I bought the stove and kit two weeks ago and here's what I found: I used it on a flat bench but the pot with 500 ml of water is a little tipsy and had a tendency to slide off the stove. What I did was prop the handles against the back rest of the bench. It would not be hard for your water or food to spill on an uneven surface, like when you hike . Not only would you lose your meal but you could get burned. Other users have reported this problem. The legs of the stove do not seem as solid as those of the SOTO Amicus. The nice feature is that you can stow the stove in it's little pocket underneath the fuel can. As for the windscreen it works well with 5-10 mph winds; anything stronger and you will need one of those inexpensive aluminum shields for backup.
FYI.. when you pack the system into the storage bag. Place the windscreen around the outside of the pot and not inside the pot. Then you won't scratch the Teflon surface of the pot.
Up date: Bought it last night xx the WEEKEND HE kit. Super excited about it 👏👍! Enjoyed your review. I learned a lot about the CRUX and especially about how its windscreen works and packs with it. I have made the decision that I will be buying that kit and its extra addons. It will be my 1st ever canister stove as I am (will continue to be) a devoted Trangia fan. That said, there are times when a canister stove is called for rather than the uncontained Trangia flame, especially during fire bans. I also like the sut free cooking of a canister stove for easy cleanups. I have looked at the Pocket Rocket 2 but it is so loud! The CRUX really shines in the softer sound category, a huge plus to me. I have 2 of the newer STANLEY Adventure Series Bowl And Spork Compact Cook Sets and I believe they, too, will work well on the CRUX. Well then, I think I'm pretty well set for coffee and a mealtime while fishing/boating all day or any overnights if the fish are biting really hard and often 😉👍. Thanks for the great review. You got me moved off the fence and moving forward to purchasing the CRUX Weekend Cook Set!
Thank you for your review and great scenery! I've been serching for my first cookset for my backpacking for a long time. THere are too many to choose- toaks, msr, esbit, snow peak... but I made a decision now. I'm going to buy this stuff! Thanks!
I just used my Optimus Crux Burner with my Primus Eta 1L pot with 2 cups of water. It was -14C and it gave steam very quickly, under a minute. Two minutes maybe less, a rolling boil. I do like that burner pot combination.
The windshield goes on the outside of the pot when you pack it other then that its a great stove and i love mine. I actually pack my Optimus Polaris in the cook ser instead of the gas stove and it fits.
it seems like a great little kit and the clip on wind screen is a very nice touch seeing as most stoves like this leave you with options of dangerous or none otherwise. my only gripe about the system would be my preference of remote canister/ liquid fuel stoves because of the advantages they have in colder climates (me living up north) and their lower and wider footprint making them (and your meal) more stable.
I like the windscreen and the lighter, and I guess the burner is nice (but there's just so much stuff you can get from the far east). For pots, I avoid both aluminium and plastic coatings. For coffee, I really don't mind eating some grinds, but I use a tea filter at home.
Great video. You should never say over and out. It makes no sense. When you say 'over' on a radio that means you're waiting for a reply. When you say 'out' on a radio, that means you are finished and expecting no reply. So, 'over and out' is absolutely an incorrect way of signing off. If you were finished, all's you would say is 'out'. JS. God bless, love from Philly.
I prefer the stoves made by Soto like the Amicus and the Windmaster. Japanese technology...think Lexus, Acura, and Infinity! The Soto Amicus is half the price, even when you purchase the cookset like I did. I could go through a list of reasons why the Soto products are better, like four legged pot stand, instead of three, but you can do your own research. By the way, the heat exchanger does little or nothing according to testing by Hiking Jim. Check out Stovin with Hiking Jum.
Hi have the SOTO muka liquid stove and i love it! About three or four legged stands i actually find the threelegged easiest to get a good stand out in the nature when the ground is not flat..
I bought mine in 2004. 18 years of cycle touring, motorcycle trips, backpacking and canoeing. Still works as well now as it did when I got it. 👍👍👍
You have the best outdoor scenery in your reviews. Glad to see you're still putting out honest and quality reviews for us to see. Thanks!

I love a good review with a breathtaking background view. Great job and very descriptive..told me everything I wanted to know.

Great review, thanks. Just bought one of these. Fills my purpose - usually boiling some simple noodles in the local mountains, perfectly.
Perfect.

Very descriptive review. Very helpful in helping me decide what I should get for solo bikepacking this summer
Great video, great lake and mountain. Thanks
I bought this and watched your video on set up. 👍
Awesome vid and especially awesome landscape 😍😍 greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

What have you made besides coffee with this cook set?

Hello. Thanks for the review! I may pick one up. I like your watch - what kind is it?
Best review for the Optimus Crux.
Hey my friend! Awesome review! Thanks so much for sharing and stay Blessed!
I use the Optimus Terra HE with pocket Rocket 2 and it boils 1 cup in under 1 minute! I should get the windscreen!
More coffee related camping gear please.
What watch are you wearing, like the simplicity of it.

For pots, I avoid both aluminium and plastic coatings. For coffee, I really don't mind eating some grinds, but I use a tea filter at home.
I avoid Teflon and similar plastic coatings in heatable food containers too. This is the only thing that stops me from purchasing this cook-set.
Great review, perfect setting
Will 500 gram gas canister fit inside ?
the coffee was "steeping" not percolating. still, nice review.
How long would a pot like this last?
Decades.
Good review! Who makes your watch? Thanks, praise god.
Great review!

That’s a valid point! Never thought of it that deeply. Thank you.
Nice review, God bless
Trangia, Primus and Optimus are all Swedish companies, hence some similarities 😀
