- When it comes to legendary Pokemon, there are very few Pokemon which truly feel “legendary”. Even in generation one, when we only had 5 Legendary Pokemon, there was definitely separate tiers. The three legendary birds were powerful elemental monsters that felt more important than just about every other Pokemon in the game. However, they absolutely feel insignificant when you compare them to mewtwo. This man made Pokemon was really just on another level. It was fast, powerful, and it just has a pressure about it. And then there is Mew. A mythical Pokemon that was nearly impossible to get your hands on. For most kids, the only times we saw this Pokemon was in the opening theme of the Pokemon anime, or in the first Pokemon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back. and with the remake of this movie making some major news in the Pokemon community, i figured it would be a perfect time to retell the story of Mew and Mewtwo. And for this case, we will be focusing purely on the stories of generation 1. Mewtwo is awesome, he went from villain to hero after one movie, has a cool design, and he is the only legendary pokemon to be playable in super smash bros
Mewtwo is everyone favorite legendary he’s has an complex backstory but I wish they kept the untold story of his birth it’s key to his character and really fleshes him out more. Love to see more legendary explain videos.

Mewtwo is my favorite pokemon of all time and I know better than anyone that not that many people trully love it. In most cases all they feel is respect. Like you respect a better 2-Mega-ed version of Charizard that can actually kick asses. It's very rare when players give it as much attention as it deserves

Mewtwo is the OG God Emperor of Pokemon. For me, Movie Mewtwo and Manga Mewtwo are tied for best, and the movies show us a second Mewtwo, so in the anime movies, there are two Mewtwo: One created by Team Rocket, and another created in Kalos, presumably by Team Flare or just a rando group o scientists (Can't remember). Mewtwo has been and still is to this day my #1 favorite Pokemon.
I don't think there are two Mewtwos. It's about just how inconsistant pokemon story is. Ash is always 10 with no good explanation behind it, dark types were non-existant in Indigo League even though there are catchable dark types in Kanto, Pikachu's level is reset every new journey, etc. Don't be surprised how Mewtwo became weaker, became female and what the hell she did in Kalos. The best explanation is that TPC don't care.

@@ldmtag There are, and for several points of evidence: first, the Kalos Mewtwo didn't recognize Ash. Ash was very important to the first Mewtwo for many reasons, and after movie 2, let Ash and co keep their memories. Secondly, the Kalos Mewtwo have a female voice and acts quite differently from the first Mewtwo.

Why would you call him of when mew is the ancestor of all pokemon
Mew and Mewtwo are my favorite Gen 1 Pokemon. Their creature designs are iconic, their power is unmatched by all other Pokemon of the Kanto Region, their backstories are engaging, and their staring roles in Pokemon the first movie was and still is impactful too me. I agree with you the lesson Mewtwo learned at the end of the movie is very important and something we all take for granted.
I personally like Mew better because it can learn almost every Pokémon move excluding those that can only be learned by certain Pokémon. Not to mention the cuteness of this mythical Pokémon. But Mewtwo is also pretty cool.
Mew And Mewtwo Are Awesome,But Not As Awesome As Calumon And Chronomon!
I love how subtle the story of Mewtwo was in the Gen 1 games. From the clues throughout the game and the diaries in the Pokémon Mansion, the prevailing story is that Dr. Fuji and maybe Blaine were commissioned / funded by Giovanni to use Mew’s DNA to make a super Pokémon in the Pokémon Mansion. Dr. Fuji went along with this because of someone who passed away, which is why he’s now secluded himself in Lavender Town after Mewtwo’s escape and has so much appreciation for caring for others. Ditto is found in the Mansion and Ditto and Mew are the only learners of the move Transform, telling you they have to be linked. Mew is clearly failed clones of Mew. They made Mewtwo, he destroyed the Mansion, and then Giovanni is on the hunt for a Master Ball and trying to re-hire Dr. Fuji to go recapture Mewtwo. In the games, they never explain why Team Rocket is trying to get Dr. Fuji, but from all the other clues you can figure this out.

@@MFSGamePlay kids are even weaker now. getting offended over anything they can find an excuse to be offended by, and pretend that being offended means that something has to change as a result. e: i've seen kids get offended at a mr. rogers episode. they just want to jump at any sign of something that they even slightly disagree with.

Kids would think it's scary as it would make it more of a fear that a person wouldn't notice that it's the real you and also making a fake person/Pokemon Wich is scary to think about because it's a clone that doesn't have a soul but had codes of it's body to make a replica of itself from anything that's alive as a clone.

True. I'm a little miffed that BDSP removed some moves. For example, in the Sw/Sd metagame, Mew can learn Psyshock and Stored Power. BDSP? Nope.
P.S. Having a 600 BST by 100 across the board isn't really that great on the competitive scene anymore. Maybe buff its stats (which may mean having to buff Arceus to keep it the most powerful not counting the big 3 megas (M. Mewtwo X, M. Mewtwo Y, and M. Rayquaza) and Eternamax Eternatus.)
P.P.S. Interestingly enough, if Arceus get's just a 10 point buff to each stat, it would have the same BST as the Mega Mewtwos and Mega Ray.

I also feel that the BW series Mewtwo is incredibly underrated. It was different, but still interesting. And having it interact and even battle against what is essentially its Generation V counterpart, Genesect, was really nice to witness.
Iirc, (she?) is weaker than her OG counterpart. I don't believe that he would have relied on Mega Evolution.

All 4 Mewtwo's abilities (Pressure, Unnerve, Insomnia, Steadfast) are as good as just some random placeholders with Pressure being slightly more usable than the others.

I've only much known the movie. I just love Mewtwo too much. Shame though Mewtwo made Ash, Misty, Brock, team rocket and all others forget about what they faced in the movie. Also don't forget when Gary, ash's first rival list battle against Mewtwo, would be so surprised if he found out that Pokémon he battled was Mewtwo and Ash was brave enough to stop him by sacrificing himself for all the Pokémon. Why not do a video about Zygard next😉

Mewtwo is a badass. He's powerful af and doesn't give up for any reason. Also I liked how Ash recognizes him during journeys (Mewtwo doesn't show it because he's not sentimental toward humans lol)
I have a Mewtwo in Pokémon Sword, and I decided to check it’s memories. It was practicing Recover in the box, hoping I would praise it, and it got teary eyed. I ended up replacing my Hatterene named Mad Hatter for Mewtwo. I am a soft individual.
Mewtwo was specifically bred to be the most powerful battle pokemon. So while he doesn't have the ability to control the weather or any other such legendary nonsense, if you put him 1v1 against any other pokemon, he'd probably win.
Depends on the set. For example, a set consisting of Psystrike/Recover/Calm Mind/Aura Sphere has nothing to touch Spiritomb and Sabeleye. Also, were you referring to the games, because in the anime, he can control the weather on at minimum a planetary scale.
How to get Mew, you have to make eye contact with the hiker near Celadon city, which is a symbol of staying a battle, enforced by Pokémon, but then fly off to north of Cerulean city and take a specific path to fight the slowpoke guy, then go to Lavender Town and move left and then Mew comes to battle you for breaking the rules of the game.

also in the cut intro of Pokemon the first movie, Amber explains how the tears of pokemon are filled with life, which at least tries to explain why Ash is able to be revived through the tears of pokemon

A thought I had watching this video: I'd love to watch a video reimagining the Unown to match better with the lore. Looking at the manga and anime would just make such a video stronger.
Birds aside, he was the first. And coming from someone who hasn't followed since the beginning, yea, it holds alot of weight lol.. I know there are tons of other legendary pokemon out there now, but nothing screams LEGEND to me like Mewtwo. I hope they bring it back into the new gen fold.

To be honest, my favorite Mewtwo moments were games (partly because of smash bros), anime (because of pokemon origins), and manga.

Mew2 is the best pokemon ever BECAUSE he his the only Pokemon who is also human or the nearest to what we consider humans.
The fact that the first pokemon movie is so deep with philosophical theme proves it. Mew2 ask himself throughout the movie the exact same question we humans, as a specie, has been asking ourselve since the dawn of time. What is my purpose in life? Why am I here? Why do I exist? What defines me? In the end, mew2 discover that the meaning to his existence and the meaning of life is determinated not by fate, other or by determinism but by himself alone. His existence and his purpose depend on his own choice and action and it is through these that he can fin his inner peace and the will to live.
As a philosophical geek like me this is truly wonderful and even as a young child, I could relate to his struggle and his question. He his a deep and well developped anti-hero or villain with a great redemption arc.
I even have a tatoo of him on my arm and i've mained him in every smash game since melee. YES I AM THIS GEEK WITH MEW2!! I have no regrets.

I have a theory that mewtwo also has giovannis dna, because mewtwo looks like mew but humanoid and since team rocket funded the cloning of mew and mewtwo sounds like Giovanni, he could have put in his dna since they only got a eyelash and not a bigger part they had to use another creature to fill in the blanks which Giovanni may have decided to use it. After all, he was going to use mewtwo for his evildoings.

Great video (like usual)! I also have a ton of nostalgia for the 1st Pokemon movie; I remember watching it when I was like 6 and my sister was about 4. She was obsessed with Mew (she still is and she turns 21 in a few months). Could you do a video about Lugia and/or Ho-Oh? Those two are some of my favorites. Honestly just do videos on all the legendaries.

I watched this video because many still haven't uncovered the original mew project... Omega Red!
There's only one way to find the original mew project, in pokemon stadium when you have missingno and mewtwo transfered to pokemon stadium for n64.
To see omega red, you have to capture missingno and transfer it to pokemon stadium n64, then transfer mewtwo to n64 but you have to capture them while using the n64 adapter that connects to n64 control and play the game in pokemon stadium.
Then omega red is there with boosted stats and is the strongest pokemon in the game.
You can get omega red in new games when they make a remake of pokemon stadium for The switch, in the new pokemon stadium remake, you can purchase downloadable content in Tue game that is red, blue and yellow, then you can transfer the pokemon in the remake and have omega red in scarlet and violet after several years pass, making scarlet and violet a really good game after several years passed. So omega red will be the only mewtwo with The move transform because it will have the pokemon stadium mark on it, it's the only way to have a mewtwo with the move transform.
How I know? Because after several years of playing pokemon I decided to back track and found out The truth in The game meaning it was meant for people who love the game to find out.
