I just gave it a shot against the Wolf (2000 Gold) and let me tell you, it was absolutely hilarious. 30 of my slaves burned his castle to a crisp, then my pikemen and monks roflstomped him. He didn't get even one attack in before the end, just some 5 horse archers in between. I'd say the more advanced lords are actually easier to deal with because they take so long to build up their castle.
On the contrary, I think the Rat is one of the most difficult opponents for this challenge. He attacks almost immediately, destroys the economy (already weak), he doesnt spend money on building a hard castle and expensive units for protection
Emir is probably the hardest to deal with in a game like this, afterall his first attack is pretty quick and sends arab swordsmen which your lord cannot beat alone, the wolf takes a long time to get his castle up and running though...so if you can beat him in a normal game, this won't be much different. And the Caliph is easy too, his first attacks are mostly just slaves, easy kills for the lord.
Funnily enough, in spite of being the weakest lord in the game, Rat might not be the easiest for this challenge. Simply because his set-up is so minimalist and cheap that it makes him one of the earliest attackers in the game and the fundamental bottleneck without ressources is time.
That is why when I first started playing Stronghold Crusader I was getting rekt by Rat, the "easiest" enemy so I decided to try against Wolf, the "hardest". Turns out it was easier to fight Wolf because he spends an eternity building his castle which also gave me enough time to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing haha.
The way you play is so good man. I actually showed to a cousin of mine a video of you playing mission 25 (The Forgotten) so he could get an idea of what to do, plus some extra advice from me on how to manage his economy a bit more efficiently, and he destroyed them quickly!

You could've immediately put tax to max after starting challenge, even at 0 popularity you will have 4 peasants who will make you 8 monthly gold at highest tax rate, meaning with a woodcutter you will have 3 left standing around, spend your first wood on a mercenary camp and get some slingers to start with, they have less range than archers but if you micro them they're an amazing unit. Easier start than what you did in the video.

I conducted an experiment under the same conditions with all 8 classic persons and I would distribute the difficult as follows: Saladin>Wolf>Richard>Caliph>Pig>Snake>Rat>Sultan. Saladin is difficult of mounted archers, Wolf and Richard are with heavy-armored units, Caliph and Snake are with slaves
Heya Jeff, have you done a video on the various variations of AI lords? I always found it very interesting to play skirmish mode, but I'd add like 7 of the same AI and see how the castles vary!
Rat has a super cheap castle and super chesp troups. Against other lords you will have more time to prepare and therefore don't need to rely so heavily on your lord as your only unit.
Don’t worry about playing rat. I’m sure if you ask most people who decide they wanna play crusader I bet the majority pick him to fight against in a casual game
Not sure about that, quite frankly. Rat is a bit boring to play against. My guess would be more along the lines of Pig or Richard the Lionheart. Not difficult but also not a free win.

Click on a building for producing troops and then press a number on your keyboard. A green flag will appear and you just left-click it where you want that specific type of troops to gather.
Challenge: protect the rats
You have to keep 3 rats alive (on same team) from 3 wolves. If a rat dies you fail the mission
Rat can defeat a wolf when protected. As stupidly as it sounds, wolf economy is not able to deal with waves of spearmen

If you don't have any woodcutters and not enough wood to make one, the first woodcutter will become free!
It is always nice to see when devs take the extra step to avoid softlocking yourself because you fucked up.

Going below 4 peasants instantly resets happiness to 75 so you don't get softlocked

Probably less agreasive lords should be easier to deal , like Wolf or Aladyn before they end building cassles

I think it's B to go to barracks, then press shift + number key to select a rally point for each type of troop.

for Crusader its tuff, but for Stronghold 1 it just feels like every single mission level
You can mod the starting resources. Check out the "unofficial crusader patch". With that you can do it.
