I understand both of these arguments, but one is wrong. The people who were closest to Patrice when he died are not special. It's not like he had some big family he was supporting with his ultra-successful comedy career and then died tragically and unexpectedly. I've always loved Patrice, but the dude was proudly self-centered and shitty to anyone he saw as beneath him. The guy made his choices in life and most of those choices are what caused him to be a struggling artist instead of as successful as he could have been. He alienated and angered a lot of people that could have advanced his career. He could have been way more famous and successful if he had just played ball every once in a while. I don't understand why his family then deserves financial compensation for the rest of their lives based on nostalgia and charity.
