However if the “ll” is in the middle of a word like calle or pasilla, I’m not sure if you are pronouncing it as an English J or an English Y. Any help here is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Hola ^^ You can use both, it depends on emphasis and if it's at the beginning of the middle of the word like you just mentioned :) They are called ''fonemas' which basically means 'stuff can be pronounced differently' It also depends which region the speaker is from. But basically it's like you said, like a English 'J' with emphasis and at the beginning of a word, and more like a flowing English 'Y' in the middle, like paella. But you can stress the LL and pronounce it like a 'J' as well, yet the 'softer, rolling, flowing one' is used more.
