My first Mitsubishi was a red 2-door Dodge Raider 5-speed, which was a Pajero in disguise. I drove it while attending community college in the late '80s. I REALLY loved everything about it!!! as a big Mitsubishi fan in the UK and a Mitsubishi owner. I hope that Honda look at the history and bring the pajero back in some sort of way and the other rallybred sports cars
The 2002 Dakar could be the most dominant win for any manufacturer in an multi-maker automotive race. Every car from 1-8 and 10 was a Mitsubishi, with the 5-6 places going to L200 Dakar prototypes.
Did you know that Jackie Chan and Mitsubishi are still partners when it comes to cars. Pajero garnered popularity in the Jackie Chan movie title "Who am I".
The Evolution had double wishbones in the FRONT, not the back. The rear was a bespoke multi link that was developed specifically for the Evolution. The Evolution also had bigger brakes, longer suspension travel and a chassis that was 2X stiffer than stock. Shinozuka himself assisted with the chassis and suspension tuning.
In brazil, since we speak portuguese, we use the Pajero name. I thought Montero was a north american only name, but now knowing the reason for the name change, it makes sense why the rest of south america apparently doesn't use pajero.

The engine in my 2002 Hyundai XG350 L is the 3.5L Sigma V6 which is derived (copied, since mitsubishi helped out Hyundai with that design & the 5spd trans which is an exact copy of the F5A51) from the 6G72 (I think that's right, been a bit since I checked) from the late 90's Pajero & is a shared platform (but my engine has ½ a liter more) than the V6 in the 3000GT. They have lots of interchangeable parts, so I've read/heard. Gonna twin-turbo my car someday and it'll be the Hyundai XG350 VR4 L.*and do the AWD swap I wanna do, using Hyundai Santa Fe parts
The UN bought Mitsubishi Monteros to use in the DRC/Congo because the 70 Series Land Cruisers were so expensive. The Monteros were all destroyed within 6 weeks and unable to be repaired due to the bad roads. The UN went back to Land Cruisers as they last 6 months before needing any significant repair, and usually limited to replacing suspension parts. Monteros only last when they have massive factory support and mechanics on the spot, the Land Cruiser don't require that type of support and they'll still get you home. That's why the military, mines, and heavy construction buy Land Cruisers.
