My dad just passed away on May 26th. He was 91 and a veteran of 3 wars, (he lied about his age and joined the Marines when he was 16). We lived in Georgia and used to take fishing trips to South Carolina when I was young and I would sing this song on the way, and one day he looked over at me and asked "who sings that" and I replied James Taylor, and he said "well please let him sing it" and we both had quite a laugh. I'm an old man of 61 now, and I miss my dad, but in my mind I'm going to Carolina around 1974.
Everything these two cover is just magic ! They have the most natural way of being in the song and totally making it their own . Honestly I haven't been this captured by performing artists in quite some time ! Beautiful just beautiful .
We danced to this today. 26 years later we still hold one another with hope, love, and kindness as we turn in the kitchen. This song always causes him to come and ask for a dance. Thank you for that moment.
This song hits home so much. A beautiful redition. My Dad told me once while we were having a couple beers, "I used to put on James Taylor and drive you around the neighborhood and you'd be passed right out" we've gone to North Carolina for at least ten family vacations and this song definitely reminds me of my dad. I'm 100% going to hug him tomorrow and he'll think it's strange but I know my time with him is short and I'm not going to care if it's weird. Music really touches the soul and you guys did a great cover of this.
I came across this song when I was at my lowest, never had I ever fallen so low in my entire existence. However, today it's a different story. I have managed to pull my self up one day at a time and as I listen to you gys sing I was just hit with this amazing realization that I survived. wasn't easy but I am glad to be alive and listen to you two. If that ain't a blessing, I don't know what is. :) Thank you.
Going to Carolina in my mind is an analogy to everything. Going to get through this painful moment in my life to be happy in whatever comes down my future. Going to see my daughter or son once they come back to me. Going to heaven to finally be at peace, to join my family to see those I once loved. Going to Carolina is transcendent and taps into an eternal musical road that leads to a place where we all desire to reach. James Taylor was a conduit of a whisper of God's voice and these young artists were able to capture that beauty giving us another rendition of the beauty the universe is offering us. Thank you for being such great artists and reminding us that we're all trying to reach Carolina in our own way.
I even loved the foot tapping that was going on during the recording. It's the little things like that that allow you to feel as much as hear the music.
Don't think so, cause as much that the sounds are great of this cover, you can hardly say, that they are telling a personal story. And that is the point for this kind of songs. This is just a empty song trying to make it sounds so beautiful in harmonies, etc..
@@risumotus Of all the overtly empty music out there, why hate on these guys? They are both incredibly talented and could be adding so much unnecessary fluff to appeal to casual listeners for attention and views, but instead they keep things simple, subtle, and even their rig and post production is modest. She literally held the same chord the entire song to prevent diluting the melody, and quietly harmonized vocally instead of showing off her vocal range.
This feels like a warm golden ray of sunshine falling through autumn tree leaves and into my bedroom window to rest on my face and save whatever part of my day was left. Thank you.
I love you two... you give the most beautiful, sensitive, paired back interpretations of wonderful classics. Nothing over-cooked and not a show-off amongst you ... just stunning musicians making stunning music. Thank you
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina Can't you see the sunshine Can't you just feel the moonshine Ain't it just like a friend of mine It hit me from behind Yes I'm gone to Carolina in my mind Karen she's a silver sun You best walk her way and watch it shinin' Watch her watch the mornin' come A silver tear appearing now I'm cryin' ain't I Gone to Carolina in my mind There ain't no doubt it no ones mind That loves the finest thing around Whisper something soft and kind And hey babe the sky's on fire, I'm dyin' ain't I Gone to Carolina in my mind In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina Can't you see the sunshine Can't you just feel the moonshine Ain't it just like a friend of mine It hit me from behind Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind Dark and silent late last night I think I might have heard the highway calling Geese in flight and dogs that bite Signs that might be omens say I going, going I'm gone to Carolina in my mind With a holy host of others standing around me Still I'm on the dark side of the moon And it seems like it goes on like this forever You must forgive me If I'm up and gone to Carolina in my mind In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina Can't you see the sunshine Can't you just feel the moonshine Ain't it just like a friend of mine It hit me from behind Yes I'm gone to Carolina in my mind Gone to Carolina in my mind Then I'm on to Carolina in my mind Gone to Carolina in my mind Gone - I'm gone - I'm gone Say nice things about me 'Cause I'm gone south Carry on without me 'Cause I'm gone
Brings me back to when I wasc15 and such a Dreamer..Just was always wanting to GO Somewhere..Get out of that sleepy town of mine..I'm 57 today and settled down..too bad my life has not been lived as a Traveler..just didnt turn out that way! Always Love James Taylor and Yall did a Sweet Job..Thank You so much
This song has always brought a tear to my eye. James Taylor wrote this song while he was overseas recording for the Beatles. He got homesick and wrote this song about his memories of growing up in North Carolina. To me, this is one of the greatest songs ever written.
James Taylor was one of the first wave of artists I saw live, and he played at the first festival I attended . I think it was 1971, sixteen years of age . Went with a lady who was friend of my sister's, so three years or so older than me . My parents thought I was just camping with friends in the local woods. Sister went batshit when she found out where I had been and who with . Travelled most of the way by homemade cross between a canoe and a punt cobbled from plywood, epoxy resin, offcut ribbing and strakes, and varnished over glue and peg jointing . Walked the rest, and pulled the 'boat' along on a jerry-rigged trolley made from pram wheels that dismantled for stowing.. Your beautiful cover triggered some very beautiful memories for me ... Thankyou.
Paused before the vocal even started to say: 1. I love the sounds of the red wing blackbirds and other nature in the background. Makes me miss home (though not Carolina) 2. The guitar work is fantastic and now I'll spend my evening playing. Adding a third after resuming the video: vocal performance was perfectly matched to the intention of the song and the volume of the instruments. So refreshing to hear people that don't shout over their guitars or drown themselves with sloppy strumming. A delightful rendition!
I will never be able to listen to James Taylor without getting teary eyed. It was my escape music growing up, put me in another place, a better place. Why at 46 with an amazing life it still makes me the same way I’m not sure. Beautifully done
I'm not a big James Taylor fan. However, you and Sierra perform the song with such tenderness, it gives the song a different vibe to me. I love it. The birds in the background just add to the experience. Great job.
Not a James Taylor fan? Fire and Rain? Carolina in my Mind? Sweet Baby James? What person who likes modern music isn't a James Taylor fan? My brain needs a Ctrl-Alt-Del after such nonsense. ;-)
I was so into your voices that after 11th time I started to hear birds...beautiful everything..intimacy, atmosphere..calm...peaceful..heart to heart 💓 thank you 🙏
I’ve said it before, but I love your duets. Your harmonies are magic and you blend so well together. I wish I could convince my brother to sing with me even just in the car. You seem like such sweet siblings.
This is pure music, wonderfully harmonizing voices accompanied by one (or two) guitars. A beautiful melody and a heartrending song, thank you very much. And many greetings from Germany 👏🤗🙋♂️
Well done! Have loved this song since getting the album (JT's first) over 50 years ago. And glad that a whole new generation is drawn to it. Thank you both.
listening to you guys brings me so much peace. I really appreciate the tender moments you share with us and it really helps me spending time quietly listening to the beautiful music yall make together.
Chase and Sierra what a beautiful song sung beautifully this is music for the heart and soul I could close my eyes and just listened to your music all night so calming beautiful voices and you're amazingly talented artist 😀 love from Ireland
Beautiful cover of one of my all time favorites. Absolutely nailed it! The birds singing in the background add a kind of depth to the song. Love when you do outside recordings.
Your harmonies and vocals are crisp as the morning air. Overall beautiful rendition of this song. I also love the silliness at the end, it was charming. Cheers.
This is absolutely beautiful! It brought tears to my eyes! Exactly the song I needed to hear today! I love the sound of the birds in the background was such an amazing duet
Such a slow, low key version but that's how you both made it your own, bringing yet another interpretation to a long-standing beloved classic. This song reminds me of long road trips to visit family in Charleston, S.C. as well as the painting " Carolina Morning " by Edward Hopper. There's also a song by Indigo Girls that elicits a similar feeling. It's so nice to see artists like yourselves harmonizing with such respect and appreciation while paying homage to earlier poets and musicians who did so much to shape sounds uniquely American. Thank You both, as well as everyone involved for bringing this to RUclips and thus me. This social distancing has a way of further alienating people, but for a brief moment I felt like I was right beside you under a nearby tree, breathing in life...and the wonder of it all. God Bless, Stay Well !!! Sincerely, P.
Great performance and recording - I like the outdoor setting with birds chirping and the video capture soft in color with shallow depth of field. Nice production.

The background noises in the track is just enough to add depth to the song without taking anything away. Damn good levels

Exactly!, it's so beautiful
and 'photography' is also gorgeous
and her shoe marking the 'tempo', especially in between verses.
That’s not “noise” they’re singing along. We are all part of the same playlist.

God bless you and James Taylor,s song 🙏 the sunshine is beautiful ❤️ love Frank 💖

Two voices have never melted together as flawlessly. I'm speechless.
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Ain't it just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
Karen she's a silver sun
You best walk her way and watch it shinin'
Watch her watch the mornin' come
A silver tear appearing now
I'm cryin' ain't I
Gone to Carolina in my mind
There ain't no doubt it no ones mind
That loves the finest thing around
Whisper something soft and kind
And hey babe the sky's on fire,
I'm dyin' ain't I
Gone to Carolina in my mind
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Ain't it just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind
Dark and silent late last night
I think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
Signs that might be omens say I going, going
I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
With a holy host of others standing around me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And it seems like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I'm up and gone to Carolina in my mind
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Ain't it just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
Gone to Carolina in my mind
Then I'm on to Carolina in my mind
Gone to Carolina in my mind
Gone - I'm gone - I'm gone
Say nice things about me
'Cause I'm gone south
Carry on without me
'Cause I'm gone
