Korea’s camera work has always been top notch, yeah they have dress rehearsals and mic checks but bc they do these kind of performances on a daily basis they’ve definitely mastered the art of filming/capturing live choreography and performances
These music show performances have multiple cameras and after the live show you can sometimes find focused videos tracking each member's dance. The producers must have amazing skills to edit that many cameras live.
Dame Diddy, this is one of those weekly music shows I was telling you about that artists go on to promote their new songs. And then at the end of the show one artist wins a trophy based on album sales/digital sales streaming/youtube views/votes, etc. There are seven weekly music shows (M Countdown, Music Bank, The Show, Inkigayo, Show Music Core, Show Champion, & Simply K-Pop) and all but one of them (Simply K-Pop who is geared for the international audience & doesn't have that big of a budget) have a weekly winner.
Not an award show. Korea has a bunch of music shows that a crap ton of idols perform on throughout the week and basically get awards for topping the charts (but many groups perform because they essentially use these performances to promote their single and new album) Kinda like we had back in the 90s and early 2000s with VH1 and MTV etc.
Also could y’all react to “View” by Shinee? I know you guys have gotten into them recently and love their vibe. This was one of the first Kpop songs I ever listened to and I highly recommend it.
If you think of BET’s 106 & PARK this stage is similar to it in Korea (there are actually MULTIPLE versions in Korea: MCountdown, Music Core, Inkigayo, etc etc). Korean idols go to these stages and perform their debut & comeback songs for their fans & other viewers. At the end the top 2-3 songs compete on the charts for their trophy. This is a weekly thing that happens multiple days a week.
This is no an award show. In korea they have music shows which artist go and promote their title tracks and a b side track of their mini album or full album. They have about 3-4 different shows they go to. Inkigayo, music bank, and The Show I cant remember if there is one more but yeah basically it’s a weekly thing they do in korea.
There's seven shows. Some (especially rookies & just groups trying to make a bigger name for themselves) end up going to all of them. Big name groups do not generally go to The Show or Simply Kpop though (although you will sometimes still see well known groups on The Show because it is the one program where you have to perform on it to win & with the super big names not performing on it it's easier to win.) YG for the last few years only sends his artists to Inkigayo & Show Music Core.
Usually for these type of shows the artist get there extremely early. They got audio/mic check first, hours later they have a camera dress rehearsal and the finally depending on the line up artist do their thing live. The staff there are always there and put in a lot of work which is why camera movements are so precise
Blackpink performed this on a music show which are basically shows where korean artists go on and perform their newest songs and then compete which was the best song or most popular song of the week as voted on by fans from everywhere and they award the best group. Not exactly an award show but still really important, its like "you've made it" once u get 1st on a music show, its like the first step towards fame out there and now you can maybe win a huge award at an serious award show. Anyway these artist usually perform on these shows everytime they come out with a new album to promote the album and the single off of the album. Some of the performances can be toned down but some are really exciting and the stages have a lot of work put into them. If u want a good example of that i would suggest watching BTS- Spring Day on MCountdown its a whole production ! :)
Nah, like everyone is saying, this a music show Idol groups and soloists go on to promote their new releases. You can tell when it's an award show performance. Those are EPIC. totally different from western award show performances, the stages are 10x bigger and the audience is huge!! Check out BTS MMA or Mama for am example but Mamamoo, Twice, EXO(gayo daejeon and other festivals like that one), Monsta X, NCT, (G)-idle, etc... also put on some amazing Epic performances.
It's a weekly music show... kind of like TRL back in the day except with live performances instead of music videos and the winner of the countdown gets a trophy so major idols can often collect 10+ trophies while they're out promoting their songs because 3-4 TV/cable networks each have their own weekly countdown music show.
you could think of this show they’re performing on as something similar to MTV’s top 40 countdown except artists go on the show weekly to perform live to promote their new releases. and there are about 5 different shows that use this format- Show Champion, Music Core, Music Bank, MCountdown, and Inkigayo. those are, at least, the most prevalent ones. they’re each broadcasted on different days of the week so that artists (especially popular ones) wont have to pick and choose which shows to attend, at the risk of losing ratings. at the end of the show, there’s a point system that takes into account digital downloads, streaming stats, physical album sales, fan votes, appearances on other variety shows, etc... the artist with the highest total points of all of those things combined will win the show for that week and will be awarded a trophy. this likely is the primary reason you’ll find that kpop artists have really high YT views, because despite how good the song is, if your fandom is big and works hard at constantly streaming the song, the views are intentionally accumulated. also could be a reason why you might find that your commenters are requesting a ton of one song- they may want more exposure for a video to bring up the view count. a little more info if you’re interested - typically, unless an artist’s company has bad blood with one of the broadcasting networks on which these shows are produced, an artist will go on every one of these shows as soon as their new record is released, for about 2-4 weeks. and although i compared it to top 40 countdown, the artists who perform are not always the top charting artists. its more about being exposed to each week’s new releases. lastly, the crowd chants you’re hearing are very specifically organized. typically, the artists or the company write what we call a “fanchant” to accompany the song as the artists perform it. the fans rehearse the fanchant individually and occasionally as a group ahead of time and yell the chant as it has been written in synchronization with the song. theres a fanchant for every idol’s title song and sometimes even for b-side tracks. if you dig deeper, you might find that these fanchants sometimes end up being so tightly linked to the song that its almost impossible to sing the song without chanting the fanchants, even if you dont formally learn it or arent particularly a fan of that group. its an aspect of fandom culture in korea that i personally really like bc it encourages more crowd participation and boosts morale for both artists and fans when it booms lol
This was the second track from the Square Up EP they released last year, for which Ddu-Du Ddu-Du was the single. The other tracks on that album, Really and See You Later, are both also excellent - Blackpink might not have put out a lot of music so far, but everything they have released has been top quality, as if each song could have been a lead single.
One thing I have to give every idol group is that they work hard to promote their music. They do what they call comebacks when they release new music and they continually promote their song. They will sometimes appear on 4 and 5 stages a day to perform and of course there is also fan meetings and variety show appearances if invited , and interviews. So they work their butts of to show people their talent. This is one of those shows. Sorry the comment is long.
There is a music show scene, where they kind of compete. Voting is based on digital/physical sales, online voting, and live voting. When you release a song either a "debut", or a "comeback", you do live performances of it on these shows in rotation, for a few weeks. That's why Korean artists put so much into performing. They know they'll be doing it often, and they get a lot of practice at it. It's cut-throat out there, if you can make a good impression performing live, all the better.
There are multiple music shows in Korea that artists will perform on every week after they have a comeback. Usually each show will play once a week but if you go on enough you could be performing every day. They're used by idols to promote their songs and new album, hence why occassionally they promote b-sides like Blackpink are. After every episode of a music show, someone wins an award which is calculated by physical/digital sales and online voting.
for all these live performances, they do rehearsals where each member wears name tags so each cameraman knows who to focus on (there are tons of cameras, one on each member, wide shots, side angles, etc). they also have singing times for each singer so when it's live, the main controller knows which camera and when to switch up. I'm sure it's pretty standard everywhere except there might be more cameras involved on asian broadcasts since they like to switch cameras often (some complain too often) during each performance. you guys still need to check out 4minute - crazy!
OH! *_That_* Forever Young, the old Alphaville song from the 80s, that Youth Group redid in 2006. I didn't know JayZ did a version of it. I must have listened to this song hundreds of times, how did I never realise it had the same title??? 😲
You should definitely check out their performance on SBS Gayodaejun, where they did SOLO by Jennie, Ddu-du ddu-du and then forever young in a raw. It was fire!!
Clicked this because I'm pretty sure this is not an mv lol... its a love preformance on music show ( kpop idols perform their songs like this on weekly music shows like these everytime they made a comeback)
I am CACKLING at the fact that you guys reacted to this one and to hear Dame Diddy's confusion TOTALLY explains how it happened. You guys were totally good sports though. Just a FYI though, be careful with live kpop reactions because they're owned by the broadcasters (two of the 3 of which are government entities) and copyright strikes are random but hardcore.
yeah it would great to see more live performance reaction! Some group post their video of the live on their channel so you should be fine with the copyright
Hey as a warning, when other channels react to live stages, their videos often get flagged for copyright. A lot of these Korean broadcasting companies are very strict about their content. Not sure if this one applies, but just a heads up.
Sorry I know it's a blackpink reaction but i saw the commenters already explained enough, like extra info and little corrections, but if you love rap you should definitely react to BTS' suga solo song from his mixtape *Agust D - Agust D* it's on youtube. Thank you, loved your reaction💜
Apology accepted 😂 I thought you were going to get a shock when you realised it wasn't JayZ lol. Forever Young was the second single from their Square Up mini-album along with Ddu-Du Ddu-Du and was also written by Teddy. Despite not having an MV, it charted fairly well. Thanks for more Blackpink!! Request: "[FANCAM] Lisa Blackpink solo stage @blackpink concert in Bangkok 2019" 🙏🏼🙏🏼 I'm sure every Blink would love to see your reaction to this. Please also do a reaction to BLACKPINK - AS IF IT'S YOUR LAST (actually an MV lol)
that stage is one of the many that idols use to promote their song and performance and yes that camera work is common because korea is just better like that at those things
