    Something to share from my end. I have a Sony CCD-TRV43 handheld camcorder, and whenever I put in one of my 8mm tapes, the video doesn't show, but the audio works. However, the audio sounds warped and distorted. I fixed it by changing the CMOS battery in the panel behind where the LCD screen, and now it playing video and audio like new. I'm not exactly sure if this fix applies to VCR players or other older camcorder devices, have you changed a CMOS battery to resolve an issue?

      I haven’t personally. I have hundreds of players so I’m always checking problem tapes on multiple back up players. Usually when it’s a big fix, the players are retired to the rewinding section!

      I’ve got a Sony video8 player that’ll be chugging along crystal clear and bam it starts to distort. I’ll swap tapes a few times and come back around to the original tape and the distorted spot will be clear. It’s like there’s a loose connection. Anyone have this problem?

    The Sony is playing images with lines and the sound skipping. Cleaned the head drum and gears. Still skipping. Is the camera finished?

      Could be the camera or the tapes. Need 3-5 players these days for a collective smooth transfer.

    I hope i get a response 😢 the screen on my Sony Handycam has been busted for years, everything else works fine, but that means any old tape can only be viewed through the viewfinder.
    Now i’m trying to digitize old tapes, but i’ve run into an issue, trying to connect my camcorder into a video capture device, i hear the audio, but can’t get any video or even the default blue screen to show up on any video capture software not even OBS.
    The video capture device connects through the rca and into the audio/video input.
    Now my question is because i’m completely a newbie, is my problem caused by the broken handycam screen?
    Or
    Will switching my cables to an s-video connection instead fix this problem?
    I hope i dont sound dumb but i really have no clue if the broken screen is the reason i can’t get anything to show up on any video capture software.
    And does this now mean i have to look for another handycam medium 😢
    I’m not in the US , i’m all the way in Malaysia, so sending the tapes are not possible, i hope i get some help 😔

    Mr. Memories,
    Trying to play a tape and all I get is blue screen. Pause it and you can see a distorted image, sometimes almost clear. Don't think it's the camcorder (Sony) because another tape plays perfectly fine. All in the same camcorder. The tape did play perfectly fine years ago. Will these tapes degrade over time? Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    • @gotmemories
      @gotmemories  3 месяца назад +1

      Sounds like the tape could’ve gone bad but only way to check is to run through different camcorders trying to replicate the same outcome. If it’s the same problem on 3-4 camcorders it’s the tape.

    • @bluegarren9361
      @bluegarren9361 3 месяца назад

      @@gotmemories Could be the camcorder. I put a different tape in and got blue screen with the timer not counting. I thought it was completely blank, but it wasn't. Going through several other tapes I found out frequently I had to eject and put back in several times to where it would start playing. Some were ok and some you had to fiddle with, even with the same brand. Since everything is digital now the camera had been sitting for quite a long time. Just recently I wanted to capture some events on the computer. Unfortunately the tape I really wanted is the one that could be bad.
      Cheers!

    Hi there! I am using an legato capture card to transfer video 8 footage to my computer. When I play the footage on the camera, it looks fine, but when I see the playback on the computer, the video flashes a lot and are overexposed. I’ve tried a few different cords and same result. Do you know what the issue could be?

      I’m having the same problem. I have 8 mm Tapes and hi eight tapes. I don’t have any digital eight as far as I know it says hi8 on the front and 8 mm. Ironically, the oldest 8 mm played just fine. The rest of them for one was an 8 mm and the rest were high eight and none of them played. It was skipping and static. And I have watched these tapes before their birth of my children and other family functions but I’ve watched them in the past with the original video camera. They got dropped and ruined so I bought another camera What can I do?

    • @gotmemories
      @gotmemories  Год назад

      If they’re b&w, first guess is that they might be that they’re PAL or SECAM tapes from Europe / Asia / Middle East & you’re playing them on an NTSC camcorder (USA) if that’s the case, you’ll need a PAL or SECAM camcorder and also a multi standard VCR to run them though to change the signal from PAL to NTSC. It’s a pain & good luck finding all of the above via eBay etc, it’s probably not going to work or VERY expensive if it’s guaranteed / warranty.

    Hi Thanks for this video. I'm currently successfully digitising my old VHS and MiniDV tapes but I'm not getting any audio at all on my older 8mm standard tapes (video 8 I think they are called, larger than the MiniDV tapes). I'm capturing the images fine, both on the camera and the video capture software, but there is no audio at all. It's not crackly or distorted audio, just no audio. Is it possible that cleaning the heads on the camera would help? It's a 25 year old Canon UC4500E camera. I've got 10 tapes and there is no audio on any of them and I can't believe that I didn't watch them on my TV back in the day and would have obviously noticed if the audio wasn't working then. I'm in Australia so sending tapes to you isn't viable though it would be if I were in the US. Any ideas on getting my audio working would be appreciated. Thanks.

      @@gotmemories Thanks for the reply. I guess I assumed that dirty video heads would lead to distorted audio but wouldn't lead to absolutely no audio at all so I figured the problem was more than 'just' dirty heads. Also am I right in assuming that it's the same head that produces both images and audio?
