@@vd792 Yeah because the Ulra 64 was not as powerful as first stated it would be. But when I first saw this intro in the arcade I almost passed out. Everyone already knew about the upcoming Ultra 64. There was no internet but everyone who ever played a game knew about it. And so many people would have bought it. But after delay and delay, namechange a lot of people were sick of it and bought the Playstation that took the world. Not saying the N64 was bad, cause it has a lot of amazing games, but it would have changed everything.
@zenjiros - I was also 14, loved this game every time I went to the bowling alley, all you hear was this loud speaker playing on this arcade cabinet, and the bowling balls crashing in the background. Jago is my favorite.
There's an interview with the guys at Rare who made it...the goal was indeed to stick out above the rest of the arcade. I remember it the same way. It was the loudest and coolest thing in the arcade by my house at 8-12 years old.
Man, to see this again makes me quite emotional. this was by far my FAVORITE game as a child growing up. I remember how amazed i was when i first saw this game and still am amazed by it today. I miss this game!
Damn the nostalgia man!! My mind was completely blown as an 9 year old kid seeing this game for the first time back in '95. There was literally no other fighting game like it, the graphics, the combo system, the music, it was all on another level at the time. I remember the first time i saw it was at a CiCi's Pizza next to Crusin' USA and Battle Arena Toshinden. Everytime i went to that CiCi's KI would be all i would play. Hell i would barely even eat any pizza, i'd just beg for quarters and run to go play it basically the whole time we were there, lol.
this was the best arcade era....EVER. when ki came out, all my fav arcade hits got reduced to ashes. my friend made a killing at school selling printed out ki faq's manuals. no game had me this hype. going to the mall with my friends, we would walk to the arcade and as soon as we heard sounds from ki like...ultraaaaaaaaa comboooooooooooo...we started running.
Man I was 12-13 when I saw this in the arcade.. I'll never forget that.. I must have rented a SNES with this game a half a dozen times.. I also remember being disapointed that the N64 wasn't able to have those sweet intro videos like the arcade had.
My god I forgot how EPIC the announcer was back then and I just simply loved the music that was playing while selecting your character,it rings in my head still to this day.LONG LIVE KILLER INSTINCT
I will never forget the first time I saw this in the arcade as a 14 year old........I couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks! My brain went in to high gear to try and memorize the awesome music tracks I heard on the first listen!
This was one of the few fighters I played in the arcade. I remember the advertisement for the Ultra 64 in '95 which was delayed and didn't come out until later. The SNES version was one of the best games for the system.
I too will never forget the first time I saw this. I literally watched people play this for 2 hours straight. I could not wrap my brain around how amazing it looked. There were CROWDS around this thing for months.
Lost the count of how many times I've played it. And the times I finished it, since Eyedol and Fulgore are actually really hard to beat, and man this is so good!
When the SNES port came out, there was a bonus CD with the arcade soundtrack in the box. I am SOOOO glad that I bought it from my friend for $5 back in the day.
Imagine this: If you're in the arcade with your friends, there are SFII, MK and Killer Instinct machines. You just walk in and what will be the first thing that will take your attention? Exactly: Killer Instinct has such a screaming and epic intro that it will imediatly take your attention. And it would be well worth it!
THE ANNOUNCER....he totally MADE this game what it was. Such a deep, reverberating voice! I could hear it from a mile away. Every single voice sample gave this game pure POWER. If they make a KI3, they MUST have this announcer back. My favorite sample is "C-C-C-COMMMMMBO BREAKER!"
I still remember standing and watching people play this for hours the day it came out ( i ran out of quarters)...I was gobsmacked at how good it looked. It was a fricking event. Nothing since in the arcade has captured my interest, except maybe Hydro Thunder...
You're right about the graphics, HotRod97SS. Both KI games' graphics STILL look great, over 10 years later. This series was truly a Rare Masterpiece, and it would be interesting to see how the game would look utilizing today's graphic technology. ...Now, if only we could get another version on Live Arcade (With Online Play!!), I'd be in gaming heaven...
I remember this game being really shitty on snes graphics wise until my father took me to the arcades and showed me this awesome version. Made me a fan after.
Burnpro Burn ayo don't you go crappin on the snes, I bought one JUST for killer instinct.....and sunset riders.....but I really love K I and the snes was a fun substitute for when you didn't have an arcade cabinet nearby.....
I remember when reach time-out that day and saw Mk2 and the Street Fighter machines empty. This was the first fighting that have a hard drive in it, and the first fighting game created outside Japan to have such fame.
DOES ANYONE AGREE WITH ME WHEN I SAY that this game opening was the BEST with song and everything else for all of gaming history? I swear to god it is. I miss playing this on my super nintendo! Long live Killer Instinct and remake it and ill get it on DAY FREAKING ONE!
*(Me in 94, age 7) "Oh cool I cant wait for that to come out so I can play Killer Instinct like the arcade!!" (Me in 95-2009) .....bastards..............
Since Donkey Kong was a Nintendo Franchise, it was only natural for Nintendo to RETAIN their own license when they split from Rare. Rare was simply the developer of the series. THAT'S why you see stuff like Diddy Kong in Smash Bros. Brawl, and all the Donkey Kong games after Nintendo split from Rare being somewhat...'inspired' by the Donkey Kong Country series. Notice how Rare kept their own original properties after the split, like Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct, Conker, Banjo-Kazooie, etc...
Esse jogo fez parte de um dos melhores momentos da minha infancia, quando eu tinha o super nitendo e desafiava os meus primos e irmão, eu era a melhor com a Orchid ( a garota do bastão). rsrsrs Muitas saudades!!!!!
Damn, I was 15 when this game came out. I loved going to the bowling alley playing it in Florida. I always waited for the Ultra 64 and sadly it never came out...
ooh man, I remember the first time I saw this in the arcade.. I thought those FMVs were the most amazing thing I had ever seen, and I was so excited about being able to play it on "Ultra" 64.. but then I was so sad that it didn't have FMV capability.
This takes me back to 1994 when I wasted tons of quarters in the arcades on the first 2 "Ultra 64" games ever made... Cruis'n USA and Killer F'n Instinct!
Hello. My Name Is Aelohim Balthrop. I would like to say that i have been a dedicated fan of Bethesda games for many years. Ever since my ex girlfriend introduced me to Elder Scrolls 5 I was just delighted to play for many hours. I Played Fallout 4 with eagerness tried to complete all the quests, find all the legendary weapons and amulets with sheer joy. I was even more excited when DLCs and Mods were being made exploring all the features and possibilities having fun. When Fallout 76 was in stores, I was one of the first to physically run TO the store and purchase a copy! Along with a brand new computer that can handle the graphics and game size. I was so excited. Finally, Fallout 4....with friends!!! Or so I thought..... I got home, opened my PLASTIC SEALED plastic case. I was horrified! Where is MY game disk??? I physically went to the store to BUY the actual copy of the game in DISK FORM. I actually thought someone had stolen it or there was missing product. I looked at the DISK-LIKE card with a freaking game code..... Not even a sweet poster or stickers..... No just A game code.... Bound by a plastic case, sealed in plastic.... If that was the case I would have NEVER acually go to the store and PURCHASE a physical disk containing the game. 47-50 Gigs!!! If this is a joke. Its in very poor taste. In my area the speed of internet is super slow and there are only two service providers in Houston. I have not even gotten to play the game. Constant server errors, reset connections, restarting the process twice just when I had over half the game downloaded. It really is terrible. I feel angry. I feel scammed. Defrauded. Just plain let down by a company I had so much respect and admiration for. If it was the question of a game code, then why cant you just sell the game online and send me an email? Why go through the trouble of wasting plastic and paper to sell me a sealed empty BOX??? this is ridiculous! How can I get a physical disk. To install the game and play? If not a USB memory stick? Please fix this. I am a dedicated Bethesda Fan
But Rare were the developers of the Killer Instinct games, which is one reason why you haven't seen any new Killer Instinct games on any Nintendo consoles since the N64, along with Rare and Nintendo parting ways, of course. Anyway, this is probably my favorite fighting game. Ever. I've spent countless hours playing this game on the Arcade, SNES, Game Boy, N64, and Emulators. The graphics (Dig that FMV!!) and combos were fuck.ing insane for its time, and I'm still waiting on another sequel...
The game's actual fighting mechanics these days may be considered somewhat iffy, but man did this game ever ooze style! I can still just barely recall my first time coming across a KI arcade unit. It was like "...Is this for real? By NINTENDO!!? IS THIS FOR REAL?? O_o Looked graphically incredible back then, but its epic flashy visual and audio style was superb.
Retro Studios needs to take on Killer Instinct. After seeing what they did to Donkey Kong Country, making a remake that was JUST as good if not BETTER than the original, I'm positive they could do just the same with Killer Instinct.
Holy crap I didn't know the arcade version of the original KI had 3d backgrounds! All I ever played was the 2d SNES version, and then the 3D Killer Instinct Gold on N64...
When my arcade first got this, I could barely see what was going on because of the big crowd, and the fact I was usually one of the youngest and shortest. This and all the other "headliners" were put in these big "jumbo" cabinets, I wish I knew the correct term for them. They don't make games with jacked up heavy music anymore...games competed on the floor in a loudness war of sorts
1994, this was so ahead of its time. Compare the visauls to sf2 and mk, this would have still been solid graphics for an early ps2 game and this was almost 10 years earlier. They need to reboot this franchise, the fans need to become more vocal and demand a sequel or atleast an arcade port(with online fights of course). Look what happened with marvel vs capcom.
AVAILABLE FOR YOUR HOME IN 1995 ONLY ON NINTENDO ULTRA 64
+Alessandro Arcangeli (alearca) When I was a kid in arcades I remember this :)
Greatest lie ever xD
KILLER INSTINCT
it was only Killer Instinct Gold wasnt it? Not the original killer instinct

The intro there just sends chills down my spine. EPIC!!. Awww yeah!!
The best promotional intro of all time!

still gives me chills hearing that... Ultra 64 was looking badass! Then it became Nintendo 64 and more kid friendly
bobcharlotte exactly lol
Might be the single dopest line ever spoken?!?...
I remember when I was a kid I never thought there would be another fighting game that would drag me away from Mortal Kombat.....I was wrong....lol
This is the intro that I personally like especially when annoucing the ULTRA 64 which turned into the Nintendo cube.
Killer Instinct. I love that part so much as the music builds up.

GREATEST VIDEO GAME EVER!!!!
I know right? And that theme sounds totally heavy metal!

When the SNES port came out, there was a bonus CD with the arcade soundtrack in the box. I am SOOOO glad that I bought it from my friend for $5 back in the day.
best fight game ever. the dream of all players, hear screaming ultra combo in the game room

featuring one of the best intro voices for a game.
presenting...Killer Instinct
so epic
The announcer is just so F***ing EPIC at the end! I love it
Thanks Midway,Rareware and specially Super Nintendo for made our childhood the funniest ever!
Best soundtrack and sound effects ever for a game. For these who were used to the SNES version, the arcade was the climax.

This was the introduction to hype me up the most out of any game ever made. "Coming to your home in 1995, only on Nintendo Sixty Four!"
Thats what the intro shoulda' said
No, because this awedome Version never came. Just killer instinct Gold in 1996 and it Was miles behind the Arcade Version.
man l miss Video game Announcers like this! it made you feel like you where playing something more than just a game!
I hope KI3 gets made.
@zenjiros I was about 13 , I was amazed by the graphics and the music , I WISH RARE WOULD COME OUT OF THERE CAVE AND MAKE SOMETHING AS AWESOME AS THIS
Omg I remember this game.. I really master this game.. Played it every day after school. Wish they will remake another one..
That would rock, we also have a chance to see KI & KI:Gold on the VC as well
I remember when reach time-out that day and saw Mk2 and the Street Fighter machines empty. This was the first fighting that have a hard drive in it, and the first fighting game created outside Japan to have such fame.
the rareware logo looks fantastic in this game
at school,we play this like a drug

Mortal Kombat got the ball rolling. Killer Instinct evolved the game!
The intro sounds exactly like the beginning of this SOS Band song-Just the Way You Like It.
I now have to dig out my SNES cartridge and play this, I love this game.

Fulgore and Glacius are the toughest characters that were so easy to use and defeat opponents with, IMO.
Dude I remember playing this as a kid, I would put the game in just to listen to the song. But I always played as Cinder, I was BAD ASS with him
i miss this game. we are due for KI3!!!!!!!!!! whats up rare we as fans deserve it after a what almost 20 years!! thats a long time for a game wait yo

Best SFX on a videogame ever!!!
And then it came to the SNES. It still kicked the ass of all future games and presnt day games.
Absolute classic. Now I just feel old
The game's actual fighting mechanics these days may be considered somewhat iffy, but man did this game ever ooze style! I can still just barely recall my first time coming across a KI arcade unit.

What memories.... amazing. @0:57 player selection seems Rocky IV soundtrack... when Ivan Drago waits the match under ring against Apollo.
UULLTTRRAA CCOOMMBBOO!!!!! Ahh the memories, bloody great game on the SNES. Never seen or played the arcade version though :(
Rare is supposed to be revealing a new title from a classic series at E3 this year!
@HackerMTY6 The Ultra 64 was the beta name for the Nintendo 64 back in 1994/1995. Since the N64 was skipped to 1996, Killer Instinct came to the SNES
i rember playing this game during my childhood it was awsome
the Announcer, he's practically the reason we all say "EPIC" to anything.
why did Nintendo sell Rare!!!!!!!!!
I love when that voice says KILLER INSTINCT
Been going through mine for 15 years. We never got this game for a home console. We got the watered down SNES version and the fuzzy KI gold on N64.
Retro Studios needs to take on Killer Instinct. After seeing what they did to Donkey Kong Country, making a remake that was JUST as good if not BETTER than the original, I'm positive they could do just the same with Killer Instinct.

@DrWindo you are so right. the announcer sounds real powerfull. The best of all times :)
this game came out the day i was born ahhhhhhh great childhood
When my arcade first got this, I could barely see what was going on because of the big crowd, and the fact I was usually one of the youngest and shortest. This and all the other "headliners" were put in these big "jumbo" cabinets, I wish I knew the correct term for them. They don't make games with jacked up heavy music anymore...games competed on the floor in a loudness war of sorts
The world needs a Killer Instinct 3.
Make it happen RARE!
the GameBoy came out after the SNES one. Arcade came first, then SNES, I had the GameBoy KI.
this game almost followed in mortal kombat footsteps as far as the combos, and dark storylines
If it were ever possible for the Arcade version of the first Killer Instinct to be released again I would lose my mind.
This definitly sounds like something composed by David Wise, who also composed the Battletoads and Donkey Kong Country series.
Klasik Game. Good old days of the arcade and wanting to reach the best ranking..
Dude Rare also made Conquers Bad Fur Day. Churning out the hits
OH man, i was hella into KI and KI2...those were the days.
Put sooooooooooooo much quarters into that damn arcade game when I was a kid! Would be nice if it was on Xbox live, and please come out with a 3rd!
I shed so many tears...
