tbh not many songs are great AND popular in Germany. And the ones who do run 24/7 on the radio so that even they start to get annoying and if you are unfamiliar with something its normal to draw comparisons to what you know. Also the snippets of the songs are relatively short, so you anyways don't get a good idea of the whole song, but it could have been a bit less "making fun of"
your reaction is a perfect example why most people in the world think that americans are ignorant af and that they are very uneducated when its comes to anything outside their borders. Instead of just appreciating other countries art scene its like: "oh its german wiz khalifa, oh its french michael buble, oh its spanish lady gaga!" (we are so original and funny....not :D)

There is nothing going downhill. The last years have been musical hell in germany.... it's all the same trap beat crap with the same lyrics by the same drug brain artists over and over and over again and if it's not that, we get some remix of an old hit xD i can't hear that stuff anymore i went straight back to songs from 1980-2013 and i don't regret it even for a minute
It's not very representative. One for example is missing extremely. There is a Rock Genre called 'Deutschrock' or 'Krautrock' which is liked by many many people. But there are many bands that do simple German Rock like "die Toten Hosen", "die Ärzte", " die Böhsen Onkelz" (those bands are the oldest and most popular and it kind of started with them). Many Germans don't like them because they are polarizing. But under the surface of the popular music you will find people everywhere who identify with this kind of music. The german music scene is very diverse, and classical, opera, metal, medieval, pagan, electronic and goth are bigger here than in most other countries. But not reflected in spotify single charts. Album charts will paint you a whole other picture though. The reason why those songs are still the most popular is for one: People who listen to this kind of music only listen to this. While people who, for example, like metal also often listen to different goth, metal, pagan etc genres. And most folks in those genres don't stagnate with one single song but switch betwenn others. Also, at least within the 'Deutschrap' (german hip hop) scene the album and single releases are very much timed. Most of those rappers belong to a certain circle with certain backing, so their releases do not overlap, hence the staged conflicts between them (with rap battles in their songs) that can go on for years, with a collab in between or at the end etc. While in the meantime you might have 4 of the most popular german metal bands have all a release within a week.
