I’ve decided to STOP refilling my gas canisters after this comment - it shook me and it makes a great point.
“Pressure vessels are subject to regular stringent inspection & testing for a very good reason. It's not just catastrophic failure, it's the incipient gas leaks due to ageing seals too. Try balancing the cost of a gas cylinder against terms such as "Life changing injuries". Before anyone asks; Yes, as a retired fire officer I've witnessed many exploding gas cylinders & gas explosions.”

I like some of those tips especially the expanding cloth. On the cooking side I carefully measured and found a titanium cup 450ml, and a slightly larger/ taller one with lid 750ml that fits neatly into each other, my gas goes inside along with burner, lighter, plastic stand( with edges filed off to fit), plastic MSR scraper brush, plus titanium spork. The same as you a bit of paper then lid, finally I came across a folding bowl in Tesco for a quid in the dog section, I snapped off the surround and was left with perfect porridge bowl silicone 350ml.This goes just over the top of the set up and the whole lot fits into the single mesh bag which came with the larger titanium pot. Total weight 620grms and I can boil water for food and have a brew with porridge separate. This avoids trying to clean burnt titanium. Keep up good work

I like the bowl idea in particular. I had an AlpKit set but they were too heavy.

Old guy here. Never heard of the Panadol Night, but I carry a small tube of Voltaren Dolo, it's medicine not muscle balm, so you need to pay attention to the instructions for use.

Do you have a link for the almost waterproof zipup bags, Simon. They look handy.
Coincidentally, I'm travelling with the thin smidge at the moment. I have to say, I find it a bit of a pain to use. Maybe it's running out, but I think I'll stick to the full size in future.
Thanks for the vids, there's always things to think about afterwards.

Sorry, no. I've been through my emails and spent a while searching AliExpress to see if In could find them again, but no luck.

Can you get Thermacell there? Works great and pretty compact for bugs here 🇨🇦.

Is it safe refilling the small gas canisters? Mine explicitly says don't refill it.

I know a lot of people swear by their Jet Boil but for bike packing I think it’s too big. I use something pretty much like Simon, titanium pot just large enough to fit a gas canister, Soto Windmaster, a cloth to stop rattling and cleanup and a small collapsing cup in the top. Small and lightweight. Light windbreak wrapped. Long handled spork stays separate. I’ve tested the Windmaster against other no name options and it boils water faster by a long margin but it’s true I haven’t tested it against a Jet Boil

I swapped out my jetboil for a micro burner and titanium mug, like Simon. Saves space and weight.

I refill my gas canisters too.
Something that has occurred to me though is how many times can you refill a canister?
They are pressure vessels and presumably not designed to be repeatedly pressurised/ depressurised.
Is there a risk of them failing after so many pressure cycles?

That’s a good point and worth looking into.

Yes there is. Pressure vessels are subject to regular stringent inspection & testing for a very good reason. It's not just catastrophic failure, it's the incipient gas leaks due to ageing seals too. Try balancing the cost of a gas cylinder against terms such as "Life changing injuries".
Before anyone asks; Yes, as a retired fire officer I've witnessed many exploding gas cylinders & gas explosions. It's not worth it. Simon's old stamping ground "Look North" this week says it all.

@@ashleyhoward8926 I’m convinced. Thank you Ashley. As soon as I get out of the gym I’ll pin a Comment to this effect below the video. Thank you.
