Absolutely since it is just a short clip from longer discussion. Whole point that JP was making is that there is allways risk, no matter what, but staying in the job you hate have much much greatter risk than seeking something else.
Yeah. And he wasn't saying "quit your job" irresponsibly. He's a psychologist. He's thinking of the risk of a person becoming bitter and resentful as they stay in the job they hate. And much morr than that.
I agree that Ken is smart but sometimes he runs on a matter or offers senseless advice like I'm so and so and I'm doing this type of work because of x, y, z. Or when he questions the callers about the 'why'. Sometimes your hands are tied and you are working a certain type of work because you have to provide, it's not always about passion or career advancement.
@@CaptainSleep at first I kinda blew it off that Dave interrupts Ken... as the more I listen though its quite blatant now that he cuts him off all the time... its quite distracting tbh
@Prey R what examples of John are you talking about? I’ve listened to him and there are a few times where I’ve questioned his advice but never thought it was disgusting.
@Prey R no he does a good job of stating “I’m not telling you to get a divorce”. He constantly says he does not advocate for people to get a divorce if the issue can be resolved. And often if he does tell them they deserve better, it’s because the situation definitely calls for a divorce.
🤦♂️ If you listen to his “UNEDITED LECTURE” on this topic which he has given NUMEROUS TIMES, he repeatedly says “Do not quit your current job without having something else lined up.” He even goes as far as to say to have an alternative job offer EVEN if you are just going to negotiate a higher salary! For Goodness’ sake, do your research people!
Jordan Peterson speaks from the perspective of the people he is helping, the ones who deal with these fears every day. He's helping them be brave by understanding that there is just as much risk in not taking the leap of faith, so they might as well go for it.
These guys take things so literal. I work very long hours, it’s not easy. That said, my job allows me to impact lives in a big way. It doesn’t feel like work in the traditional sense. It feels like helping people & getting paid

I’m so glad we followed your advice back in 1999. We now have a paid for rental and a paid for home , daughter in private school, fully funded emergency account with a years worth of wages, paid for cars always, zero debt always. And retirement is always fully funded. Thank you so much.
I love the advice my dad use to give: If you hate your job, every day will feel like work. If you’re passionate about what you do, only some days will. I’ve always loved my career, but that advice has helped me so much during the days that do feel like work.
I can't. If I'm passionate about something, doing it for work will only kill my passion for it. My job brings me satisfaction since I get to help people and that does bring me joy, but I would never in a million years do my job for free. I just found the work that feels like work, but doesn't bring me any bitterness
@@JustATotalNerd I see where you’re coming from, but being passionate about something doesn’t have to mean you’d do it for free. It just means you enjoy doing it and/or you believe in the mission behind what you do. As an example, I’m a software engineer for a defense contractor. I enjoy designing and writing software, and I believe in our mission to help our military more effectively defend the country. However, I’d never in a million years do my work for free. It can be mentally draining. I’d rather spend that unpaid time with my family.
I’ve had a lot of different jobs before I settled into my career. Most of the time, when a job was miserable it was the people I worked with who made it miserable. I worked a warehouse in college. The job itself was fine. I actually liked driving a forklift around and didn’t mind being cold lol. I just hated the whining, complaining losers that I worked with. They acted like the sky was falling every time we had a problem or lots of work to do. Similar experiences elsewhere I worked. I kinda miss the summer nights with the bay doors open and country music on the little radio haha.
Peterson is speaking to the psychology and analysis of taking the leap to get out of a dead end job. These two are talking about the rational logic movement to the next step. It’s a bit like two different discussions.
I personally don’t think there is such thing as a dead end job (so much as that job earns money or skills). I’m typing this in passing on my way out the door so apologies if there isn’t a follow up reply. Have a good one.
@@brianparrett114 that's hyperindividualism to a fault and terrible nihilism. My life is not a dead end, because the circle of life continues through my children and others to whom I showed love, wisdom, and skills. Change your life philosophy, man.. it sucks.
@@brianparrett114 Just because you CAN think up a frame of reference through which you can come to conclusion that life doesn't matter, that doesn't mean that you are using a proper frame of reference. If we use the ability to think up a frame of reference that dwarfs the importance of anything, then we can effectively minimize the importance of everything, and that is a mode of existence that terminates in chaos. Just because life seems to be a dead end, doesn't mean that your life doesn't matter. Who are you and I to say that life is a dead end anyway? Just because you can't conceive the idea of continued existence beyond the here and now, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist, and I would caution us to be careful about assuming it doesn't.
Amen, and if Dave and Ken both actually listened to JP, they would understand that JP actually says the same thing they say, just gives deep references to the origins of their meanings.
You missed the point Peterson is saying the risk is rejection on looking for new career. Not saying it’s not a risk worth taking… it’s absolutely worth taking is what he’s saying… he’s just talking to the point that fear of risk of rejection is normal and to use that knowledge to leap over it and go for that new opportunity.
cause ken got in. attitude mode with him when he said I dont think you see the context and perspective Peterson is coming from so Ken Got egotistical and seen the way his voice, tone changed and Dave had mean mug face on him after he had his flare of disconnect but I agree with Dave and Peterson its better for your mental health to get a job you Can peace of mind about in morals and honor and all virtuous principles that gives you peace of mind .
@Prey R I concur with Steven Smith. Peterson is reaching a tipping point. With his daughter now believing and his wife having been an influence his entire life it's close.
@Jordan Dynamite I've read plenty of his stuff, including things he's published in the psych world, not just the media. If I had had to have a guy like him as a professor I'd have had a hard time finishing, because he doesn't think women deserve higher education. He'd have us all back in the kitchen.
This is a good example of why you listen to multiple people with different perspectives and different expertises and then learn good judgement to make a decision. Ramsey is an expert at a type of financial management with a focus on very low-risk strategies. Peterson is an expert on psychology with a focus on creating personal fulfillment and peace through responsibility and self cultivation. They are even discussing exactly the same thing. Listen to both, and many more, and learn to use good judgement to make a decision based on all that input.
Funnily it was a combination of JP and Dave that helped me sort my finances. JP said "face up to your fear, you know what it is" I had to literally look in the mirror and simultaneously ask and tell myself that my fear was my finances. In facing up to them during my search I found Dave and he said "get the hell out of debt and stop buying stuff you don't need and can't afford". So I did that. Three years ago. Now I have gone from a negative net worth to $580k and a house that will be paid of in 2.5 years. Thank you Dave, and JP.
Remember, you were looking for a job when you found the job you currently have. So as long as you quietly job search while keeping the current job, you are only risking rejection and risking that the new job won't live up to what you expected. It's not fatal. That said, if you're 60+ you should strongly consider staying put until retirement.
Also getting rejected from jobs while currently employed isn't anywhere near as bad as being rejected when you're unemployed. Looking for jobs when it's not an emergency really isn't that bad and has the potential to drastically improve your life. Even if someone isn't miserable in their job it's not bad to keep an eye out and look for better opportunities.
Jordan is keen on the saying, “Don’t throw your pearls before swine”. He tells people to focus on a goal, but it won’t be a straight path to success. You miss or adjust and goals shift, but keep moving towards it. Bad jobs can kill your body and spirit. You must treat yourself like someone you care about so you can keep growing. “There are two major reasons for resentment: being taken advantage of (or allowing yourself to be taken advantage of), or whiny refusal to adopt responsibility and grow up.” - Jordan Peterson. You must find some responsibility to bear in order for life to have meaning. If you can’t make a situation at work better, it may be risky to get out, but staying it worse.
That wasn't Paterson's opinion. He was trying to use people's excuses against them. He was just trying to prove that even though one thing is hard, the alternative is still much worse.
I enjoy what Dave and Jordan said as two separate ideas. I equate what Jordan was saying about the gap between the known and the unknown. You can be miserable in your current position but at least you know what to expect. Or you can take a gamble and hope that where you move to is better.
I am retired now but, I worked as an RN. I switched jobs several times during my career. The two factors involved were work load and money. If management decided to put too much of a work load, this can be dangerous. You can always get another job but, you can never get another license. The money situation is obvious. One job switch, I got a lower work load with a 20% pay increase.
I really needed to hear this today. I need to change my mindset of what I really should be afraid of... Staying in a job I don't love. Time to continue the grind.
All these abilities in terms of getting and keeping jobs and climbing the ladder/developing a career are skills that need to be taught beginning in middle school at the latest. A lot of kids are expected to just know this stuff and to know how to study and learn, and it's not necessarily innate.
I greatly disagree. The ones who belong at the top will figure out how to get there. The ones who don’t won’t. Getting to the top is not something that everyone should be able to achieve, it would then no longer be the top. Those who put the time in on their own and develop skills to increase their value are the ones who we should want at the top.
@@greyhigg7300 That's nuts! That's like saying to Dave Ramsey, "Don't bother to teach financial skills to people; if they can't figure it out on their own, then they deserve to be poor." People can choose to take career-building advice or not, but if they're not exposed to these concepts at all, they're at a disadvantage.
I think one can also learn to love their job. I work in a warehouse, and my job involves a lot of heavy lifting. Living in Sweden, I also do a lot of work in cold weather. I didn't like it at first, but over time, I started enjoying the fact that I get to move around a lot, I'm almost never bored because there's always stuff to do, I can eat what I want because I burn so many calories (got in shape after being overweight most of my life), and there's a ton of variety on top of that. It's pretty awesome.
When I was 14 I was given the opportunity to sell product door to door. I was (& still am) afraid of dogs. I made excellent money for a 14 YO at the time. One weekend i 'fretted' about the dogs i would encounter the next week but the supervisor assured me and I continued. The following weekend, I lost sleep worrying. I went in Monday morning and quit. At 14 I resolved that if I hated going to work 2 Mondays in a row - I would quit on that second Monday. I had a LOT of jobs in my life and the only one I kept where I worked multiple Mondays in a row and hated my work was when I worked for myself doing really boring consulting. I was my own boss - and wouldn't accept my own resignation!! (humor) The only thing I didn't do well, was plan for retirement. If I had perhaps run across Dave Ramsey early enough, I would be in a better position today. My brother worked at a job for 25 years and probably 'hated' it (maybe a bit strong) for almost 20 of those years. But in the end - he had 6 weeks paid vacation and retired early with a pension. I envy him. Word of advice to the young... listen to Dave and team, but find a job that makes Monday something to look forward to, almost as much as Friday.
Dave is great, and their advice and message here are correct. However, it's a small section of a conversation, and with peterson you have to listen to it all and this was just a small part of it.
years and years ago I worked for the post office. A friend of mine hated his job at the PO and I said what do you want to work at. He said I want to work in the film industry but they won't pay me hardly anything. I said "oh you're making so much here I feel for you. Why aren't you somewhere where they make movies instead of whining here. A couple of days later he came into the office and said I'm quitting today and moving to LA. He came back two years later to thank me and told me "I'm still not making a lot of money but I love my work and I meeting people who have the same love of what we're all doing and I can see a great future just doing the work I'm loving to do. I always hope he succeeded but happy he didn't have to work his life at the PO.
One thing to remember for me at least is that starting a new job creates a ton of stress in learning new stuff, working with new colleagues, and re-proving myself. Not a reason to stay in a bad spot but something to remember before leaving.
It’s pretty easy. Avoid debt, save and the risk to change jobs is minimal. Make sure a job is not a dead end before you take on a mortgage. Work hard. If you become wealthy-goody- but don’t pursue wealth. It’s a trap. Material is mortal error. Never expect an inheritance. Let your kid’s use wisdom and make their own darn money. Where is the terrifying risk?
I don't mind hardworking at all. What crushes my spirit is living paycheck to paycheck. The truth is that Dave has no advice for someone in my situation others than to say "Hustle!" Well, I got that myself, Dave. Thank you!
Your peace of mind is more important than any job you have at the moment. A year ago, I quit a job that I had worked at for about 5 years. The pay was great, but the people werent, and my mental was diclining. I didnt have a plan when I quit, all I had was 2600 in savings, some assets, no credit, and lived in a cheap rental. Took me 3 monthes to find another job. I changed trades, took atleast a $10k-$15k/yr pay cut. But now, a year later, Im well into my new job, love it, make as much as I did at my old job, great credit, have $20k liquid (saved every dollar I could, and sold off a chunk of my assets), and am now looking to buy my first home. Sometimes, quitting is a good thing!
I understand that the name of the show is Dave Ramsey BUT when he constantly interrupts his cohosts it’s distracting and frankly a turnoff to watching. They both have relevant things to say and I don’t like watching Dave talk over them so often.
Did yall listen to the whole interview? Peterson followed that up by saying "There's no secure path...there are risks." It's not doom and gloom, it's saying if you are expecting a risk free path forward, there's not one.
Peterson is incredible. With all due respect to Dave & crew, don't bother with idiotic tiktok. Deep, complex subjects require long formats to properly learn from. Tiktok reduces everything to cheap oversimplified brainless entertainment.
Sometimes you need to shove it down, smile and get it done. Not forever, but if you have goals, you can tolerate a lot for the sake of the mission. If I knew as a 20 year old what I know as a 45 year old, I would be much farther ahead, but that's the point. Work hard and learn while you're young so you don't have to work as hard when you're old.
I say take the plunge when you can. It can change you -- if you are the kind of person that wants to change in getting out of the job they don't want. You have another option too - make a connection to distract you from work.
More context is needed. He doesn't advocate just jumping ship without a plan. He has done this type of thing with his clinical psychology clients for many years. TikTok is not necessarily the best medium for showing the full context of what a long-form discussion is entailing and that's what JP does.
Dave! Let Ken get one full sentence in, please! Lay off the caffeine. Ken was saying some great stuff that got interrupted. "When we see a desired future, we will endure pain.". That is amazing line from Ken

JP is a true leader. He'd make a great PM. Canada is lucky to have him. Get him on the show!
... maybe check his recent thoughts about racialized people in academia. I love democracy smh
@@M..................... What does "racialized people" even mean, my guy.
The cabal would never allow it
So wrong
Let him talk, Dave! He is smart that’s why you hired him. 😆
He interrupts a lot. You can tell that Ken gets annoyed.
What does “lined up” mean? As in a job offer is forthcoming? Or you have multiple interviews scheduled with hope one will lead to an offer?
I think he meant offer @newagain9964
Jordan Peterson speaks from the perspective of the people he is helping, the ones who deal with these fears every day. He's helping them be brave by understanding that there is just as much risk in not taking the leap of faith, so they might as well go for it.
These guys take things so literal.
I work very long hours, it’s not easy. That said, my job allows me to impact lives in a big way.
It doesn’t feel like work in the traditional sense. It feels like helping people & getting paid
"So the debt is the snake, and we have a primal instinct to run from it. It embodies what is truly satanic in all of us. And what you're saying is to shoulder the responsibility, to embody the Christ figure and crush the head of that snake. And the credits cards? Well that's easy. That's the apple that promises all the things we haven't earned." - not Jordan Peterson.
Love this haha!!

This actual video combined with God and prayer actually pushed me into a company that needed a financial coach when they required a degree from me I didn't have one but I had evidence that I taught people, loved them and showed them a new path. I got the career!!! I'm now a financial coach and I'm so happy and excited I love my life and every day!!! God is great! Proud Salvadorian Latina thank you Dave and Jordan P
Dave needs to be quiet sometimes and let the cohost fully explain their thoughts
Judging by the comments we all love Dave and Jordan. Let's make an episode happen please 🙏 both these men have changed my life.
I’m so glad we followed your advice back in 1999. We now have a paid for rental and a paid for home , daughter in private school, fully funded emergency account with a years worth of wages, paid for cars always, zero debt always. And retirement is always fully funded. Thank you so much.
How long have you been in BS7?
@@JustATotalNerd agreed
Dave is like “I wanna hear your response” and then talks over the other guy the whole time.
Ken: Starts to talk...
Dave: Let me finish your thought for you cause I am smart.
Travis Ledo...and Ken's response should be "yes, I know you are smart...and I'm right up there with you buddy." : )
Ken gives the strongest feeling I've ever had of "making it up as you're going along".
He has less personality than his rear-facing comb over.
Dave/Ken is my least favorite host combination. Dave constantly interrupts Ken. It’s uncomfortable to watch and listen to
I’ve had a lot of different jobs before I settled into my career.
Same problem I've been having. It's never the job itself, but the people that always ruin it for me.
I would love to see JP as a guest. Definitely make it happen!
Peterson is speaking to the psychology and analysis of taking the leap to get out of a dead end job. These two are talking about the rational logic movement to the next step. It’s a bit like two different discussions.
Every life is a dead end so why does it matter if our jobs are too?
@@melanieb2132 Maybe some people don't have what you have, ever thought about that? Change your mind and open it up.
This is the problem when you only watch a clip and don't have the full context of the conversation. Would love to see this collab!
Dave for the pocketbook, Peterson for the spirit.
Amen, and if Dave and Ken both actually listened to JP, they would understand that JP actually says the same thing they say, just gives deep references to the origins of their meanings.
@@BandasPalette And Dr. Peterson says it in far fewer words
Jordan Peterson should come on the Ramsay show
I’ve never seen Dave cut anyone off as many times as he just did in this video lol
cause ken got in. attitude mode with him when he said I dont think you see the context and perspective Peterson is coming from so Ken Got egotistical and seen the way his voice, tone changed and Dave had mean mug face on him after he had his flare of disconnect but I agree with Dave and Peterson its better for your mental health to get a job you Can peace of mind about in morals and honor and all virtuous principles that gives you peace of mind .
Out of all the Ramsey personalities Dave and Ken just don't seem to mix at all. 😂
George kisses up to him so they get along fine; I guess George knows who butters his bread.😂😂
@Prey R Nope
Peterson is a gift from God
He's getting there. Ever hear of C.S. Lewis?
@Prey R I concur with Steven Smith. Peterson is reaching a tipping point. With his daughter now believing and his wife having been an influence his entire life it's close.
It's just too bad he's such a misogynist.
@@christinebutler7630 he is not. Not sure if your being intentionally misleading or your just misinformed.
Jordans Petersons point was simply that even if it’s really hard to find the next job, it’s still worth it ….
As much as I like both Ramsey and Peterson, I hope this show doesn’t turn into a regular “Dave reacts to” kind of channel.
i know!!!
We're talking about five minutes of a daily two hour show. Only about 15% of the content (the highlights) makes it to this channel
I would LOVE to hear a conversation between Dave and Jordan 😂😂 omg that would be to die for. Great minds both of them.
Listen to Peterson on the Sunday Special with Ben Shapiro. Also very good 👍
Ramsey is no match for Jordan's wit.
Lol dave doesn't let anyone finish a thought.

Oh my god worlds colliding. Next thing I know we're gonna get Dave on JRE, or vice versa🤣
Never question the algorithm
We love Jordan Petterson!
He is a great mind!
we have listened to him a lot .
That wasn't Paterson's opinion. He was trying to use people's excuses against them. He was just trying to prove that even though one thing is hard, the alternative is still much worse.
Their focus is earning money and frugality. Jordan's focus is your mental health, as a psychologist.
I enjoy what Dave and Jordan said as two separate ideas. I equate what Jordan was saying about the gap between the known and the unknown. You can be miserable in your current position but at least you know what to expect. Or you can take a gamble and hope that where you move to is better.
Jp and Dave have helped out with so many life lessons.

I agree with you.

True haha! Dave is high on caffeine today 😂😂
Irritating hearing Dave rudely, rudely interrupting! 🙄
OMG. Dave was on another level with interrupting on this segment.
Best part of this video is Dave saying he would like to have Jordan on the show. Lets GO!!!!
I want more of this! Can Dave react to Jordan Peterson more??? 😂 I may have enjoyed this way too much!
I was looking for Jordan Peterson talking to Gordan ramsey but this will do
the other guy got defensive real quick, whitou even having to, guess he thought JP was telling people to not change jobs.
You don’t love your job, you DO your job for the people you love.
Dave let the man talk mate!
(humor)
The only thing I didn't do well, was plan for retirement.
As a huge fan of Theo von and Dave Ramsey, it’s crazy seeing them both on the same screen lol GANG GANG
Peterson is one of the great minds of today
You should invite him over to the show for a productive conversation. You both could learn a lot from each other.
I don't mind hardworking at all. What crushes my spirit is living paycheck to paycheck. The truth is that Dave has no advice for someone in my situation others than to say "Hustle!"
Well, I got that myself, Dave.

You have to carefully listen and examine Jordan Peterson. He is brilliant and super articulate. Most people don’t understand him at all!!!!!!!
Ken, you’d get owned by Peterson
So would Dave
YOU SHOULD TOTALLY GO ON EACH OTHER'S SHOWS!!!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s unbelievable how much you missed the point, took Peterson’s words out of context and missed the audience that he was trying to address.
Can’t wait to see this
Sometimes you need to shove it down, smile and get it done. Not forever, but if you have goals, you can tolerate a lot for the sake of the mission. If I knew as a 20 year old what I know as a 45 year old, I would be much farther ahead, but that's the point. Work hard and learn while you're young so you don't have to work as hard when you're old.
Kenneth, like you, I appreciate a good collar. Sorry, Mr. Bossman keeps interrupting you. You're increasing your risk by staying there.
He wasn’t talking about financial risk he was talking about the perceived emotional risks
He’s just saying don’t avoid the fear of change.
@caseyburnsinvesting Bro, where have you been? Haven't seen any new content from you.
