*pinch test* "My apologies if that's a bit too much" - heck no, we need more honesty and openness like that. Thank you for producing all the great content you do.
Pinch and bloodflow - vital information and good to hear, nothing worse than getting 20km into a cycle with fresh legs but "the area" becoming numb and uncomfortable. More saddle reviews need to mention the "feel". And just as I was about to type re scenery, you mention it. It's cold, overcast, and dull here in Scotland, so envious of the sunshine (this can be applicable at all times of year) and seeing more of the volcanoes around the Ballarat area.
Just wanted to say thanks for another year of great informative and entertaining videos. Cheers from San Francisco CA USA where it’s chilly and raining sideways, love seeing the blue skies and warm rides.
Excellent information bud. Mine arrives in two days!!! Can't wait to try the Stealth out!! I'm coming from a toupee Specialized so you can imagine!! And yes, the tender area down there has to be taken care of!! Excellent video and information my friend! I've subbed of Course.
Watching your ride video is like being on Zwift. Great scenery white fluffy clouds with blue skies . Virtually no cars nicely paved roads compared to the UK.
Really looking forward to the medium term feedback. I landed on the stealth after a pretty expensive search through several long nose saddles on to the power, selle boost, and power arc. Curious about the cadex one that I wasn’t aware of but I did tear the side up a bit on my current stealth in a recent wreck so it’ll probably need replaced this year.
Haha, I also do the "pinch test" several times during a ride. Many times I end up riding out of the saddle for a while to get the blood flow going again. Once I even got injured because of the numbness. But I guess I already said enough...
Always enjoyed your Lama Rides videos! Watching this one on the trainer while I await a covid test result after my Festive 500 buddy tested positive after 4 days of solid riding with him.
@@gplama Yeah revenge for me sucking his wheel for 22 mins up Kinglake. No symptoms and still waiting for my result after 4 days, makes it hard to do the right thing and isolate.
I just switched my saddle to a Selle San Marco short saddle with a cut-out because my Bianchi came with a longer saddle I didn’t care for. I don’t know what it says that a 50 dollar saddle ends up being the most comfortable for me, but it’s what I am going with until I have a reason to swap
Really enjoying these videos seeing how you complete your Festive 500 in sunny Oz. Doing mine all on the trainer because British winter sucks. Currently on 228km, but am yet to ride today. Maybe 50k later. The F1 style power meter going up the KOM is a nice touch. Did you get the Strava segment? Maybe you could get Mrs Llama to contribute on saddles for the ladies? Oh, and don’t mention the cricket! 🤦
Selle Italia Boost Flite is my saddle of choice. Tried so many to get to my current perfect one though. You’re right about cost though - some things are worth the money & saddles are one of them.
Loving the Zwift kit being worn outdoors! Hope the saddle works out, I opted for a Stealth Superlight edition at approx. 140g. Take a look at the Berk Lupina at 90g for a 132mm wide or 95g for the 150mm!
Really enjoying these videos and envying the weather - went for a 92km ride today here in Shanghai today and it was only 2 degrees C, so no jerseys or shorts for me! I picked up a new saddle earlier this year that I now swear by - a Brooks C15 Cambium (no cut out). It's been great for me - I've ridden it up to 240km in a single day without any discomfort or numbness. A bit heavy if you're worried about weight, but as my bike is not light in the slightest (15kg) that doesn't bother me at all.
Yay two saddle videos in one day (Francis Cade released a bikefittuesday saddle fitting video today, feat. our favourite bike fitter) Glad your F500 is going well. I still have 277k's to go in damp 8-12 degree UK weather.
I have such a hard time with sit bone pain. I have spent so much money on saddles. I am currently using an Infinity E1X saddle. No more sit bone pain but not 100% pain free.
I'm also on the new saddle at the moment - it's on the Wilier Shimano let me use for the next couple of weeks. I'm pretty happy with that saddle, since I have the older PRO saddle (same as yours) on my Cinelli and they're pretty similar :)
I love your empty roads, finishing off the Festive 500 commuting to work in the rain and cold with a lot more traffic. Fizik Arione R3 large sorts out my rear end. Happy New year Shane, Von and everyone else.
For these short vlogs, you should consider making a longer B-roll, with just scenery! Talk about where you're riding.. show us the castle and the volcano!
It is interesting how scooped that saddle is in the middle, for a saddle they say is for an "aggressive forward position" I've tried a few like that and the scoop means that the nose is raised relatively speaking, and presses into the underside of the urethral area when the pelvis rotates forward.
With regards to the shape, the carbon rail and innox rail saddles are different. The carbon railed saddle is flatter. I have both in 152mm, and the steel railed version in the old one. Thought it's worth adding here as you noticed the difference too.
I'm considering trying one. I put in a lot of miles each year (this year over 13,500 mi / about 22,000 km) and ride in a pretty aggressive position, but even though I've now spent over $1000 US Dollars (2 different Fiziks, a San Marco, 2 different Selle SMPs, a Tri saddle, etc), I still haven't found one that works no matter what saddle position I try. They have a very interesting shape, and I can see how it might work when riding aero, although I was also convinced that the tri saddle would be the answer. Rejoice when you find a saddle that fits you!
Like the vlogs. You might try putting strip of tape on your stem for items to cover during your vlogs on the bike...an idea. Forgive my US lack of knowledge but when you mention cricket, are you talking about the sport?
yep, it's the sport! Australia just won the Ashes from the English today, this is as big a victory as it gets in Cricket Ashes were from the stumps that were burnt after Australia won the first test match held in Australia in 1882 between Aust/Eng - they are held in a tiny urn smaller than an egg-cup
Appreciate the mini review of this new saddle from Shimano and nice to see the old and the new saddles in a side by side comparison. I found the same issue of the padding on the older version being a little too hard. I ordered the Stealth Curved Performance Saddle and should be arriving this week and I'm hoping it's comfortable. I found the padding on the Specialized Power saddle to be the best out there so far though. Thanks for the video and Merry Christmas Shane!
Nice looking flat saddle. Have you ever broken carbon rails (from a crash or otherwise)? I've also stuck with Ti rail saddles but I'm looking for a new saddle
Dreading having to change saddle some time. I've a Scott OEM one that came with the bike 12 years ago. It's been good for 100+ mile rides, but I've no idea what I'd replace it with
It’s a great saddle been using it since September and on the road n rollers leaves no numbness. Using the Prologo Dimensions on other bikes they appear to have a slightly thinner nose than the Stealth. Jealous of your weather.
Tried this saddle and couldn’t get along with it, I went through trialling about a dozen different “cutout” saddles and found that because none of your weight rested on perineum and all weight on sitbones that the width and “drop off” angle at the sides was far more critical than traditional saddles. I didn’t find sit-bone width measurement tools/tests any good in terms of providing useable information for which saddles would fit, I just ended up trying loads in different widths. I won’t say which one worked for me, since it’s pointless recommending saddles, you just need to find the one that works for you 👍
easy enough to find ur sit bones and set up a small test at home to find those points . Did this years ago to learn my sit bones were narrow , been on 130 mm ever since and no issues
@@garylugg9860 not sure if you read my comment. I did measure my sitbones, but the information that gave me did not help me find a saddle that was actually comfortable. Sit bone width is one part of the equation only, the saddle also has to be the right shape and there’s no simple “ number” that describes that shape for an individual. Your level of comfort will also depend on the portion of weight that rests on your saddle (as only one of the three points of contact) and your pelvic angle, both of which which depend on your ride position and bike geometry, and on how many miles you ride. It’s simply not as simple as measuring your sit bones and then finding a saddle that matches that, especially with cutout saddles.
