Once I found that comment, I connected my kindle to my Mac to try the command but it turned right on and started charging. I didn’t even have to do anything else so you might just want to try that. Hi Christine, I don't have Windows to test, however, a quick search recommended the following steps: Step 1. In the File/Folder Explorer, add the option by going to VIEW>SHOW/HIDE and checking the box next to File Name Extensions. This will make sure that when you rename the filename it will also include the file extension within the name. Step 2. Create a .txt file using Notepad and name it DO_FACTORY_RESTORE . Step 3. Press F2 to edit the name. Remove '.txt' part from the name and hit enter. It may trigger a prompt that the file will be without extension; confirm it. Hope this helps.
Thankyou for all the advice but none of them worked, but this did if people are willing to attempt easy to do. 1- split the casing away from the front screen 2 - unscrew all the screws you can see 3 - pop the screen away from the casing from the back 4 - disconnect the battery lead 5 - wait 5 minutes 6 - the screen will still have the frozen page on it with the battery disconnected 7 - attach the battery clip together 8 - reassemble back in reverse order 9 - restart your kindle as normal
my paperwhite signature edition has been stuck on the tree screen since july and it is september, i cannot get it to reset via holding the button, connecting to pc doesn't dhow device, i have drained the battery to 0, and i've disconnected the battery
@@kitsunetailsx9 So soft reset whether while charging or not; did not work. If the device is not recognized by PC it's hard to give you any further troubleshooting steps. How old is it? Have you contacted Amazon support to see if there's anything they can suggest?

All I know is that the factory rerset option is not available. I tried the do_factory_restore plan, but my computer will not recognize the kindle when I hook it up. I tried it on two different PC's. Any suggestions on how we can factory reset these devices?

Reading in the Amazon help page it says that it is due to incorrect Hour, but there is no human way to update hour if I don't perform the initial login. Any idea?

Soft reboot doesn't help - it's always stuck on the screen saver in the end. I would like to make a factory restore with my windows pc. When I connect the kindle to my pc, I can see it in the device manager - drive e - but I can't open it to see files (don't know how to describe it better). How do I put the do_factory_restore document into my kindle device? Can you help me please?

My battery got tested on Amazon, and it said that it was fine, but every time I take the charger off, the battery just goes to zero, and cannot start it up, have tried all steps, nothing helps
Hi Paul, how did they test the device? Where they not able to see the battery not holding charge? Does it turn off immediately when you take it off the charge or you see the battery holds it for few minutes before going caput? Also, any warranty on the device?

Thankyou for all the advice but none of them worked, but this did if people are willing to attempt easy to do.

Does it charge? Also, is the device recognised when connected to PC?
