I love 511 Tactical, have 3 of their bags/packs. My everyday carry is their PUSH bag. I'm retired now so I don't need to carry paperwork any more. Otherwise I carry similar to you, wallet, keys, phone, notepad, pen, small first aid kit, Surefire flashlight, tiny 8' tape measure(for those trips to Lowe's), and two 12 oz. water bottles in the side pockets. Summer time when I'm wearing shorts and no jacket, I'll use to back zippered pocket for my SIG P229 9MM. When I was working I used either my RUSH 12 or RUSH 24 packs. I think more men would love it if they tried carrying a bag for normal everyday use. I always thought for years that women were lucky with their shoulder bags.
Yeah I am totally down for man purses hahaha. 5.11 actually started where I live now - the name was based on the highest (at that time) climbing rating in Yosemite. Cool. I'd probably drop down to the Mike size if I didn't carry papers but oh well.
The real serious problem with this bag is that is too narrow for useless interior organization, Vanquest Envoy 13 is a more better messenger bag than this: - Better inner organization space - Orange interior for easy find - Can stand tall - Lot less useless interior organization material = less useless weight - Zip on top for easy interior access
I like the Vanguard a lto - and it was one of the competitors i researched. As to interior organization, it's is only useless if you don't use it and I like options. The Vanguard still has over 20 pockets BTW haha. ;) The Vanguard is also much smaller. It only fits a 13" laptop, and it only comes in one size. As to weight, the smaller Vanguard bag only saves you 5.6 oz. off the much larger 5.11 bag - and in the comparable "Mike" size, it actually weighs an ounce less than Vanguard's. I like the features you mention, but whether or not it is better overall (and at twice the price, it should be!) is really personal preference.
Probably my one of the best reviews I’ve seen on this bag. Agree highly that it’s really more of a document/paper carrying messenger than anything with all the organization. For me the only let down is the interior pocket for the laptop, it’s like it takes up all the space at the bottom leaving almost no room for the “main” compartment.
You know I’ve been looking for a new EDC bag and I have one of these up in the attic. I used it in the patrol car but I’m retired now. I’m going to repurpose it and give it a try. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Chico! I don't carry it on a bike but that's because I don't bike to work and I use backpacks if I am biking for the kinds of things I carry on rides. I have tried my Timbuk2 on a bike and that's why I keep the retention strap - I find messenger bags to sometimes flop around dangerously. And yeah, it's Dr. Doug actually haha. I was a prof. for about ten years, but the snowflakes took over so now I work in a parish directing the education program.
Nice review. I have a Xray and when people say it's big they are not kidding. I used it daily for work with a very bulky 17" laptop and a bunch of random IT stuff. It's held up without issue, and was surprised at the value (~$100USD).
One of the best reviews ever! Is this the full all-black or double tap? Also, other reviewers said this bag is too rugged for corporate/office environment. Thoughts?
Double Tap. I'm not sure what would count as too rugged. It does have the military look and that would maybe not fit in but really it's mostly the webbing. I'd say in a place thay accepted bike style messenger bags it'd look more conservative than most. :)
@@BackcountryPilgrim I agree.. For a traveling consultant, you never know how the next person will profile you based on trivial things like a military style brief or moral patches, grrrr.
@@BackcountryPilgrim I would keep the mesh but cut out the middle portion that was made for the laptop it would make it less bulky ,take a look if u got a chance

I’ve used this bag for years and love it. Occasionally I try different bags but always come back to this one especially for work travel.
Cool!

Yeah its not perfect but it's good. I've heard that 5.11 is discontinuing it so maybe a new model is coming!
I got an email from 5.11 that the Rush Delivery line has been discontinued so going Amazon route. They have a 20% deal on their site.
Oh bummer! Well glad you can still find one!

Yeah I love this thing. Going to be posting another video featuring it with some go bags soon!
5.11 Lima Double tap color very nice.I have been using it for 3 months.
I recommend it very well.information useful thanks.
Thanks! I hope you continue to enjoy it. :)
Nice job Doug. Great video. Crow✌️
Thanks Crow!!!
Another pro video! Do you often carry the bag on a bike, does it ride comfortably and out of the way? Academic? Professor Doug?

Yeah for a full sized tech bag this would be great!

Yeah its silly but it's possible with all the snowflakes out there. Without the patches I think it looks fairly tame though.
Well said 👏
Thank you!
I bought the Lima in OD green for $7.00 plus tax second hand. It's in good condition. Lucky find.

Anyone have a better way to carry the fire arm in it
I use this bag as well I want to cut out the middle divisions in the main pouch
I wouldn't miss the mesh pockets. :)

I could see that. But I like the pockets on that section. :-)
