The best bet at the Skyway is Spanish mackerel, pompano and snapper. The snapper are really small so 1 out of 5 or 6 might be a keeper size. Lots of undersized grouper so a keeper is a real trophy. Grouper season is closed now anyway so it is just catch and release. The Man (FWC) shows up a lot on the Skyway piers.
I didn’t catch any of those beside a really small lane snapper lol. I think the next time I’m goin to try the other side of the pier across the bridge. I figured it has to be a nice grouper down there somewhere, but I also knew the season was closed. I did see the man when I first pulled up. I hear I have to have a special licensed or take a course or something to go out there? I heard about it just the other day. Is that true?
@@386outdoors_ there is a short education course on Skyway fishing in order to be able to fish there. Grouper are small, I caught lots of them but seldom any keepers. Plus the season is closed. Have to got to 80+ feet now to get big snapper and keeper grouper. Water is too hot. The big grouper move inshore in January-February.
Bruh I really appreciate it! It’s crazy bc I can see it myself especially when I look back. But I’m still at the start of this journey, I’m just beginning
