    if you are using a high gain amp (think 5150), put a neck pup (usually lower output) in your bridge. boom. winning combo...for me anyways..we can all agree passive is best

    Great experiment! It's a subtle difference, but I bet that it would be more apparent in a live situation. As you said, the bridge pickup used in the neck is a little muddier, so it would get lost in the mix more easily.

      What I want to try to two “neck” pickups in a guitar

    • @bryanwilliams3665
      @bryanwilliams3665 3 года назад +2

      @@Chucksguitargeekery That's a great idea..In years gone by, there was NEVER a Neck and Bridge pickup. A more powerful neck pickup will NOT translate to Mud . The sound is quite dependent on the magnet used (A2,A5, UOA5, Short A5, Rough Cast or Smooth) and magnets are easily and cheaply changed. Further ,Pickup heights will also change the treble/bassVolume balance ..Enjoy..

    JIMMY PAGE LES PAUL: Madison Square Garden 1973 : Bridge Pickup Underwound T Top at 7.5k ohms :: Neck pickup Hotter PAF Alnico5 at 8.6k ohms .. This pushes the Bridge PUP into almost bright Telecaster territory , while the neck pickup is Woody and buttery... The Middle position has an almost "duck quack' (Not out of phase either!) quality to it.. Sounds like 3 different guitars.... I had Some Duncan Antiquities in a Les Paul, wired as per instruction with a 7.5k Neck and an 8.6 Bridge. It sounded real close to Gary Moores Les Paul and NOTHING like Jimmy Pages... When I flipped the pickups and put the "Low Power" in the Bridge and the High Power in Neck, I lost the Gary Moore Tone and it sounded like Jimmy Pages Guitar in "The Song Remains The Same" I was over the moon.. Really Happy!... Its really strange because most of these Pickup winders that do a "Led Zeppelin Set" screw it up completely and do not have a Flipped Set..

    Great video! Clapton used ‘57s in his SG - both neck pickups. I wonder if the same effect can be replicated by lowering the height on a hotter pickup. 🤔

    I recently installed pickups into a fairly cheap guitar of mine because it plays really well, I specifically bought a pickup for the bridge position and had another dimaarzio bridge pickup knocking about and decided to use it in the neck....its weird, very sharp and snappy, but blended in the middle position with the other bridge placed pickup the overall tone is excellent. But as far as silky or fuzzy thick leads go, playing in the neck position of this guitar can't do that anymore.

    GFS & Guitar Heads both makes good pups, BUT, a Les Paul needs Dimarzio SD1 Super Distortion bridge and a Paf pro or Dimarzio sh1 59 in the neck and you will never ever look back!

    Flip just the neck pickup around. You will get a more smoother mid sound. It will make the top strings sound slightly glassier and your bottom strings warmer in sound and feel.

      hey i have a bridge pickup thats really nice but i exclusively use the neck pickup, can you explain how exactly to do this? do you mean i should install the bridge pickup in the neck only upside down?

    • @mr8ty8
      @mr8ty8 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@rangoonlazy2776 you can try. It's not a lot of work to flip the pickup.
      You can put it manually out of phase too.
      By sliding the magnets out and reverse them to flip it's polarity.
      Thats why peter greens "greeny" guitar sounds unique.
      Enough videos on RUclips about switching a pickups polarity

    • @J.C...
      @J.C... 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@mr8ty8sorry but you are incorrect. Just flipping the entire pickup itself won't change anything. You can't get Peter Green sound by flipping the whole pickup. You MUST flip the magnet itself or flip the wiring.

    This is what im interested in! And flippinnthe bridge polepieces on the inside insteadbof by the bridge and the two different ohms in the two places.
    See i got a new iyv jz300? And the neck is loud and the bridge is not as strong. Ive got both adjusted low right before volume drop and pole pieces up some. Cnc wounds the adjustables slug top too and they got wax. I still may change pickups cause I want more scream and sing and sustain.

    Great playing man even with the pick ups reversed still excellent work your progressions were certainly very nice and very well executed. Either way it’s interesting I actually bought a 66 Gibson Les Paul standard four years ago have the bridge and neck guitar pickups neck was wound at 8.9 K and bridge wound at 8.3 K I think that Gibson back in those years 59 even on probably later as you can look at much higher winds and even much later PAF pick ups that Patton applied for stickers were still being put on. Interestingly enough these pick ups are worth over $10,000 and that really shocks me Even though they’re 66s they really are 59’s with a part and applied for sticker I was truly shocked however, there is no doubt I had to switch the neck and bridge pick up because I am certainly not the most accomplished, jazz musician, but a blues rock musician. However, I did find in using these pick ups out of phase this gave me one hell of a killer, Paul call Saul tone, which was interesting because call sauce pick ups were factory fuck up out of phase and bridge. Pick up was a very low wind and again neck pick up very high wind, but also out of phase, where is Gary Moore and Peter Green of course same guitar lol but the bridge pick up was still around much hotter than the neck pick up. How do you switch those two around you would have the Paul Kossoff tone damn near it so either way it’s kind of interesting maybe that’s how they got it. They got a hold of some of those PG pick up somehow another pair and somebody switch them out and bingo. There’s you’re out of phase call soft tone interesting I’m not it did not even realize it myself until just now That you could do that with the Peter Green pick ups as well interesting thanks guys and have a great day as a matter of fact WCR Jim over there makes cherry buckers the pick ups made by Buckcherry as a matter of fact, the bridge is wound at 8.3 and neck 8.9 they use them in there yes 335 check out the videos they sound bad ass Jim makes a kick ass pick up check out his cross roads for a true PAF tone one of the best either way great video and thank you I would love to hear. Any suggestions you have about these hotter neck pick ups and is there a better way to use them by adjustment in order to take down the power of the pick up? Thanks. 14:26

    If you've got alnico 5 pickups try flipping them as you did and swap the magnet in the (new) neck for an A2 or A3

    I have a Squier SSS Strat that's 4.65/3.5/3.65 k Ohms for N/M/B pickups. Not sure if the output values were originally or intended to be like as a repair or upgrade, even if anyone bothered to try to match them and sequentially arrange & configure it that way ? I think the next restring I may consider getting that sorted out in a more traditional configuration. Maybe I won't have to resolder anything and there's enough wiring to move them around. Might have to reverse the 5 way switch too.
