I was gonna say, sounds great, never experienced it. I've hit 450 but it was downhill and the throw of my life it felt like. Absolutely crushed for me.
I am new to disc golf. Been playing ball golf for 35 years, 2 handicap, member of an expensive private club. And because of Simon and my neighbor who plays DG, I am now obsessed with disc golf. Disc golf is so much more inviting than ball golf, and Simons's personality defines everything great about the sport. I could watch these videos all day. No doubt, Simon is bringing more of the masses into the game than any other pro, and MVP made the right call to sponsor him. On a side note, the Proton stuff is great for lower arm speed guys like myself. My proton Virus is one of my favorite disc.
Why is Simon so irresistible to watch? He's like the human version of Tibetan bowls. It makes me happy just to watch him do his thing and talk about it like he's not on camera at all. And the discs are killer. MVP made an mvp move with this guy. It's axiomatic.
Most likely the sickest "Field Work/Test Flight" video i've ever seen. Cheers to Simon and MVP for making this possible. Really looking forward to the release of James's new "Trail." 👀
Thank you Simon. Thank you MVP for signing Simon. And, continuing to make the best discs in the world. I've been throwing (mostly) your stuff for 6 years, and been watching Simon for the same amount of time. The honest reactions, the real-time testing process, was fucking great! Please don't ever stop
Man that proton Time-lapse is money, thats a dream flight for a disc. It reminds me of a beat in Innova destroyer. I love my current time-lapse, but id kill to have that proton!
Conventional wisdom on Fission says that the stability is like that of a normal disc 10 grams heavier. So your 174 is behaving like a 184 (roughly). The plates are consistently light and the variability comes in the rim mass. Have them send you some 166ish and see if they behave more like what you’re expecting. One of the things I was genuinely nerd-excited about with your signing was the Fission specifically since the greater mass differential between plate and rim heightens the gyroscopic effect for those who can spin. And that, sir, is you. Keep leaning in. Good things are coming.
Whats the point in that though. For sure if you have some concerns about injury or if you are a girl struggling to get the disc up to speed having a 164 gram disc behave like a 174 gram disc could be desire-able, but realistically if fission is going to get popular they need to figure out how to unlock performance from the heavier fissions using a new disc shape that you can’t get out of any other competitor’s disc. Maybe it is possible to use fission to make a 16speed driver throw-able?
Heck yessss ❤ In snowy Norway the days between disc golfing are far apart bcuase of the weather. Cant wait for the season start and summer weather again. Thanks for entertaining us while we wait
Absolutely love the Proton plastic for some reason for the drivers if I’m not throwing Neutron. I GOT TO get that purple/pink Proton Timelapse you threw I loved that look!!! Thanks for all that you do Simon!!!
Simon!!! Drop the fission weight to 165 or so. It might affect your timing but the fission is supposed to shine at lower weights. I would love to see a 155g fission comparison too
Pretty much. the stability with fission is amazing. I have a 150g fission octane that just flips up and pushes like crazy. While it's 175 counter part is so stable, even compared to neutron octanes.
pretty much! Full weight fission has extra stability because of the higher ratio of weight in the rim. BUT you can go downweight a bit with fission without losing the ability to throw them in the wind to get that little extra flippiness with extra gyro power.
Love seeing you back! Just finished setting up my guitar, but got a truss rod issue, and had an existential crisis. But luckily I have something to watch now!!!
This is awesome content. Really helps to hear your thoughts, and this really illustrates why it makes sense to have less molds in different weights and plastics since they can fly so different.
Max weight fission is often the most stable cause added weight to the rims with the light weight flight plate. Love it, keep em coming! can't wait for the trail! Detour is great.
Fresh out of the gate, i find most 172+ fission discs to be among the most stable versions of that mold (Craves especially, heavy fissy Teslas as well). But they season in quickly. I feel like a sub 170 Time Lapse could be perfect. Love to hear the new Neutron blends are gummier 🤘🤘🤘
I agree. Max weight fission is much more stable than proton or neutron in the molds I’ve been able to try it in. I love my 174+ Hex and Envy. I use 152 and 166g fission Craves and a 172g cosmic neutron.
Hey Simon, I've been an acupuncture physician for 30 years and an avid disc golfer. Come on down to New Smyrna Beach, Fl and let's take care of those aches and pains. If not, find someone near you who knows what they are doing and get yourself tuned up!! Cheers and Guten Morgen!!
I had back pain that resulted in a herniated disc, took me out of disc golf for 5 months. Take it easy in disc golf, make putting videos, and strengthen your core! We need to see you out on tour!
Would be awesome to do a zoom interview with James Conrad to hear his thoughts on the Detour and Trail... and would be sick to see you just ask questions with the main MVP guys about insider development into all the new molds and plastics.
Thanks for the vid, been waiting for this. Interesting about the fission timelapse. What I've noticed about fission plastic is it needs one or two good tree hits to get into it's beat-in shape, and then it gets it's turn. Also interseting about the proton flying that way- I still throw proton defys and they fly with an almost identical shape, up to 350 for me.
Those protons look like cash man!!! The fission ones are supposed to be more understable so in the wind not so good. I would love to see the time-lapse in plasma plastic!!! I can't wait to see production runs of everything you have and the streamline glitch! 🎉🎉🎉
Fission tends to be very weight dependent Simon so I don’t think the masses will mind when they come out in 155-165g Should be a useful stability for us ams Also it is theorized that the pitch is a less stable glitch and parashute is a more stable one. Kinda comes through on camera be we don’t know the wind. Also it is apparent 1 speeds are just straight discs
ENGINEER here (to the rescue): Simon, the Fission plastic will be the most STABLE (given the same weight and dimensions of the disc). Meaning, it is most resistant to turning (hyzer or anhyzer). That is the Gyro Effect. The Gyro effect is simply more rotational inertia, meaning resistance to turning on the axis of rotation. Generally, straighter flights.
@@MaximilianBerkmann Sure, but colloquially in Disc Golf calling a disc 'stable' is calling it overstable.
