I feel like former inmates always downplay the issue of sexual violence in prison because they don't want to be linked to it either as a victim or as a perpetrator. Hardly anyone ever says "I raped other inmates" or "I was raped". We all know its a reality and that there is massive under reporting by victims for fear of further victimisation.

No one ever says "I raped other inmates" or "I was raped". Its understandable... but the secrecy allows sexual violence to flourish.
I was in remand prison for a month. Homosexuality is the least discussed issue. People pray and help each in prison. Prison is not good or nice but it's not anything you have ever heard. It needs you to experience it. The biggest issue there is hunger!
