I had the same engine in my 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero 2500 Intercooler Turbo. Not the fastest car, but damn it was fun to drive with that 5-speed manual. And for a 2-ton+ car it was quite good on fuel. 9.5 L / 100 km? Not bad. I would never want a gasoline V6 or V8 in an SUV. You literally have to live near gas stations 24/7. No thanks. Diesel all the way.
my dad just got me this car as my first car, he got it for free with only 150ks on it. its pretty much the same as the one in the video (2.5L turbo diesel with an intercooler) accept its short wheel base. the body is a little bit rusted up so i decided to watch a review on it to see if it was worth the money, Thanks for the review 👍👍. I am planning to fix her up and put mods on it.
one thing people don't know about these cars. take the front and rear headrests off and lay the back of the seats down. the whole car has turned into a giant bed. witch is cool if you are stranded somewhere over night. i have never seen any car with this kind of well thought out layout.
In the philippines mitsubishi is still selling that exact engine with a different vehicle but n/a(non turbo) with a 5speed manual, very reliable engine and it's very noisy on the highway.
I had one like this with high roof, same engine. Great car. Not so good for extreme offroading but it had great driving and towing capabilitys. Very bad thing is the frame, they rost and they die of it, especially at the rear axle.
Audi floor mats... yeeeaaahhhh... 😂😂😂😂😂😁😂😆😂 I enjoy watching your vids Derek from Pacific Coast Auto!!!... lol Keep on the good work... can't wait to buy one car from you dude!!!.. 👌👌👌👌💪💪💪 #NicaraguanFan
I've got a pajero 1992 2.5 had it 7years cost me £300 spent £1000 on it over that time good car starts first time and good on derv.and isn't slow holds the road good great off road as well.
I have an 88 exceed version of your truck , it has heated leather sprung seats ,AC , electrics etc the steering wheel is huge so I replaced it a smaller sports wheel
Definitely is my dream truck I will get that engine change by tomorrow American diesel is only one engine good the one dodge ram use very strong engine I love that truck good in colombia 🇨🇴
This would be an awesome truck to have up here in Maine, I could be wrong but I don't believe you could get a diesel in the Montero's here in the states. Yeah you could buy a gas one an there probably isn't a huge amount of differences but the engine alone would make it worth it. A older vehicle like this would more than likely not be in as good of shape without someone doing a resto on it anyway due to rust ( they heavily salt roads here) but it would be nice to take out an drive the Mountains trails in it.
Mitsubishi pajero was sold as Mitsubishi Montero in the US market and they had no diesel model available. Many US consumers didn't really like diesel cars because of their noise and terrible smell, lol. Also, believe it or not, same car was also manufactured here in South Korea by Hyundai under license from Mitsubishi since Hyundai and Mitsubishi were good partners. The Hyundai version of Pajero was sold as Hyundai Galloper :)
Nice rig... great condition! The tid bit about kids and seatbelts really is disturbing. Even in my country (a small Caribbean island) it's illegal to have children under 5 in the back without a restraint. Under 2 a car seat is required, and from 3-5 just the regular seatbelt is ok. It's not ideal, but still appears to be more than what Japan mandates.
For a stock little 4x4 they are quite solid, especially for IFS, SWB model is better offroad wise. Only thing is the motor which seems to have head issues..
+Matt Dudley yeah your right I was saying like hard to find interior trim pieces or body panels but your right any place can get parts. I like to rockauto.com good place to find hard to find parts
Matt Dudley Yes these are the Montero Limited ! You cam get parts for them faily easy also. I am a huge Montero fan. Owned the 95 and 02. They are tough, and the low gear rang is the best i have seen on non modified vehicles ! They stopped being popular because our USA folks want that 8 cylinder power. They stopped importing them to the USA in 06.
In spanish "Pajero" means "Lazy", but in a very insolent and obscene way; or in less words, someone who masturbates. That's why it was sold as "Montero" in the american continent, and as "Shogun" in some countries in europe.
When we looked it up with a dictionary it said, "One who masturbates frequently". I would love a shirt with a picture of a Pajero that says wanker on it.
Yet in Japan, "Pajero" is pronounced with a hard English "j" sound (as in "jump"), instead of the Spanish "j" sound (which would sound similar to Russian "kh," or the "ch" in Scottish "loch").
I got driven around Barbados in this couple months ago 😂 never been so fucking scared in my life, that thing needed an alignment, the steering wheel had to be at 90 degrees to the left to drive straight 😂and not mentioning we almost rolled over in every single fucking roundabout.... looks nice but god damn death trap if It's in bad condition
There are various car websites about JDM vehicles being exported to another countries. If you have any questions be sure to check his other videos or directly send him a message via email. But as he mentioned earlier first gen Mitsubishi Pajero's are quite rare.
If you want to sell a vehicle with paint that is fading why not have it buffed?? I could make this look brand new and up your sell price. To me selling a vehicle at low potential is a waste of time.
I actually prefer the first gen Mitsubishi Pajeros than any modern SUV.
No rav4?
@@Maximus20778 rav4 reliability bad
@@Chlorindo shut up
Mitsubishi Pajero 1st gen was better than modern 4x4 cars.
The Japanese know how to make a good looking square body. Love em square bodies myself. This one would make a great trail rig.
In Australia these were extremely popular. In fact this model outsold the Toyota for many years. Love This Car.

My uncle had this. We used to take this to long trips with all my cousins. So much fun.
I'm a simple man. Dream car
My prayers for you to get it soon

I love those old Mitsubishi radios so much
I like the round sealed beam headlights!
Holy shit guys, did you see that wheel well??? Damn!!!! Thumbs up
I love this Model really my dream.
I had the exact same model back in 2000. Old heavy and slow 4x4s
E39ENTHUSIAST90 But diesel so *torque*
Hi, Iv'e had mine for 15 years... They last.
in the US the visors are so rain doesn't get inside, in Japan they are to allow smoke out lol
Yeah, so that you can open the window and smoke even on a rainy day. These were on most cars in Japan from the early 80s.
In the philippines mitsubishi is still selling that exact engine with a different vehicle but n/a(non turbo) with a 5speed manual, very reliable engine and it's very noisy on the highway.
What car?
cow 168 mitsubishi adventure
Adventure is not noisy on highways
adventure/kuda in indonesia...not noisy at all...actually more quiet than even newer innova
Now only if I could register that in California. Ugh!
I had one like this with high roof, same engine. Great car. Not so good for extreme offroading but it had great driving and towing capabilitys.

I own this thing now. Weird watching a video on it from 5 years ago

Do you have available parts, like sit of wiper, sit of hand brake cable left and right to the rear , handbrake cable of from the handle
i had an analog, called Hyundai Galloper Exceed. Basically i liked Mitsubishi more, because rebadged pajero is rebadged pajero

A local JDM import dealer to me has a 2-door one of these for almost $17000. I think he'll be sitting on that one for a while, lol.
At this point I hardly watch your videos for the cars and more so for your commentary.
Please check the label. I assume this was manufactured by Hyundai in Korea under license.
Hako-Wagon 👍

Ah Cummins 4.9 the best engine ever as you service properly every so often no problem 😅
89 and newer Pajeros have canter based trans mission, which is alot stronger than that galant trans mission the first models had.
This one is beautiful !!
sheldon murphy SuBHAN
Mechanically except the Diesel and RHD, they are pretty much a US spec Montero right? so basic parts are not hard to find.
If you can even find a montero in the junk yard anymore
True, but brakes, suspension and steering parts should be available at an every day parts store.

Danial Mahdi but why? This vehicle should have torque and a 1j isn't exactly the best choice for that.

Danial Mahdi but not at all
