I saw this video shortly after it was published and saved it to my favorites and never made any because I worked 2 jobs back then and then my computer bombed but, now I have a new lap top and only one job and enough fabric to open up my own shop due to my grandmother's fabric store closing - I asked for all the fat quarter pieces and remnants and small amounts left on bolts. Another wonderful elderly friend I have gave me all of her scraps and a wonderful friend of mine for my recent bday gave me a huge 11 drawer (some very deep) organizer from Costco and so now I am redoing all my fabric by theme prints, cottons, knit, silks, etc. I remembered in my mind about the mug mats and your company name and happy to see it was still on RUclips. It is a gloomy rainy Saturday in Alexandria City, VA so I thought I would look you up today. When I first found you (I am a dummy with computers) I never knew about hitting the like button/thumbs up and never knew you could make a comment until my boyfriend asked me recently if I comment on videos and wow - it is an exciting world for me now at home to write to other crafters. I like your video the best for the mug mats. Last Saturday at a craft show I participated in - their were enough sew items so the host of the sale told me to sell my jewelry I made - one of the ladies there had the mug mats made with triangle pieces and then you slip in the flat bottom of your wine glass into it and it catches the condensation on your glass and she told people buying her bundled up mats that then you know which wine glass is your's too if you put it down. So now I want to look up the triangle ones. I am sure you make them the same way. I had an idea too - if you wanted too in the middle of the opening, you can slip in a little note to someone. I thought that would be cool to make with Valentine fabric and slip in a little love note. I hope your still well. I believe I saw one of your videos long time ago and you mentioned you are from New Zealand - someplace I would love to go someday. My brother was a commercial fisherman years ago in the waters of Iceland another place my grandma promised to take me (she use to tell me that when I was young) but, we never got there. My father is from Oldham, England and came over on the Queen Mary in 1948 when he was 8 years old during the war. Much of his family went to a concentration camp in Kovno and died there. Sorry for such a long comment. Thank you for a wonderful video. Sincerely, Rebekah
I am a recently retired CNA and used to being busy. I am also new at sewing with a new sewing machine (Singer 1342). This is a wonderful housewarming and gift idea and looks like I will have a fun project to occupy my mind and be productive. I will start now so that I can have plenty of stocking stuffers for Christmas. Thank you for the enjoyable tutorial!
What a wonderful idea!! I was surprised when you turned it, it finishes so nice. Mother and her friends get together from time to time to chat over a pot of coffee, this would be a good gift to give them.
I used your tutorial to make these a few years ago. I am so happy to find it again as I have some lovely sunflower fat quarters that will be perfect. Thanks
Oh your mug rugs are so lovely!! I loved your tutorial, its easy to follow for a beginner sewer like me. My sister in law gave me a lot of nice fabric scraps from her quilting fabrics, so this is perfect for me to make. Best wishes from southern Alberta, Canada.
I have watched this video many, many times. Today I decided it's time to actually get started on gifts for Christmas. Great to have on hand and easy enough ideas fore last minute gifts. THANK YOU!!
I just made a second set of these as a housewarming gift. Love this pattern - so easy, so stylish. I have found that cutting the batting a fraction shy of 5 inches square works well in terms of the seams not being too bulky. I must buy some fusible batting though - it would make this project a lot easier. Thanks for the wonderful tutorial!
Thank you, Claire. I made these about 4 years ago and I searched the RUclips turorials and I was so happy this one was still around! It's the best little mug mat/coaster. I always get tons of compliments and it is my favorite tutorial for a mug rug as you can alter the size as needed! Best wishes to you and again, thank you. -Nancy Baker / New Jersey USA
Another great video. Thanks Never seen them made this way and are a lot firmer so last longer.. Seems I will now be making a large pile of these to keep on hand for a quick gift when needed...
Just a quick update... I continue to follow you,and have made most everything you 'e done tutorials on. You never cease to bring a smile to my face and your teaching style fits me perfectly. I occasionally pop a chocolate or two while zipping up your pouches. Everyone I know has a set of mug rugs😜
I was looking for a fabric coaster that was explained to me as a full-on beginner, and after going through so many videos, this is the one that I know that I can follow. Thank you for making this simple for me. Happy Thanksgiving!!
Decided to make a few mug rugs for my lunch ladies with a mug.......these are perfect! You won't believe this, but I've made these same little cuties as coasters for wine glasses, the stem bottom fits right into the openings and stays put as you carry it around to set it down.......who knew, two ideas, one cute project! Thanks....love your videos :)
What a great little project for leftover fabric - I can't wait to starting making these practical, cute, quick gifts! How about trimming the batting corners diagonally prior to fusing it onto the 5" square to reduce bulk later on? Also, I LOVE your beautiful scarf just as much as I love your wonderful tutorials!
I have immensely enjoyed making these adorable mug mats and watching your video. Are you still doing little tutorials on utube? As a new sewer after suddenly being thrown into the retirement world after 34 great years as an RN (illness) I have picked up sewing to get me through especially rough days and your videos have helped so much. Thanks. If there are more, I hope I find them.
What a fantastic video tutorial. I loved it so much. I thought you'd bias bind round the square but it was more than that. Turned over it was like a lotus flower and also the game we played at school when we were kids. Just amazing. I love your videos and enjoy watching them. But you didn't mention "chocolates". I love you. Thanks Cameraperson who was filming our Quilty Queen. Thanks for sharing and caring. Hugs. 😀😀👍👍👍💕
Ive made these for years....you can do it with any size square, even 10" and make a hot pad. Also, with the 5" squares you can fold them into triagles and layer them in the same way! FUN! This is an old, old pattern.
I love this tutorial! I'm so doing this, and i love to hear the rooster in the background, it's very calming, like all of your tutorials.....just a thought.
I made some of these in a hexagon shape, but I think I forgot the hidden square. Perhaps I'll try it in a square shape and REMEMBER that hidden square! You're right, they will make a great little Christmas gift.
I love your little mug mats. This is a great way to use up leftover fabrics from other finished projects. Wow. I'm so excited about cutting and sewing some mug mats today! Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. P.S. - will you tell me your first name? I enjoy all of your tutorials and appreciate your sewing knowledge.
Hi! I love this version. What is the fusible batting product you are using? It appears to fuse on both sides. I can only find fusible on one side. Tanks!
I have seen these mats used as coasters for wine glasses. The foot of the glass fits inside the folds ,and stays attached as you move about the room , making a traveling coaster. If they are in different colour they would identify who's glass ,much like a wine charm, that fits on the glass stem . I love your videos , your style is pleasant and easy to follow .
I really miss your tutorials, Gourmet Quilter. I hope you are able to return and give us more of your knowledge and wisdom.

What kind of double sided fusible batting did you use?
This is the same way I make sanitary pad pouches, only I use 6 inch squares. Great tutorial.

Very nice 👍🏾
do you think the iron on batting is necessary? could you just use a extra piece of fabric instead? Love these

la sigo hace mucho tiempo pero no hablo inglés y se me pierde parte de la explicacion pero aún así admiro su trabajo.
