- Do you know it takes 500 years for disposable Nappies to decompose? shocking right!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of the reasons why I switched to the use of Reusable Cloth Nappies, the main reason being the cost effectiveness in using Reusable cloth nappies especially in the year where the COVID pandemic has had it's negative toll on the economies of nations and finances of many individuals.
Disposable nappies are made of 3 main things:
An inner layer or top sheet which sits next to baby’s skin. This raises a lot of concerns to users as to the material which is used to make the inner layer of disposable diaper as the toxicity of such materials pose health treats to baby’s tender skin.
Absorbent core (most companies use Super Absorbent Polymer SAP) which soak up and trap fluid.
Waterproof Outer Shell mostly made of petroleum-based plastic
It is important to note that fluids can be squeezed out of the absorbent core of disposable nappies back onto baby’s skin. This poses health threat to babies as the liquid is potentially contaminated by the core material as the liquid is no longer just baby’s waste but a mixture of both. It is no wonder that babies get nappy rashes when disposable nappies are constantly used on them.
The use of Reusable cloth Nappies circumvent all the risk that disposable nappies pose to the tender and sensitive skin of babies.
