- Hi guys! Welcome to episode 41 (redo) of learn that solo! Today we’ll look at the solo from ‘Cowboys From Hell’ by Pantera.
Tuning: E A D G B E (Standard 1/4 flat)
Classic and delightful solo… However it has some massive stretches. Be sure to warm up your hands before tackling those stretches and playing this beast of a solo!

Because it's hilarious.
He tuned to 440hz on the first 5 albums for some reason (metal magic thru CFH)
If he was at 440hz then Dime wouldn't be tuned to somewhere in between E and D#

yeah im finding it equally difficult.. I might just resort to tapping it out. As long as it's going to hit the right notes and sound good it should be fine
Try changing your grip a little that taco shape works honestly but if you have small hands it may not be as effective. Great solo and great tutorial

Just a little pointer.. on the 11,12,15 run only the fist 3 notes on each string are picked.. the other 3 are hammer ons.. gives it that smooth run... his pick hand and fret hand was incredible
Thanks for pointing that out! I was kinda struggling to make sound fluid and couldn't figure out why, thought he was playing really fast but this cleared it up xD I should've scrolled down to the comments sooner.
Honestly that descending lick super streach is un neseceraly hard. I just play it with 2 strings to make it easy. No one can tell 😅

To make Dime's tuning easy, set your tuner to 425 hz, then tune standard.

Hard to watch. Everything is so much easier, and possible to play, when sitting down with the guitar up around the neck. You gotta be able to stand up and play. I haven’t learned anything sitting down in years. Just a waste. Stand up and shout!

Hey, tapping isn’t cheating if the person can do it standing up in a heavy metal position. Much better than cheating by sitting down with the guitar up around the neck. 😂🤣
This is pretty much impossible to do for me but I'm going to attempt it. I doubt my small hands can do the stretches.

It always amazes me how truly awful individual licks of some solos sound when isolated and slowed down, yet somehow sound like technical marvels at speed.
Dime liked them pinky slides but I'm human pinky slides are a pain in the ass for me Dime wasn't human he was a damn beast on the guitar one of the greatest metal guitaist in the world.

If u listen closely to the first ascending scale, I think u'll hear that all the notes aren't picked on the album.
