  • A General Electric branded Cool Star light model 45770. I have no idea what the intended purpose of this light is and have never seen another one before. It utilizes a 38 watts General Electric 2-D compact fluorescent light bulb. I suspect the 'incandescent equivalency' is somewhere around 100-150 watts. It looks to be around 4,000K in color temperature.

These are actually called the Cool Star and were intended to be a worklight. I think “Cool Star” is referring to the fact that they run cooler than an equivalent halogen worklight. The thing on the back is a cord wrap. The 38W 2D bulb is equivalent to a 150W incandescent bulb. “835” in the lamp model number indicates that it uses a 3500K, 82 CRI triphosphor coating. “Class P” means that the ballast has an automatically-resetting thermal protector, which has been standard in ballasts for decades. The reason you see little to no banding is because it’s a high-frequency electronic ballast. When a fluorescent lamp runs at such a high frequency (tens of thousands of hertz), the phosphor cannot glow down in between cycles, so the result is a completely steady light.

It has a 835 color code, so it has 3500 kelvin and a CRI of 80.

Nice checkout of this Cool Star Light Jordan. To me, this looks like some sort of work light that may be used in a work area basing it on the hooks in the back and the handle on the top of this light. Certainly an interesting piece.

The bulb is common in bathroom fixtures in the UK and Australia.

yep, we have a lot of double D fixtures here in new Zealand. in fact there is one in the bathroom of the hospital i am currently "trapped" in. it is extremely blink happy. there are serval more in another room that i sometimes check on in my nightly jailbreak prowls around the complex that i get up to when there are no R.N's breathing down my neck. one of them has a jammed igniter (starter if you don't live where i do) , another flickers at EOL and the other two work. the second one of the working two has an LED retrofit lamp in it ( a square panel of aluminum with a row of LED's in a double D lamp shape. i really like the shape of these lamps. it's a really happy looking shape IFKWIM.
