Pin Layout:
Pin 30 is connected to your power source, you should put a fuse on this connection (or you can connect this wire to your parking lights if you don't have too many bulbs).
Pin 85 is connected to the factory turn signal positive wire near the bulbs.
Pin 86 is the connection to ground.
(Note): Pins 85 and 86 can be swapped, they just power your coil.
Pin 87 is the connection to your new bulbs and this flashes on WITH your turn signals. When the relay is triggered then pin 87 will be connected directly to pin 30 inside the relay.
Pin 87a is the alternate flash, this pin will connect to pin 30 while the relay is in the OFF position. This light will be on while your parking light is on, until you turn on your turn signals. When your turn signal is on this bulb will flash OPPOSITE the turn signal.
The end result:
You will have extra parking lights that power on until you turn on your turn signals, once the turn signal is on the extra bulbs will flash opposite your turn signals. You will also be able to connect extra turn signals to another pin coming off of your relay, these will flash with your turn signals and will not change the blink rate.

Ahh thank you!!! The diagram is soooooo helpful!! Been looking for best info on RUclips for few hours and finally found this! ❤️💆🏼♂️😎🙏🏼🙏🏼
Really really really helpful. Took me hours to look for someone to explain it correctly! Thank you!
So I need a 5 prong relay to have opposite flashing of the lighta
i have a truck with tow mirrors that are signals i want to turn them to runners when not flashing... how can i do that without having a steady burn when my night time lights are on its a basic on and off led not a multi function
Will the turn signals still work when you have your lights off?
This was a real help...I'm a volunteer FF and I am outfitting my personal truck with quarter sized LED's (Orange and Red) I am putting 5 of each, 10 total on each side of my running boards. I am gonna ask if you would know a way to ALTERNATELY flash the RED LED's then the ORANGE LED's (Wig Wag style) using a version of this technique?
My friend can you help me please? I need ti activate a flasher relay for led turn signals whit a 5 pins relay via my electronic switch.
thanks for the video, learned a lot. but if I wanted the same light to be my running light & turn signal I just 87 & 87a to the positive of same bulb? I would need 2 relays for a right ? thanks
+bob smith if you put 87 and 87a on the same positive then the bulb will be on regardless of the relay being on or off. I would wire 87a to the bulb positive and run your turn signal into 86 with a resistor (the resistor slows the blink rate to normal). When the turn signal is on it will energize the relay and turn off the light bulb as the turn signal clicks the relay on and off. The downside is that the turn signals will only work when the parking lights are on.

My bad, meant to say using left/ right signal flashers as trigger power for relays. My bike has auxiliary LED lights left/right side Daytime running lights. When I signal right flasher, I want left side drl's turn off & right side Drl's blink with the right signal flasher. When I turn off signal flasher, I want right/left Drl's turn on. I would need 2 relays For this, right & left side? Thank u subscribed!

Forgot to mention don't need resistors because I have a LED signal relay For my OEM lighting system
on a truck do I need a relay for each turn signal?
You will need a relay for the left side and a relay for the right side. Multiple bulbs can connect to the same relay
I would like this on my car but would like to use LED bulbs, how would it then be wired? Can you help?
Somehow you' forgetting that a) you need a brake switch to energize brake light, whether or not you use a relay
b) vehicle wiring is stranded, not solid , for a reason, to avoid vibration. Soldering stranded wire renders it solid.
This both makes connection vulnerable to vibration and increases resistance.
Buy a pair of AMP or Danirls crimpers and crimp joins properly.
Hi thanks for the information . l do appreciate it .
A question do l have to go to the relay to connect a extra light for the turn signal or l can connect to the wire that comes from the relay.
If on my car I was using a led tail light but was also used as a black light, what would I use to cut the power while the brakes are depressed to allow signal to flash ?
id love this on my double truck 26mt long 9 blinkers a side and people dont see them or read them cause theres other lights the same colour around it and i want the whole lot to blink like this.
I'm trying to wire led tail lights on my motorcycle. I have Run/Turn/Brake plus ground for both sides on the bike and I'm trying to wire this into a two wire led light (so 4 into 2). Can you help with the construction of the circuit?
OK Thanks For The Info , But To Run Head Lights & Turn Signals , I'LL Need The 5 Pin Relay Right ?
If parking light is off, will the turn signal work or the parking has to on to work as turn signal.?
I have tow mirrors that have a turn signal in the front of them. It is wired as a turn only. I want this one light to be a turn signal and a running light. When the turn is off I want it to be on as a park light. This can be done with 2 diodes and a resitor. Can it be done with one of these relays?
+kevinwi69 yes. You have to run a power wire and place a relay in the mirror, unless you want to trace out the wire to where it splits off of your wire loom somewhere in the cab. If I were to do it I would run a wire from your parking lights to the mirror, and find a small relay. Then wire the power wire (from the parking lights) to relay pin 30. The old turn signal bulb wiring should have one wire going to 85 and one to 86. 87a should go to the turn signal bulb and the bulb ground wire can be shared with the relay ground.
but this then adds more load to your parking light circuit, which depending on the added circuit's load, could cause issues such as blown fuses, or melting wire insulation...
+themajorahole The relay would turn some of the parking lights off while the turn signal is flashing on, so it would actually lessen the load or keep it the same. The way I'm talking about wiring my motorcycle would add more load, but that load would be on its own wire going to the battery. Even if it wasn't and it was added to the factory wiring, the added amperage wouldn't overload the system. Some bulbs would be off and other would be on. Typical turn signal bulbs pull just over half an amp..if you have 6 of those (two front and 4 rear) then you are talking about 3.5 amps..or closer to 4 amps with marker lights. The relay would pull between 100 and 300 milliamps (0.3 amps), and some of the larger relays are still 800ma. So worst case scenario it raises the load to 4.5amps on a 10 amp circuit, but that is considering every bulb is on, which it wouldn't be. At just over .5 amps you could run maybe 17 or 18 bulbs at 10 amps and run the risk of damaging things. It isn't enough to melt the wire or blow the fuse. The 18awg wire that is typically used in car/moto wiring can handle 15 amps at 12v typically, unless you use longer wire, then you would lower the ampacity. So in reality, it's as safe as the person doing the wiring (sorry for the long description)
Awesome video dude! One question though, I want the side light to turn on the same time as the park light and flash the same time as the turn signal light, not flash the opposite way. Do I wire a 2nd 5pin that runs from the park light to the 30 of the 1st relay?
I'm not a pro, and I don't know why you would care it they both flashed at the same time or not, but it's your choice. I'll be using the circuit he just showed us when I re wire my 81 Camaro Z28. I don't care if they come on and off together.
But if you want them to come off and on together, I think that you would need another bunch of stuff involved. I think you would need a "switch-back" unit in there somewhere. Research it, but that involves 2 diodes in parallel in there.
More stuff to buy, they are hard to find, more things to burn out.
It's your choice. I haven't drawn out the circuit that you would need yet because I rather have an easier, more dependable circuit. But it should be doable. Cheers!
My problem is, and I'm probably an idiot & can't see it, but I want to tie my cars turn signal light and separate running light to one light, blinking on off like a turn signal and working as a running light... I follow the diagram, and it won't flash (on/off), only (high/low flash)... HELP!!!
+Bannana person i'm trying to visualize what you're saying but I'm having a little trouble. So, right now you have a turn signal and a running light and you want your car to make both of them running lights until they are used as turn signals, which makes both also blink at the same time?
how to wire turn signal off when Drl on and then turn signal on DRL off?? how to wire it?
Hey mate, just a quick question.
As your turn signal flash, it will cut power to the 'parking light', which will be replaced with the 'turn signal light'. Once this turn signal does one flash, wont the globe instantly flick back to the park light signal? Or am I slightly missing the point haha.
I'm trying to turn my turn signals into park lights (with the full 21w), however still flash as turn signals
What Is The Part # Of The 4 & 5 Pin Relay ???
Thank You
Joe
+Joseph JosephV it is called a Bosch style relay. There isn't a specific part number that I know of.
What software are you using to animate the circuit?
I didn't use animation software, I used screen capture software I could draw on and I cycled through two pictures that I drew.
This was Great, Thanks 👍
my ford focus 2010 station when i switch on park light rear left brake light is also working, rear right works when i press pedal only.
pls help me
Nice simulation what software you are using
+Paul no special software. It is just two pictures that I move back and forth between and then I draw on the screen to highlight certain parts.
tnx
You See I Have LED Running Board Lights & I Want To Use Them As Turn Signals And Head Lights At Night With Turn Signals If Needed Along With LED Head Lights On
What tools can be used to make such videos to illustrate as this one you are using
+Francis Okhani it was pretty simple..I have a Linux OS, so i used a simple gif animation and drew on the screen with that built-in feature. That with screen capture software.
Ive try this diagram for Left and Right rear brake light but my 30 & 85 feed to my turn signal and 87 my brake light. When the turn is on both my brake light is on...i only test one side only. should i wire both using 1 right relay and 1 left relay to make it work when turn left is on brake left on not both side
