Now that would help me relax at my desk. The soothing sounds of a desk grenade waiting to explode😂

I’ve always wanted a 2000rpm desk toy thank recommendations
Its a nice desk toy to help you concentrate
I love the breaking Benjamin symbol, saw those guys live and I was crowdsurfing in the pit!
2:05 Moment RPM matches camera shutter speed. Looked like the rod stood still then started going backwards, even though it was still increasing speed
So complex yet it looks so simple

this is complex???!?

+plant man well.....how is that working?
Beautiful machine.
Is this how thermal power plants use engines to create electricity? If not, this could be pretty useful and efficient
Okay RUclips recommended, I finally watched it.
unbelievable beautiful 👨🔬
The second it started spinning I was like, this is not nearly as cool as I thought it would be. Lol
Not annoying at all for a office desk
If anyone wants to try to 3D print this, don't. It reaches a speed where it looks like it's barely even moving, because a video is just a bunch of pictures taken and replayed in rapid succession, and the speed the piston moves gets so close to the speed (in frames per second) of the camera it looks like it's barely even moving.
that is really amazing tech mate
Can this be modified to a pencil sharpener
Insane idea
Yes it can.
Just attach the big end bearing to the back of a desk sharpner and the rules of engagement are the same
Or y know just buy an electric pencil sharpner it would be more cost effective
I think we need a V8 version for that purpose, you know, because V8
Pretty near little desk engine. Now you need to get a mini engine dyno to test the power she puts out lol.
Now put a little fan on the crankshaft for when it gets hot outside.
Thats one fast vibrator. Girls gonna love it.

It would be cool if we could harness the energy from an magnified version of this toy.

Engines are such beautiful things.
Girl: My parents aren't home
Me: **running 2000rpm**
you cant run at 2000 rpm. rpm means revolutions per minute a revolution means turn so unless you were circling something at 2000 rpm its not possible to run at any rpm
i can promise you my legs run over 2000 rpm

3Ddee - desk toy in title, vtech works too 🙂
Nah man it's a rotary
2:04 Love how it moves so fast that the frame rate barely shows any movement. Then, for a second, it almost looks like it stopped moving.
Actually the machine only has to do 60 revolutions a second (if the refresh rate of the camera is 60 fps) minimum to get the effect working. From there on it is just multiples of 60 eg 120 180 160 rpm. the only reason you see that speed the clearest is because the machine is actually plateauing out at its maximum angular velocity. It is cool because you can easily find out roughly how fast a car is moving just by looking at its tires.
About frame rate
@@add859tankionline its not exactly fps, it's the frequency of the camera shutter (I think not sure, you might be correct) but with cars this wil only work of it's on video or if it's in the dark and there is a lamp emitting light to it with a selected alternating current. The human eye doesn't see frames, it sees a fluent motion (or an extremely high amount of frames). That's why we don't see this in daylight but only on video or if - what I said earlier - a lamp with alternating current is putting out light towards the spinning object
Edit: what you said about revolutions is correct, any amount of revolutions works as long as the shutter frequency is a multiple of the revolutions. Since this is speeding up it will get closer to that frequency and then start to go over that aswell. That's why it looks like it's spinning forward, stops, and then spins backwards.
@@tobiasver7687 yes you are completely correct. I was a bit slack and the technical information. Just one question. Are we biologically engineered to see flickering light as a solid beam of light. Or do we learn it during the first few months of birth? Because there was no real need for our brain to process much on the visible sense in our primative stages.
@@add859tankionline I'm pretty sure we are built like that, or our brain rather. For example: we hear a lot more and I mean a lot more than we "actually" hear. Our brain filters alot of the unnecessary sounds out because without that filtering it would get too clustered and we would go insane. I think the same thing happens with light. When something is flickering fast enough we see the flickers but our brain help us to make it a bit less messy. It does this with a lot of things, like feeling. We feel alot more than we actually notice. Our brain tries to help us live an easy life. When you lay in bed at night and you won't fall asleep you might notice getting some tickles here and there. Turning around because you're not in a nice position. Especially the tickles are a great example of the what the brain is trying to do. It tries to check whether you're actually asleep by sending out these tests. If you ignore them it knows you aren't awake and it can go to rest. Very fascinating
Id use it to button mash
jefry 700 that’s a good idea

At the end bit of the glass where it’s open, spray WD40 inside and you’ll probably get another 4k revs out of it. The WD40 thins the air inside the vacuum tube and therefore there’s less resistance for the piston inside. When I had mine it works and it was insane.
Let's put petroleum derivates inside a tube that is in direct contact with fire, what could possibly go wrong?
@@somedude2492
Yeah it might cause an explosion. 9/11 all over again
@@somedude2492 the outside of the tube was in direct contact with fire. He said to spray it inside. Depending on quantity and method, yes it could spray onto the flame too, but that's still outside the tube. The "open" end of the tube is pretty much far away from that flame.
Facts
I sprayed WD40 inside my ear and my IQ went up by 20%.
@@somedude2492 Say "I've literally never actually TRIED to do anything cool in my life" without saying it.
I feel like you could attach a dynamo on that thing, not a heavy one mind, and power a small light or (try) to charge your phone.
Celeron Saiyan or even a fan
That would be cool
Sadly the levels of power output vs. power input that we're comparing here are different by a couple of magnitudes. There's a reason real engines are huge, burn hot and use a lot of fuel.
Jonathan Mayer Stirling engines can be really useful, the Swedish navy has designed a submarine with a sterling engine instead of a Otto engine and because of that the submarine is a lot harder to detect. Because it generates less sound since a sterling engine just burns the fuel and a Otto engine works with small explosions.
Yes I've heard, quite ingenious. And I totally understand your point that this engine design does have its uses, I was just being a bit smart in saying this scale is incapable of being anything more than a toy.

Shitstirrer They are materials out there way more dense and heavy than steel, although more expensive
Zu'u Agos like feathers
Shitstirrer , mine is made from aluminum and Stainless Steel with four little rubber foot pads on the bottom and it still vibrates, oh yeah, mine has a belt drive running a battery powered electric motor like a generator making a LED light blink in 3 different colors, it's called a sterling engine, I seen one even run off of a magnifying glass from the Sun heating up the little glass tube cylinder
What about attaching either some propellers on it or sand paper?

Finally! An effective way to rip out my hair!
2000rpm is quite powerful, but that's without putting load on the engine. An engine that small can't handle much load, I guess that's why it's a desk toy.
Robert Birtch I wonder if you put a pencil sharpener on the flywheel
if you link a few up and gear them for torque you could do someting with it.
Gorrest Fump but then it would be to slow for any real torque
The Stirling engine is still in use. In fact a Swedish sub, powered by a diesel stirling engine, was stealthy enough to sink the USS Ronald Reagan in multiple wargames for two years.
*-Insert finger while its spinning-*
Beautiful little machine and I especially love the stroboscopic effect of the piston and the wheel when it's speeding up. Very cool video ;)
Martin de Boutray can u explain the concept? How heat is helping it's motion to continue?
Dinesh Singh it's a Stirling engine
2:06 exact multiple
Simplified: Heat causes the air inside the tube to expand, which forces the piston forwards.
Man you need to hook that up to a rc plane 3 phase electric motor and a electric bicke convert er to 12 v hook up big 12v battery bank then hook up huge 10000 watt inverter just for back up generator.
Jorge Garza the moving fly wheel would knock the plane out of the air even of it coumd possibly ever fly
