“As a curator and design writer, I’m used to commenting on other people’s style and use of colour,” says Priya Khanchandani. “When it came to taking on the challenge of decorating my own home, I realised how difficult it can be.” Having contributed to titles including Frieze, The Observer and Wallpaper* and having held the position of head of curatorial at the Design Museum for more than two years, Priya is a trusted voice in her field and has become known for her work on South Asian culture in particular. Naturally, we were fascinated to pick her brains about a particularly heartfelt project: the curation of her home in Archway, north London.

ABOUT THE MODERN HOUSE
The Modern House is an estate agency that helps people live in more thoughtful and beautiful ways. We believe in design as a powerful force for good - from personal factors such as wealth and wellbeing to more macro themes including community, place-making and architectural preservation. Esquire credits The Modern House with rewriting “the rulebook on estate agency”, and GQ has voted us “one of the best things in the world”.

We love the combination of colours, and how thoughtfully Priya creates a lively home space. It’s great to see her Tylko shelf being a real cabinet of curiosities 🧡
How wonderful to see stacks of books for reading enjoyment instead of using books as risers for objects.
This is a home filled with story and happiness.
This is my ideal aesthetic for a house. I love the combination of colors and how she placed them sparingly and intentionally around the house. It livens up the space just enough while still feeling comfortable and not garish
I like how the house is not overdone and gently enhanced with a keen eye
My favourite one so far! Priya's home is stylish yet homey, especially with the books and the stairwell is genius. Thanks for sharing.
Priya's house is gorgeous! And I just love the piles of books and her grandfather's table, some beautiful, real items to have in the home.
My dream home. I’d move in today! Also, Priya’s outfit is amazing. 👌🏼
I've been subscribed for a while now, not sure how. But I accidentally watched one of your videos this weekend and I absolutely love this series! I also like how you capture the brand/item name of other items in the background.
She’s lovely! Can’t wait to visit the museum where she curates ❤
I love this. I would paint the balusters the same yellow as that cute little chair.
This is basically my dream home - so playful but minimalist at the same time - very inspired by the colours used and the choice of pieces!
I loved the stacks of books ❤
If your visitors ask if you're getting a new coffee table, get new visitors.
That was my first reaction! Who would say that? I think the coffee table actually fits the decor very well, it’s a quintessentially 50’s style piece within a space filled with modernist pieces of various decades. Well done granddad! Love that it was one of her chosen pieces, shows how treasured it is.
Beautiful home. Inspiring bold choices from the orange chair to the hallway paint treatment to the pops of bright art and collectibles- yet all skillfully curated and balanced to create a calm and serene atmosphere.
Right? I cannot imagine a circumstance where I would say that to someone
I concur! What an incredibly rude thing for someone to say when visiting your home!
Yes… well said!
I really love this home, but I was so hoping when she opened the shelf door ‘hiding things’ that a pile of cords and obsolete remote controls fell out. I would have felt better about life. All joking aside, love the space and love of books!
Lovely presentation :-)
Lovely...
lovely space.
Thank you for the video!
This shelf!
Anyone have any idea who makes her sideboard? I love her house. So vibrant and yet minimal. Love it.
@isabelgallegos90 - thanks so much for watching! The sideboard is from Tylko: tylko.com/
4:38 I need to know the red paint I want to use it too for my house
Love the blue armchair 2:29, where is it from?
What sofa is that?
Did you find out?
I'd love to know the designer/manufacturer of the sideboard please
it looks like Tylko to me
Would love to know the designer of those sofas? anyone?
Genuine question, what does she do to afford a 800k- £1m house in Archway ?
Feels honestly like she just moved in a day earlier and hasn't given any thought to anything yet - or stamped any kind of mark, kind of like the cobbler's family who go without shoes. But I love the fact you show such variety as it's nice not to have everything so 'styled to the nines' also
what's the sideboard called?
@lisagorska7389 - thanks so much for watching! The sideboard is from Tylko: tylko.com/
Hmmmm...
personally i don't think she has a good sense of design in any sense.. the interior design of this property looks plain, unconfident, lacking in connoisseurship, lacking in spirit.
that's two lines, normie

Usually I am "Rich people have such wonderful homes!" In this case I really don't like anything except the couch itself but not how it is crammed in next to the door. The art is weird, the furniture pieces are weird, the moustache chair sits in a weird place, I despise these awful cubic office things by Alessi, I never liked those unfomfortable and most of the time wobbly tulip chairs, I don't like the marble table in that combination. I don't like the weird blue colour in the staircase plus the red handrail and the pink mirror. This home has no flow for me. Glad that rich people not always have good taste. 😄
I feel like nothing matches, and not in a good way. It also feels unfinished
Good job it’s not your house then! 😆
Hmm, we've got a self-appointed arbiter of taste here, haven't we? 🙄
@@MTMF.london Right? It might not be their cup of tea but I don't see bad taste here. Also, I never think that rich people have good taste as a given.
Well you seem like a lovely person 🙄 do you feel better about yourself now? What a horrid comment
ugh im so bored
Your taxes hard at work.
What are you talking about? The design museum doesn’t receive any government subsidies.. go and find something else to be outraged by
@@katie8325 It's funded by the Arts Council.
That door banging on the side of the sofa looks so awkward!
