Hi Hila, im Mexican so tamales are a must in our home every year for Christmas! A little trick so your hands don't burn after peeling the peppers, take a little bit of butter and rub it all over your hands like you would lotion and wash your hands right away once you're finished peeling them, your hands will not burn and they'll be super soft afterwards!😄 Btw- those look so delicious, I can't wait for Christmas!!😋😋
I'm all about Cruelty Free Vegan Tamales... which would be super easy to make using this recipe, too! Just swap out the animal products with plant versions, and VOILA! ... or should I say, OLE! Happy Holidays, Hilah! :-)
Hilah Cooking - Hola from Albuquerque. Mole chicken tamales with roasted hatch green chilies and asadero, served with calabacitas, fresh corn-pomegranate salad, and hot sopapillas. Goes great with any tequila!
THANK YOU for making this video. We used to be 20 minutes from Mexican Town in Detroit and they had the most amazing jalapeno and cheese tamales. My husband is Mexican so I'm sure he'll be so excited when I whip out this recipe for him. :)
Great job Hilah! But you may want to spread the masa wider so that you do not have to flip flop the sides to get it to close. Also you can roll in from one side to the other and not have to use ties at all. This is the way my Mexican grandma (RIP) Taught me how to make them. Love you Hilah!!!
I am going to make jackfruit tamales Soon.. if you slow cook onions and peppers with this before hand, it looks and tastes like pulled pork.. but, you know.. vegetarian. So exciting!! your recipe video makes it look so easy. AND your funny, enjoyed watching it over and over.. till I know it by heart.
Hey Hilah! You inspired me to Learn to Cook right after a sad breakup with your pork chop recipe years and years ago. Anywho, Request: Mole Sauce? You're the best :) A thousand thank yous Rich
I thought I had to completely encase the filling like a burrito. So the last time I tried tamales it was a huge fat mess. Thank you for showing me the better way. Can't wait to make tamales of all kinds now!
I loved your recipe!! I’m going to make them ASAP. my friend asks what makes the dough fluffy!? just the butter and broth? or did you add baking powder like other tradicional recipes!?
I made your homemade hot sauce the day after you posted the video. It now goes on EVERYTHING! I would be tempted to put it in these tamales instead of the salsa verde, :) You're not kidding about the masa expanding during cooking. The first time I made them, I unwittingly put too much into the corn husks and I could barely finish 1 tamale at dinner! My husband and I felt like we had eaten an entire loaf of bread! Very filling! :D
The only time I make tamales is when I feel like torturing myself lol. I don't make just a dozen or so, I go all out and make 100-200! We scarf them down in a week. I ❤️ tamales!!! I might just have to make your recipe too!!! Thanks
we use a comal, or if you don't have one, a coffee cup in the middle to help support the tamales if you're making a buttload. also, I find it commendable you'd make tamales without having a huge tamalada =]
Hi, Hilah. That vegetarian Latino dish looks fantastic. What's the best fruit to make a healthy fruit salad? I wish you a joyous Merry Christmas, Hilah.
hi hila! im mexican and my mother make those tamales but she uses panela and salsa roja instead of monterrey and salsa verde... try it some time, taste so good too! happy holidays u all guys! ✨🎄✨
I'm in France and I was just wondering how I could get my hands on masa harina!! I got a hankerin for pupusas. Really happy to hear Amazon has me covered :)
Elizabeth lyons-beal in holland there are mexican web shops that have everything! I even know a few shops that have massa in holland. I think that there will be a web shop also in France. I wouldn't order from amazon, to unreliable with quality.
Will definitely try this recipe, I'll just make it vegan, easy fix! And I saw you while on snapchat for the Food Network feed, I was like "omg, that's Hilah!" Awesome
omg yayyyyyy!!! I would love to see how big he is now!!! My baby is 19 months and she loves to help momma cook... kind of... more like watch momma cook :-) Thanks for another great video! Happy Holidays to you!
i am a bit surprised by this video, mostly because I live in Mexico city where you can find tamales at every single corner and every time I order one of this rajas con queso tamal, it is always filled with red sauce, rajas and cotija cheese. But your recipe sounds amazing, I love salsa verde with everything and Manchego is one of my favourite cheeses ever so I will try this and I hope is amazing. Anyway, I'm glad I found your channel again, for some reason I lost track of Hilah Cooking, I think RUclips unsubscribed me or something but I subscribed again. Have you tried Tamales Oaxaqueños? those are bigger than traditional tamales and insted of using corn husks you use banana leaves. The salsa verde one with chicken is the best.
+Emmanuel Campero that sounds great! I don't think I've seen tamales oaxaqueños, are they kind of like Guatemalan tamales? I've made those and they are good! Glad to have you back! 😊
I just googled Guatemalan tamales and yeah, you could say they are the same thing. I'm not sure what they use for filling but Oaxaqueños could be filled with green sauce and chicken, mole, red sauce and pork, and lots of things. I love them.
Hilah!!! I am a vegetarian and was waiting to see this recipe. Thank you so much 😘. What woul be some other things that are eaten with this? Is this a main dish or a side dish?
hola hilah. Just wanted to let you know that I love watching your videos. You are really funny. I laugh a lot. specially cuz you are a rude lady. meaning GROCERA IN ESPANOL. TAKE CARE HILAH
Adriene sent me here too. What's that dough mixing machine I have to buy to make these called? PS I ALMOST ruined my Cuisinart stainless steel extra large pan making potato latkes yesterday. Worked good the first time. 2nd time i deviated from your recipe. Pss- can we get this recipe but w pork in it too pls?
i love my meat clever! I'am Lost with out it! Tell ya a secret! > Use saran warp to spread out the Masa on the corn husk, more consist, less messy and faster. Be sure its on the smooth side of the corn husk! Another secret > make station to do it in Meat, Masa, sauce, broth, corn husk, and a place to fold em, a pot to put em in i make packs of 12 wrap butcher string around em Once Steamed 2 HOURS A MUST > saran wrap em place them in foil and FREEZE EM
Hmm, now to see if I can get masa in NZ. Corn Husks wont be hard to come by as even if I can't find them, I can make them with the corn season starting. EDIT: I can get everything in my country! and more. I didn't realise how much I could get.
love tamales but not much of of a fan of masa harina, there's a tortillaria fairly close by and I try to buy some of their left over fresh masa...makes all the difference!
Brandon Farris channel used your video to make his tamales.. you gotta watch.. :)

+Naomi Swinehart omg I would need lots of assistants to make that many!!
we use a comal, or if you don't have one, a coffee cup in the middle to help support the tamales if you're making a buttload.
also, I find it commendable you'd make tamales without having a huge tamalada =]
Hi, Hilah. That vegetarian Latino dish looks fantastic. What's the best fruit to make a healthy fruit salad? I wish you a joyous Merry Christmas, Hilah.

+Kelly C yes just cover the mass with plastic so it doesn't dry out

+Crystal Young I've frozen them after steaming and they thaw out a mind reheat perfectly. Never have frozen before steaming, though
+Hilah Cooking thank you! We made these today and they are delicious!
she kinda looks like pheobe from friends!! :)
Hilah could I try this recipe with a small roaster?
+Erika Kaufman to cook them? I'm not sure what you mean. They have to steam

Banana leaves is also a good alternate to corn husk
+syoma fukasaku yes, thanks!
