Even with the GPS added back, I'm sticking with DJI. The form factor, lighter weight, and that awesome ecosystem mic connection are things you just don't find in other cameras. Thanks for the review
Thanks for pointing out the Hero 13 still has very good video quality and EIS in normal daylight conditions. So many only judge it based on its low-light performance. Great 30 day review, thanks for sharing.
Well said! I've had enough of people whinging and complaining about minor updates. Things like Action Cameras, Smartphones, Laptops etc. aren't aimed at people expecting to upgrade from the last model. If you have a GoPro 10, 11 or 12, you really don't need to upgrade unless there's a specific feature on the 13 you need. I'm still using a 10 and I only upgraded from the 7 because I wanted the Horizon Lock feature. New products are aimed at either newbies coming into the market, people replacing lost/damaged items or replacing products a few years old. Unless you're reviewing it or it's part of your job, you're only going from an iPhone 15 to an iPhone 16 or 2023 MacBook to a 2024 MacBook or a GoPro 12 to a 13 to show off!
I've run a bunch of tests myself and found that Osmo Action cameras get the auto white balance way better. Having accurate AWB is crucial since I can't be tweaking settings all the time. I think it's because of that color temperature sensor on the front. It's interesting how one company goes all-in on accessories, while another focuses on making the camera better.
100% the DJI camera does a better job. I’ve talked about this in past reviews. Mainly due to its color temperature sensor built into the front of the Osmo Action. Get it accurate every time and help helps prevent color shifting as the lighting changes.
After seeing all of the reviews, I opted to change from GoPro (11) to the DJI Action 5 pro, and I'm really pleased. With all the great competition from DJI and Insta360, GoPro are in danger of being left behind.
Great video. What are the settings you normally use when you are riding bike in and out of the forest? If you can share. The funny thing about the night comparison it is clear DJI shows better image, no doubt about it. But GoPro even graine image show the real night which is a dark sky not as the DJI the night at the background is blue.. What do you think about it?
Question - What is the fascination with the magnetic mount that people have? I recorded a time-lapse with the suction cup on the windshield, when I got out the car I popped the buckle from the suction cup and slid it on my 3-way 2.0 and kept walking. To undo the buckle I just flip up the safety flap and pop it off. It takes 5 second less to do that. Its not like the old days of unscrewing from one mount then lining up the holes to screw it on another mount. What am I missing. And thanks for the video. I have the 13 in my cart but with new batteries and charger its $500 US, so I just keep looking at it. I am not sure it worth the upgrade from an 11. Thanks as always.
Thanks very much for the review We enjoy your content as we grow in knowledge. We have an old go pro 8. Looking to upgrade, this may be an option Will keep following
How much do the ND-Filters affect stabilization in Hero 13? My Hero 9 and 11 need at least 4-times the shutterspeed or minimum 1/200 s if you want to use hypersmooth in any form and see a tiny bit of motion blur. And there are still jitters from high frequency vibrations as on a motorcycle (onroad). So motion blur and staedy footage ist a but of gamble.
I do think that the GoPro is a good camera. Some people do like to own the latest version of everything. I only purchased my first GoPro camera a few months ago, and I purchased the Hero 10 black. For the moment it does what I want an action camera to do, so no necessity to upgrade for more fearures. However, I do have one con, and unless GoPro changes in the future how the battery compartment opens (not a good design for anyone that has problems with their fingers) , I will probably not be upgrading to a future version.
I still have not upgraded from the Hero-10-Black (with a Hero-9 Black for an emergency back-up) I will probably upgrade next year though. Hopefully, then I will feel the it will be worth the cost. Thanks for all your work on the channel.
That sounds like a logical maneuver. I’m really hoping for some big things next year. We should see a upgraded chip at minimum which will allow for a lot more advanced features.
It’s not out of stock, it’s got a huge design flaw and they stopped production of it until they fix it. He’s not going to do a 30 day review of the Ace 2 because he can’t.

I've had a GoPro 8 for 2 years and have yet to be able to record an entire video with it.. after recording for just a few minutes the camera shuts itself off It will not turn back on for 10 or 15 minutes.. I've done a lot of research and found out that this is a very common problem with the 8 but GoPro will not do anything about it.. does this camera do anything like that? When I record I push the record button and record for just a few seconds then push the record button again to stop it... I will move my stand a couple of feet push the record button and record for a few seconds and then push the record button again to stop it... This is what I do for hours... I never press record and let it run for a very long time... Do you think the 12 can handle it?
Purchased and returned, unfortunately. GoPro does have best daylight image, imo. HB lenses are cool in concept, and auto settings work well, but inconvenient to carry, stop and install. My sports are skiing, hiking, run, bike & swim. Travel and activity often start in the low light AM. I need one camera for the day. Hoping to come back to GoPro for the 14, with new sensor and useable low light.
Iv had gopro every year since 2020.. didnt like direction of 13 so got acepro 2... its great in low light, however for life of me had it over a week now & still dont know how to acsess lock horizen, without that feature the action selfie or first person shots are shit
I just sold both my GoPro 12s to get a GoPro 13 and I couldn’t be more disappointed. I use anamorphics almost 100% of the time, so the new, GoPro supported anamorphic is very (very) important to me as is HDR HLG. That said, I only plan to get one GoPro 13 because it’s honestly a disappointment; the low-light performance is unusable, the lack of front touchscreen is a big miss, so I anticipate the GoPro 14 resolving these problems, otherwise GoPro is going to be in real trouble. Moreover, coming from the GoPro 12s, it’s beyond frustrating to know I had the same GP2 chipset but couldn’t get HDR HLG, I need to get new batteries despite 5.3K 30fps only getting 6-minutes additional recording time, and the anamorphic lens could have been made to be compatible but wasn’t.
You reviewers are all the same; gripe about how there aren’t so many upgrades this time. The Hero black is a good camera and so what if it’s not a big bump from the 12?
I did state that in my review that I’m OK with the upgrade cycle every two or three years. The reason why it gets brought up in these videos is to help those who are thinking, or trying to decide whether they should upgrade or not. It’s not complaining just providing information.

Osmo Action 5 Pro low light footage is in a league of its own.

I’m really happy with my Action 5 Pro as well
Im thinking about the gopro 13 or the dji pro 5, I like the daytime footage on the gopro the best but I am not paying full price for it .
