As a fan of Age of Empires 2 and supreme commander and all the true old RTSs (Freedom to build bases wherever and no need to have a hand spasm to play (rediculous APM requirements) I think I would enjoy this game.. Thank you.

Since honest, well-produced channels like TotalBiscuit stopped putting out reviews, and because I refuse to watch anything put out by IGN or any similar company (untrustworthy/biased/paid off), I had to go looking for a decent review for this game, which piqued my interest on Steam because I'm an old-school RTS fan. Glad to have found your channel, I'm confused by your Americo-Australian accent (mostly Australian but slight American twang to some words), good production value, concise but not overly brief (gimmicky 1 minute reviews) and you are obviously honest and seem unbiased, so you gained a subscriber. Could be a bit longer, for my taste, you could go more in-depth into your lines of thinking and conclusions and add more detail so people can understand your perspective better, (TotalBiscuit spends 40 minutes on this kind of thing which is over the top) but overall great.
It came out of nowhere, huh. And at first I feared that after Cossacks 2 this one would be a terrible thing, but glad to hear it's just a HD remake, gonna buy it when they fix multiplayer for sure.
Okay, I am 4 years late :) The good thing of Cossacks 1 was that there were no limits. We used to play it with up to 6 players via LAN, 65,000 citizen each :D that was fun. I hope so much this is not fixed yet ....

My first game ever played was Cossacks I Now to this day i'm an 18 year old male, and never had I had issues with this game, i'm actually very good at it and I've played the Cossacks I offline for the last 5 years in periods. Just wanted to let you know that there are younger people like myself, and my friends too including who plays this ;)
Same dude, used to watch my cousin play this and didn't get this at all when I was a kid and kept playing it until I finally understood the mechanics. Now, I'm about to download this cause I miss this game.

What about MP? How's campaign, if there even is one? Original Cossacks had quite tough but extremely rewarding campaign, if they recaptured that, it'd be great.
The campaign is good like the first cossacks (I only finished the first campaign.)It have 5-6 campaigns with 5-6 missions each.Only bad things about the are slow speed(slower than cossacks 1 on fastest speed is like normal on cossacks 1) and friendly fire in naval battles.
Many factions, and they are puting a few more as free DLC soon. It has many campaigns, and like in cossacks 1, most of them can be completed by various ways, and most npc doesn't give you one kind of talk, they usally give you options. Pretty fun, it's like an RPG strategy games in the campaign some times, hehe. The game is great, as a fanboy of the first cossacks i could tell you a lot of things, but sorry, i don't have the energy to do that now :P
I started playing RTS games with Warcraft II. When Age Of Empires came out, I wore it out & couldn’t wait for sequel AOE II come out, of which I wore out it as well as it’s expansion packs. I downloaded a demo version of Cossacks & was hooked. I think it was around 1999-2000, I was thirty at the time & never played Warcraft II, Starcraft, or AOE again. Cossacks would be the last RTS game I’d play, since I no longer play video games at all. I’ve never seen Cossacks III, but if it’s anything at all like it’s predecessors I may even come out of gaming retirement to give it a try. Cossacks by a very wide margin is the best RTS I’d ever played & I doubt even now anything else would come close to topping it.
i loved this. this is what i ever expected when i was a kid playing cossacks 1, this is like a remastered version. today, the great majority of new versions of old video games changes the entire gameplay and are very different, like aoe3 and aoe2. this is perfect, i like it

First time viewer. Great review of the game. I would say people 25+ as I'm 51 and most of my 49-52 year old friends are old school RTS players. Peace out.
I'm hoping they redo Cossacks 2 after this! It's a fair bit different to the original Cossacks but the battles are a lot more in depth which I quite enjoyed, as well as the taking of villages, establishing a front-line, protecting caravans on roads etc., whereas this is more just build stuff, move stuff out, kill stuff.
Cossacks is not nearly as old as Age of Empires. Cossacks came out in 2001. AoE came out in 1997. AoE came out in 1999 so it's not even as old as that... And I think it shows in the gameplay... As you say it's somewhat reminiscent of the Total War games when it comes to the battlefield control and Shogun had only just come out when Cossacks was released.
So if I own and love Age of Empires 2 HD, should this be a buy for me? I enjoy these types of games and would also love to support this dev, but that's my biggest question for this one.
Cossacks has the option to set a peace time were opponents can't attack. My friends and I used to set an hour long peace time, use it to build up huge bases and armies, then have crazy battles.
You won't have this problem with Cossacks as it is much slower paced. Also check out Age of Empires 2, together with starcraft it is often considered the greatest rts of all time but unlike starcraft AoE2 can be very enjoyable as a more chill experience without all the stress
Though I have heard it's still pretty buggy and possibly a bit rushed out so I am thinking of holding off for a little while to give them more time to patch it.
Yeah, I have not gotten Cossacks3 either yet for the same reasons. AoE2 on steam is in prime condition though, check it out if you're in mood for some rts that is more epic than stressfull
Perhaps the strongest point about this remake is the developers will listen to the fan-base as it's common enough for flaws in games during initial release. At least they will try to address flaws where necessary. There wasn't much wrong with the way the first Cossacks played; so there wasn't any harm in trying to modernise it with the remake. :)
can you do a performance review on quantum break the steam version 40$ price tag with 780ti or tell me your opinion about if i can run it with 780ti i7 4790k 4.0ghz 16 gb of ram :)
Goddamn I can't believe I missed this game growing up. Admittedly I much prefer Age of Empires (over for example Rise of Nations) but the slow speed interests me. Have you tried that Scottish expansion too? I'm tempted to get that with it as it's also on sale.

I wasn`t really giving it too much attention and yet I disliked it so much, like no other Ubisoft game in existence, because of gameplay mechanics, such as: ther is no way of winning 2v1 fight even if your opponents are slightly weaker players / if you have one player on your team who isn`t participating very well in team play, you`ll loose the game. I`m a huge fan of Mount & Blade multiplayer (and singleplayer), so this game should have been a slam-dunk for me. Also there is stupidly high win-rate (80%ish) for the team that scores the first kill.
I dream about a game where cavalry worx like cavalry. Here, as I see, they made the same old mistake: the cavalry dudes ride to the infantry dudes, then they start hitting each other. So your cavalry is just another form of infantry with more legs and a bit more speed
Steam store page says it is by same dudes who made S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Maybe I`ll give it a go. But already have about 400 games on steam waiting to be played.

Hey man! I really enjoy everything you're doing, but this video departs a bit from your usual level of quality. This isn't as much a review as a nostalgia call. I relate to this video because I grew up with Cossacks, other than that it feels like nostalgia smoothed your usually sharpened and constructive criticism. How about Options menu? How about campaign? How about MP? I would have loved to see more of the game. Anyway, keep up the good work, you're awesome and I love what you're doing!
It's a little weird. I like Cossacks, I really really do, but just looking at this I can come up with 15 tiny improvements that I'd like to have. Tooltips, better feedback, better controlls and all that stuff. Why wouldn't you improve any of those things? Anyway, I hope Multiplayer gets some acceptance, RTS can never die!

Looks interesting. But even they themselves call it a remake on the store page. So why call the game Cossacks 3? Edit: Is this the same developers who made american conquest? I had some great times with that game :)
Eh... maybe because everyone were hyped about the game and it was an epic come back. They don't just remaked the cossacks 1, they remaked a pretty old legendary game. Also, they added a few units, and there are totally new campains, new UI. Is not like "we just put better textures on it". There are all new sound effects, graphics, animations, etc.
Well, we can say the same of Cossacks 2. It's literally a totally different game played by a different public. "Yeah, but they are all strategic games" you could say, yeah, but anyone can think that it was made by a different company too, because, let's be honest, is totally a different kind of game. It's like if they made an Age of Empires 4 and it is a Total War... well, i don't care about the name anyway :P
Use to be one of my favorite game. I'm play it for an hour :) But i think Cossack 2 is quite a bit boring when compare to first one and america fight back series . :) I think cossack 3 is nice come back and nice review by the way
I grew up playin Cossacks 1, like, maybe, with 9 years or less (yes, i didn't understand a fuck then, but i enjoyed it). I played it through time. Now i'm 19 and i'm enjoying Cossacks 3 as hell. The campains are a little buged, and other are a little... too easy, while in the Cossacks 1 most of them you play it at "medium" and it was HARDCORE AS FUCK. But i still loving the game, and i'm pretty happy they made it.

Yeah uh... dont assume whether someone will like a game based off their age. I'm 21 and play the hell out of AoE as a kid, and i'd probably love the shit out of this game.
It did not came out JUST after Age of Empires 1, not even close to that period. It was released three years after second Age of Empires game and five years after original. I am surprised that "old school" gamer made such a mistake.
I have the game it is very addictive I like the sound effects, graphics and the campaigns are fine but to me it feels much slower than the original cossacks series as even AC is a lot faster than this game plus it is missing vital nation like The Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark which is pretty annoying but have a feeling we'll have to wait for an expansion or DLC for them. So for me doesn't surpass back to war yet but it is pretty good for the time being!!
It is really a cool game, but it should be renamed "Cossacks - European Wars remastered", because it bring nothing new at all to the series, it is just a 3d Cossacks 1. It even had that annoying fast self-implosion of captured buildings that kills your nearby men. I really hope the mod community bring back some cool stuff that was in C2, like morale, a real use to formations and soldiers operating the cannons.
I know it's a short review, but it's essentially a reskin of a 15 year old game. Turns out it's still fun. Let me know what you think? Cheers :)

The MP didn't work when I reviewed it. The campaign is just a bunch of scenarios.
Oh, sorry, I meant to write "SP". Scenarios as in just a bunch of linked skirmish maps or scenarios with actual, possibly varied, objectives?

Yeah, the speed is slow as heck on fastest. You'll fall asleep before the first AI formation even tries to kill your base.

There is no unit or projectile collision, so why do formations even matter? Makes me wonder how it worked out in Cossacks 1.

It's a little weird. I like Cossacks, I really really do, but just looking at this I can come up with 15 tiny improvements that I'd like to have. Tooltips, better feedback, better controlls and all that stuff. Why wouldn't you improve any of those things?
Anyway, I hope Multiplayer gets some acceptance, RTS can never die!
Why improve when you can remake with less effort and get the same amount of money?
This game was the only thing that made me happy in my childhood, to be honest i can't even play it without getting memories it makes me sad
Old for playing games in 2000 ? I remember playing the Zork games on commodre 64 in the 80's... Going to start digging my grave then.
Considering the modern RTS is pretty much dead except for a few titles, I would actually recommend this one to a broader audience.

Is it just me, or is everyone else seeing stuttering and rubber-banding? Is that due to problems with your video renderer or issues with the game itself?
Looks interesting. But even they themselves call it a remake on the store page. So why call the game Cossacks 3?
Edit: Is this the same developers who made american conquest? I had some great times with that game :)

Eh... maybe because everyone were hyped about the game and it was an epic come back. They don't just remaked the cossacks 1, they remaked a pretty old legendary game.
Also, they added a few units, and there are totally new campains, new UI. Is not like "we just put better textures on it". There are all new sound effects, graphics, animations, etc.
Segundo Noacco The 3 in the title is implying it is a sequel, which it's not. Can be a bit misleading if you ask me.
Well, we can say the same of Cossacks 2. It's literally a totally different game played by a different public. "Yeah, but they are all strategic games" you could say, yeah, but anyone can think that it was made by a different company too, because, let's be honest, is totally a different kind of game. It's like if they made an Age of Empires 4 and it is a Total War... well, i don't care about the name anyway :P

Use to be one of my favorite game. I'm play it for an hour :) But i think Cossack 2 is quite a bit boring when compare to first one and america fight back series . :) I think cossack 3 is nice come back and nice review by the way
I grew up playin Cossacks 1, like, maybe, with 9 years or less (yes, i didn't understand a fuck then, but i enjoyed it). I played it through time. Now i'm 19 and i'm enjoying Cossacks 3 as hell.
The campains are a little buged, and other are a little... too easy, while in the Cossacks 1 most of them you play it at "medium" and it was HARDCORE AS FUCK.
But i still loving the game, and i'm pretty happy they made it.
i'm 19 too, and have played Cossacks back in the day, great memories! although Empire Earth was my favourite game at the time :D

I'm 21 and play the hell out of AoE as a kid, and i'd probably love the shit out of this game.

It did not came out JUST after Age of Empires 1, not even close to that period. It was released three years after second Age of Empires game and five years after original. I am surprised that "old school" gamer made such a mistake.
The dev should have "Cossacks Remake" as the name than Cossacks 3

I don't see any comparison of this to Stronghold.
I have the game it is very addictive I like the sound effects, graphics and the campaigns are fine but to me it feels much slower than the original cossacks series as even AC is a lot faster than this game plus it is missing vital nation like The Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark which is pretty annoying but have a feeling we'll have to wait for an expansion or DLC for them. So for me doesn't surpass back to war yet but it is pretty good for the time being!!
U forgot the kids that watched there fathers play those game as kids and hence loves these games, aoe2 was the shit for me when I was 6-11

It is really a cool game, but it should be renamed "Cossacks - European Wars remastered", because it bring nothing new at all to the series, it is just a 3d Cossacks 1. It even had that annoying fast self-implosion of captured buildings that kills your nearby men.
I really hope the mod community bring back some cool stuff that was in C2, like morale, a real use to formations and soldiers operating the cannons.
