Consistent exercise that engages brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is essentially a legitimate neurological repair strategy for many alcoholics determined to stay sober. When in doubt, move around-it's very important. Counting each sober day in sedentary boredom is not the way; instead, establishing a deep, structured sober lifestyle with stimulating rituals and soulful expressions will lead to greater success. Continuously carve out and design your daily regimen, ensuring that neither work nor primary obligations monopolize your entire day, leaving binge entertainment as the sole free-time filler. Prioritize interactive and constructive tasks over passive consumption. Often, we can multitask by listening to something educational (which is very stimulating) while engaging in a creative or productive activity. Some people crave stimulation and tend to get more energized than usual with alcohol - harness that fuel in meaningful sober aspirational endeavors that tap into something more expressive and personal.

I wish I had the willpower to overcome the use of beer to stop me feeling streesed or down.

If you have a strong reason WHY, then you will get the motivation and determination you need. Get really clear on why you want to be alcohol-free, the stronger your why, the easier you will find it.

At the age of 13 or 14, no one would have the maturity to try and consider why they were feeling a certain way... you're just too young... Couple that with a household with a lot of alcohol that's been openly consumed by parents and normalized, and it's a recipe for a young teen to to self medicate.
