until you see something like this on a tierlist that makes you really WANT to evaluate your opinions :D
36:46 i need you to cover all of the best music from doctor who, this was incredible! Effort like that really takes what could of been a good tier list video into a OH GOD YES tier video
hahaha Thank you so much! Love this thank you for the feedback! :D
I agree Eccleston was fantastic. Too bad what happened.. More shocking was to receive the news when the series just started!
This was so enjoyable to watch!!! I’d definitely watch your review of moffat’s eras-especially 11’s run!!!
Interesting list! RTD's stuff is a bit soapy and shouty for my tastes, but I can't deny that his energy keeps a lot of people entertained and he was the perfect choice to launch New Who (as was Eccleston).
I can already tell this tierlist series is gonna be a BANGER
"Rose is an amazing companion"
*Doomsday acapella*
"The doctor commits a genocide but it's okay he's mourning "
"*Martha being horny on main*
10: Rose would know what to do"
"Gets turned into a police officer "
I literally forgot Rose appears in the end of partners in crime and was flabbergasted once again
This is my favorite doctor who review of all time made me forgive you for not putting Dalek and Turn Left in *Perfect*
I go with the time lord reproduce by genetic looms, and choose to think that woman was Romana
i love the bit where the dalek says 'brethrin' and you fall in to london road slang
its very rare i laugh out loud when watching anything but this got me
Clicked just to see where would be my favourite episode of the whole series (midnight). Good job.
"Tell me your name" "pedophile" that killed me lmao.
This is the funniest thing ever, I actually watched the whole thing through. You should do one for the Moffat era
I'm Working on it now! :D
I think this is the first video of yours I've watched but I just wanted to say I love your narration and formatting its super engaging and great pacing
Thank you! Really appreciate the feedback!
Great video! Can't wait for Moffat era tier list!
This is one of the best videos I have seen on RUclips - super underrated and I hope it does really well!
Aw thank you very much!! 😊
Chris Ecceleston was such an amazing Doctor. Wish we had more of him.
the acapela was top tier
Ahaha thank you, I enjoyed making it. Definitely more to come :D
I really like Love and Monsters. It feels real to how I’d be if I’d met the doctor and wanted to find him again. The main plot is just alright but the way the depict fans of the doctor feels very real
One of my fave deffo really understated
"mainly because I'm fatherless" lmao mood
Just watching this continuously on repeat now … absolutely love it, but please fast forward the next one!!!
Which is fotd?
@@otps8035 forest of the dead. And the slash was with silence in the library
Great video, it's always nice when RUclips throws a smaller video onto my home page that is actually good quality.
Ahh thank you! That means a lot
I’ve seen every episode of this era like 20 times but I’ve only been able to bear watching the end of time episodes maybe twice. Like it’s genuine heartbreak. I was fully crying just from watching the clips in this video.
Brought my to tears, this era of Dr who was my childhood thanks for this video!
Aliens of London on par with Dalek and The Empty Child is wild.
This was amazing and hilarious! Thank you!! Looking forward to the next one 😊
I honestly agree with all of your takes!! This show practically raised me, glad to see someone share the nostalgia
i just decided to rewatch the whole modern era, so this video came just in time! can't wait for the next parts 💗
Thank you!! 😃
I watch DW tier lists to chill out. Yours is great fun! Looking forward to the next.
The Doctor Dances: 'This episode is a 10 out of 10."
Puts it in 'Great'...
I love that story! I will always remember her from Doctor Who! :D
That is the true highlight of that episode, thank you for the feedback :)
I think Gridlock is great satirical Science-Fiction. But to each their own I guess.
Appreciate the effort put into this. You are a funny man. Great video. Subbed
That means alot! Thank you! :D
41:21 the first mention of Harold Saxon was actually in Love and Monsters, in the newspaper the Abzorbaloff was reading before revealing himself. You can see it in your vid at 33:26. Very big brain of RTD.
Great video, though, I love your humour.
wow never noticed that! Thanks for pointing that out! :D
36:47
this is not war, this is cyber-bullying
Love your energy and the effort put into editing clips in! Seen far too many DW tier lists where the persons just drones on continuously, but your delivery is super engaging (and your tastes are well reasoned!)
Much appreciated! Thank you
It's a real testament to the soundtrack that, even with that a capella butchery, it's still heart wrenching
I can't believe I cried again, during your funny rendition of the doomsday theme that episode always gets me.
48:06 truly an emotional rendition of David tenants performs
“the daleks are back, what a shocking revelation😐” doctor who in a nutshell
This was so entertaining oh my god, it was like me watching the entire series all over again
haha appreciate the feedback! :D
It makes me wanna watch from 2005 again for the christmas doctor who!
I cackled when you turned the Dalek emperor into a roadman
at 50:49, I'm sure to justify this scene here Sally Sparrow might've put in the transcript folder thing she gave to the Doctor at the end all or a few of her experiences with Wester Drumlins and the Angels. Meaning she may have put in that when she ripped the wallpaper and saw Duck! there a rock came flying at her from nowhere.
I'm only about 4 minutes in so far but i have to say i love your sense of humour and i already know the rest of this video will slap.
I hope it fulfils your expectations :D
@@DannyTDW It was, genuinely hilarious the bit with the Pyrovile's name made me nearly choke 😆
The "i dont want to go" broke me when i first watched it. David is just such a great Doctor, and you rly feel that he doesnt want to "die". Also yea Wilfred goat of the goats, this man made me cry so much and i want to hug him every time he plays an emotionally part.
21:33 my personal belief is that each are filled with max amount of sicknesses wich means they dont all have the same amount or same ones which also explains why there are so many of them.
geat video man really simple editing but still a fun watch.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it

That's so crazy to think about
Loved this, cannot wait for your tier lists of the next eras!
Coming Soon! :D
ive been rewatching modern who and ive just finished the end of time part 2, and that episode still hurts to watch. i still cry like a toddler every time.
The Friday night dinner reference earned you a sub bruv
haha thank you! :D
56:55 that comment at the bottom is so real lmao. Also the commentary this whole video is *chef's kiss*.
1:01:31 : "it's not got much rewatch value"
me, having watched the fires of pompeii 50 plus times and done a report on it: 👀 okay
(no but I actually really enjoyed this! and agreed most of the time lol)
My favorite episodes of the new show are (in order of favoritism):
- Doomsday (Simply because of the ending. It's the most heart-wrenching companion sendoff in the history of the show. Nothing will top it.)
- Human Nature / Family of Blood (probably the best episode of the show)
- Midnight
- The Waters of Mars
- The End of Time ("I don't want to go")
- Dalek
- The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances (terrified me for months as a kid)
- Stolen Earth / Journey's End
- Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead
- Aliens of London / World War Three
- The Impossible Planet / Satan Pit
- The God Complex (great, creepy episode but the ending was poor)
Nothing from Capaldi's era nor from Chibnal/Whittaker's era. Capaldi is a great actor, but I hated the scripts. Chibnal was an atrocious writer and the actors didn't help matters.
37:46 - thank you, been looking for a new ringtone 😂😂😂
Great video dude! You hit so many nails on their heads in this,RTD cheese just hits different and he was able to pull it off in ways no one else really could,if you haven't read it already i highly recommend "the writer's tale" book, gives some great insight into his "Who" era
it's on my wishlist, i do plan on buying it! :D
i feel like aliens of london two-parter is the cult classic of the rtd era, the prequel star wars movies if u will. its goofy, its stupid, but it contains a lot of important aspects. and even if narratively theyre not great, theyre a blast to watch
couldn't agree more! :D
