    Hi Tom. I don't know you and we've never met, but you've pretty much taught me how to play tennis. Maybe one day I can get a lesson in person.

    Bending the knees while dropping the racket is my take home message from this video as I always have difficulty getting a good racket drop on my backhand. Thanks, Tom! 👍

    Like that you did the shoulder dislocation drill. Having had my shoulder surgically repaired (successfully) I cannot emphasize enough to limber up folks. Thanks Tom

    The future of backhand is a mix of double hand for rallies, one hand for away balls, left hand (non dominant hand) forehand/slice on balls further away. To do that, all you need an eastern bakhand grip on the dominant hand when playing double hand backhand. Using the same grip you can switch to one hand backhand for away balls and can play left hand forehand/slice on further away balls.

    Does the rubber band effect also apply to the slice backhand?

    • @Fundamentalsoftennis
      @Fundamentalsoftennis  2 года назад +1

      With topspin you get more rubberband effect because of the loop back and down then forward and up.

    Great lesson!!! But I would like to know why the most of players use two handed backhand nowadays... 😔

    • @goldencalf5144
      @goldencalf5144 2 года назад +5

      The two handed backhand is a lot more forgiving and fool proof than the one hander. You need excellent preparation to hit the one hander, whereas you can get away with poor preparation and even be late with the two hander. Also, the double hander is better for handling high balls. Have said that, you can generate more racquet head speed with the one hander. I can hit a single handed backhand faster than my forehand. But I struggle to control it, so I stick with a double hander.

      More stability with two hands and you can hit the return of serve a little later... with one-hand you really have to be prepared early and hit the ball a good foot in front of your lead foot.
      To your tennis success,
      Tom

    You have almost no hips rotation. Is it good, or bad? I heard that it's very important, but I'm no coach.

    • @Fundamentalsoftennis
      @Fundamentalsoftennis  2 года назад +1

      It really depends on the shot... in the demos I'm hitting down the line which does not require it... crosscourt it's OK.

  • @nyman70

    Actually, your racket should be striking/meeting the ball at the top of the bounce, not as the ball begins its descent. In effect, you're hitting the ball late and therefore losing power. 👍

    When you self feed at the end. You are not centering the ball and you make no mention of its importance in this video. No control!
