Geoff, the Double Bass community in the entire world cannot thank you enough for what you're bringing to us in terms of this instrument. Outstanding initiative! Thank you! Cheers!
I thought this would be a special video when I read the title. Ron Carter's response hit me especially hard. It takes a lot to admit that it's tough to organise our thoughts at any time and I think he's a legend for putting his thoughts and feelings out there so honestly. Music is important, practice is important but being kind to ourselves is essential if we are to get back to playing music with and for others. Thanks DDB and the legendary Ron Carter. Stay safe.
Embarrassed that I’d never heard him before, but Brian Bromberg. Wow! What an amazing touch and sound he’s got. Checking his work out now. As always, Geoff, thanks so much.
Hey Chad, I'm a huge fan of Brian Bromberg and would recommend you check out his albums Wood and Wood 2. They are INCREDIBLE! Plus, you wouldn't believe how many hit records he's played on such as Michael Buble's record with Fever and Moondance. If you listen to the bass there are some seriously hip lines happening on that record!
@@chadball4526 I got to know him as an electric bassist first, he is also a killer on electric. I saw him live in a fusion setting in the 90s, one of the best concerts of my life.
Chuck Israels: “Unfortunately there’re not that many reasons to play all the time.” Man, it was really reassuring to hear that sentiment from a master of the bass. Lately I’ve been feeling burned out by practicing with no prospect of playing with other people. At least I know I’m not the only one!
Dear Geoff, congratulations for putting this together and congratulations to each one of these fantastic musicians for sharing their wisdom with us. I had been making fairly good use of all this extra time but recently I have been feeling disillusioned. This was just what I needed to get back on the horse. Looking forward to more videos in this series.
Thanks for the inspirations. I've just picked up my bass after about 30 years. It's become frighteningly big in that time, my hands are weak and it hurts - but your channel encourages me to keep at it.
Thanks for watching Rog. I'm sure it will get easier, but it can be quite uncomfortable at first. Stick with it and I'm sure you will make great progress. :-)
Just dope!!! Geoff always brings something great then raw for everyone. What I founf trully microwaveable here was he featured John Pattucci, another favorite of mine simply dope again, Iget an awful lot from discover bass anyway they ben putting it down!!! nice clip of John on his broom., John Clayton and some others.
Great stuff! Good to see all these bassists. To see them in situ, and hearing about their desire/need to keep their chops up. Really liked Mr. Hurst's recommendation of a drum groove rather than a 'nome. Thanks to you, Geoff and to all of them!
What a great video. It's wonderful to see and hear the role and power of bass from these masterful players. Inspirational---Covid refuge=practice bass, write music and produce it. Seeing your videos really helps with the fun factor, thank you so much.
What a great idea! I'd love to see things like this even when the pandemic is over, especially hearing them identifying their own "deficiencies." The only downside is I realize I'M not practicing enough.
Thanks for the video, it's very interesting; however, Patitucci makes me laugh with his "advice" play an ostinato for not 3 mins, not 5 mins but 10 mins. (who has that kind of time?) No offense...but, are you crazy John?

Stringmatrix hey man. Checking that out too. Btw...really enjoying your videos on micing and bass tone.

Agreed. I really do hope it's not too long before we can all get back out there.

Agreed! That's such a special moment.
All the guys are my favs but damn Brian Bromberg makes a bass start testifying 👍🏿
I didn't like the vibe of his playing ... maybe because it's the only video where the guy chose to show off his huge house in the background ....

Wow, I'm not even a double bass player, but this was very inspiring (although I now feel guilty for not practicing even more)

Awesome
This.is.great...
Thank you :-)
amazing video
Thanks so much! :-)
Which bass is John Patitucci playing? The top looks very unusual, doesn't look like spruce at all.
It's an old Italian bass made by Gagliano. John talks about it in a future video.
Thanks for the video, it's very interesting; however, Patitucci makes me laugh with his "advice" play an ostinato for not 3 mins, not 5 mins but 10 mins. (who has that kind of time?) No offense...but, are you crazy John?
I would be “practicing” my spelling..
It’s spelt differently outside the U.S. www.dictionary.com/e/practice-vs-practise/
Discover Double Bass Oh well what do you know,... I guess I just “learned something” 😃
