I was depressed, locked myself in my room for 6 months during several life events, and lost almost all my motivation. Listening to Jordan's videos every night helped me to overcome that time.
I’m sorry you went thru that. I was just 51/50 and after that experience I broke up with my boyfriend and went back to my toxic work place. I’m over it. I can’t make a choice due to so much job hoping so I stay and I just keep to myself. But now management is helping out due to me being a liability. 4 months later and finally they listen but only because if something bad happened to me then they would be held responsible. Wish I could quit but I cannot. Plus if I do quit I’ll just find another job with another person who has a cluster b personality so I’ll just pass.
This is some the absolute best advice on the planet. He used to have one additional thing on this: "If you cant tell someone at work no, you cant negotiate. If you cant negotiate, youre a slave."
I listened to the audio where he said that on my way home from work yesterday. Feeling stuck in my job, not sure what the right thing to do is. And JPs words really moved me. Especially the line you mentioned. You pick the wrong job and it's like handing your soul over on a platter. It just sucks everything out of you. It takes your health, your peace, your values, it takes everything.
Last year I let a few emotionally abusive managers and HR ruin an 18 year long career in software programming. I’m afflicted with stress, sickness, self doubt, and have lost a lot of my self esteem. I currently work a labor job with guys less than half my age (I turn 50 in two months). Some days I feel as if nobody noticed I took a wrong turn and smashed my car into a tree, so to speak. It feels good to listen to someone who really cares about people like me.
Get a remote job and focus in your personal life. Our profession has good things, but a lot of bad managers and idiots. Ignore them, get the best from it and live a better life. Be strong.
Software programming is an industry that is full of entrepreneurial opportunities. I know you’re discouraged now. But entertain the idea that the dead end you crashed in may not have been a one-way street you thought it is. Look at freelance work opportunities, look for people in a similar industry who have found different paths of success (youtube and podcasts have many). You are never too old, it’s never too late. Find a way where you can find hope again on your bright future.
He is right on this. In 2008 I hated my job and the field I was in was depleting. The economy was tanking but I still had the opportunity to take early retirement. The first year it was dicey and wondered if I made the right decision. After that first year everything fell in place and I don't regret the decision. Through time it left me time to take care of my mom with Alzheimer's and spend more time with mom. So I took the chance and my life has been more rewarding than working in a job with no rewards

I think most people that are miserable with what they do are forced to stay trapped out of economic necessity, especially if they have others in their family who are financially dependent on them. Many, if not most are just scraping by paycheque to paycheque so the misery becomes the lesser of two evils.

It took a zombie apocalypse for him to finally not go into work and finally learned to live. Don’t let the end of the world be your motivation to start living.
What's most disturbing to me at 58, 14 years post divorce, are my younger coworkers who Really don't want to work. They believe the government should forgive their student loans they took out, and they have to do The Very Minimum at their job to stay employed with State government. They complain daily how they Hate their job... while being given work schedule accommodations, among numerous other accommodations. They just really Don't want to have to work.
Laziness is contagious...been saying this forever as a construction foreman. Current times have proven this on a whole new level. Stay true to yourself that's all we really have and good luck to you going forward.
Well, I think work ethic has to be taught to a certain degree. Anyway, I think its more sophisticated than not just wanting to work. You pointed out how they hate their jobs. Which jobs are these? Low wage and low skilled jobs? Few like those jobs. That should be of no surpise. I always do my best to pay the utmost respect to those who work in unglamorous or low wage jobs, because they are likely just doing it to just survive. Its a lot to ask of a person to be happy while performing menial duties. I would say the problem is not just the attitude, but is even more systemic. Our economy is not as productive or innovative as it once was. Even our very money is less valuable. (Inflation.) And while our culture has certainly deteriorated, a more fundamental issue is that we have become too socialist and were reaping the consequences. You have to work more hours and longer just to stay where you are. It shouldn't be so suprising that many are angry at such a situation.
@@Jimraynor45 No Jimmy (odd that you share my last name), you made an incorrect assumption. I work for State government in healthcare/Public health. We without degrees are paid twice minimum wage- with extensive work work sponsored benefits and management benefits to work "Plan A" which allows workers to pursue education or tend to family matters- 16 hrs granted per 80 hr pay period. Pretty Generous, No? Then they are consistently late or call off. As for menial job workers, ANYTHING You can do to take care of your family is worthy and respectable! I've been there as well. There is No Shade on Anyone working less paying jobs to provide for their family! Any step in a positive direction is good. I was talking about my younger (35 and under) coworkers who really just don't want to work, do the very bare minimum, while constantly complaining about how they Hate their job. Same workers are also on Plan A, so not even working a full schedule.
My husband is in similar situation where he can't hire any young ppl willing to work more than 3 days a week so he is overworked to fill in those gaps.

The actual question wasn't relevant in my current situation, but the thinking thru process of motivating & of working on yourself was quite useful to hear. I could think "What would Jordan Peterson say?" in an imaginary dialogue to work on a task that difficult for me emotionally that needs doing.
Psalms 10:4 "The wicked through the pride(: a function of self-worth, a way of acting that will not lower itself to perform a healthy relationship and standard of love.) of their countenance will not seek God he is not in all their thoughts." So that in all their thoughts there is no remembering of the things he has done for them nor an imagination for the things he can do for them. See Hebrews 11:1 and 6, Read the King James Bible and pray for wisdom.
I am looking forward to Jordan Peterson's eventual series on the New Testament and what he thinks about this advice in contrast to "turn the other cheek."
Every jobs that i worked tried to CRUSH MY SPIRIT. Both the bosses and the coworkers (slackers) I am done with jobs. I rather be homeless then EVER work another job in this god damned country ever again. No wonder everyone is losing their minds (or has lost it) Nothing about this hell hole of a society makes sense.

When you have discovered the nature of the E Quadrant (it is slavery/prison), getting another J.O.B. (Just Over Broke) is a fool's paradise. Use your free time to get a customer doing something menial (yard work, maid service, etc.), serve them well with a great attitude, and then get another customer. Moving laterally in Egypt produces more of the same. You must leave the E Quadrant if you ever want peace and prosperity in life.
My advise: so an interview for a job your don't actually want. Sell yourself like gold on a silver platter. I did this for my first interview and I was set for the rest of them.
First, there's no answer! Second there's always options. You're dealing with a businessman or bugger boss. Assuming you're too good at what you do and always got pushed around. That's usually the case, otherwise nobody would give you more work... the answer is there's no time my schedule to get this done but if you want me to leave another 3-4 projects and get this don't, I will. Find time. I will, tomorrow!
I keep saying, man, make the thumbnails accurately depict what we'll see in the videos. This is so counterproductive. Yet, the thumbnail is some random, edited photo, which gives the user no idea what to expect from the video. I bet most people would scroll past it, as it looks like one of those badly edited motivational videos that RUclips is full of. Just take a screenshot from the actual video, add some text over it, and upload it. Your views will double.
if my boss asked me to do *X* and in the middle of me doing *X* my boss comes and ask me to do *Y* instead and then comes back again in 5 minutes to yell at me "why isn't *X* being taken care of" am I the emotionally weak asshole slacker with no justified reason to quit? or are these repeated instances a sign of a toxic boss that's going to wear me out?

It took a zombie apocalypse for him to finally not go into work and finally learned to live. Don’t let the end of the world be your motivation to start living.
Its like, yeah.
@@Jimraynor45Well stated.
My husband is in similar situation where he can't hire any young ppl willing to work more than 3 days a week so he is overworked to fill in those gaps.
I'll do it
I needed to hear this !!! Thanks very much 😊
New Discourses has a great video called Fighting DEI Training. Gives ideas on what steps you can take
The actual question wasn't relevant in my current situation, but the thinking thru process of motivating & of working on yourself was quite useful to hear. I could think "What would Jordan Peterson say?" in an imaginary dialogue to work on a task that difficult for me emotionally that needs doing.
You're forgetting presenteeism as an option. I discovered that over lockdown. It's awesome.
Psalms 10:4 "The wicked through the pride(: a function of self-worth, a way of acting that will not lower itself to perform a healthy relationship and standard of love.) of their countenance will not seek God he is not in all their thoughts."
So that in all their thoughts there is no remembering of the things he has done for them nor an imagination for the things he can do for them.
See Hebrews 11:1 and 6, Read the King James Bible and pray for wisdom.
I am looking forward to Jordan Peterson's eventual series on the New Testament and what he thinks about this advice in contrast to "turn the other cheek."
Apply this motive thinking to the US government.
Every jobs that i worked tried to CRUSH MY SPIRIT.
Both the bosses and the coworkers (slackers)
I am done with jobs.
I rather be homeless then EVER work another job in this god damned country ever again.
No wonder everyone is losing their minds (or has lost it)
Nothing about this hell hole of a society makes sense.
I have changed so many jobs, now I have stability issue 😅
So twice for what you want and do once for what you do not want .
You turned me into the person I'm going be
There is a saying have a job you love and you will never work a day in your life, a Nurse is a very rewarding job
OR. if you been gifted or asked for that love that only God can give,,, you accept and offer that suffering for the salvation
of that person. Its redemptive suffering .With true Love in Faith you keep your peace.
I was retired in Colorado.
I did an interjew for a job in Israel
Thank you Jordan Peterson - 👍
I did that.. very hard. very very hard. and worth it
With the greatest respect to both of them: uncle Peterson has a hot chick next to him ❤😂
It is great to see Tammy is getting much better. ❤
¡ don’t wanna work,.. comfort is iniqualable,..
My advise: so an interview for a job your don't actually want. Sell yourself like gold on a silver platter. I did this for my first interview and I was set for the rest of them.
Tammy looks very pretty
First, there's no answer! Second there's always options. You're dealing with a businessman or bugger boss. Assuming you're too good at what you do and always got pushed around. That's usually the case, otherwise nobody would give you more work... the answer is there's no time my schedule to get this done but if you want me to leave another 3-4 projects and get this don't, I will. Find time. I will, tomorrow!
1st comment Dr. Peterson! Thank you for the video
It’s easy to get stuck especially with a tyrannical boss, sometimes you gotta change it up!
Add productive suggestions to your job if you can, that's the best most can do.
Great answer again. And on a side note, his wife Tammy looks unbelievably fit. She's ripped man.
Where can we find this particular talk in full?
I cant even get my cv to save in a place I can find on my device, when I save it and try and send it it doesn't seem to be there
This is good information, and as a counselor, I have helped people in these situations. It's important to seek support and guidance.

Bill Burr : but "No! stop it! what are you doing? Oh my god you're being so bad! Stop it! No!" That's not a f***ng no 😅
This guy hits the hammer on it's head
NO!!! well, that was easy…

How can you be this intelligent?
This isn't loud enough
It is interesting to watch his wife's body language during his answer.
God blessed you well.
Hopefully you have some bank/credit union accounts in USA so your homeland can’t touch them!
This is the Jordan i love. That helps me forward. Not the new, right wing conspiracy and drama Jordan.
What is "HR"?
Human Resources
@@robertjenkins4886 Ah, thank you. 🤝
I keep saying, man, make the thumbnails accurately depict what we'll see in the videos. This is so counterproductive. Your most liked videos are you giving lectures in these classes, apolitical, and unbelievably insightful.
First
if my boss asked me to do *X*
and in the middle of me doing *X*
my boss comes and ask me to do *Y* instead
and then comes back again in 5 minutes to yell at me "why isn't *X* being taken care of"
am I the emotionally weak asshole slacker with no justified reason to quit?
or are these repeated instances a sign of a toxic boss that's going to wear me out?
You haven’t suffered enough..you’re not talking about vibe culture.
I'm not afraid. I live in defiance of those who want to fk with me. Bring it. I stand for my co-workers. I stand with my friends. Bring it!
No to gay sex. That’s for certain. I’m not equipped to work in an apple farm writing programs, apps, and code. I was retired in Colorado. Retired. And my ex husband brought me here pretending to be the poor. Shall I go further?
Ha laughed they hit you behind without you even knowing it as soon as you take out a loan they cut hours lol try proving it
Hur dur
Dissatisfied with your job? Misbehave until they take your professional license away.
In what way has he misbehaved?
They´re coming to take me away,
Haha, they´re coming to take me away,
Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha,
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I´ll be happy to see
Those nice young men
In their clean white coats
And they´re coming to take me AWAY,
