@@joewest1002 I fell in love with _Elevator_ when I was a kid; it was read by the actress Elaine Stritch on _Jackanory_ (a reading tv programme for children) and she made it so funny we were in hysterics.
Maybe the mixed response to the first movie, Tim Burton's vision & Depp's performance. Although they made a sequel to Alice in Wonderland so who knows!
@@joewest1002 The story was constantly switching between Charlie and President Gilligrass, and would spend more time with the President than it would with Charlie, add that with the fact that the movie would have to cut and shorten some parts of the book, it would lead to a much more insignifcant and lacking story on Charlie's side. (That and there would be quite a few parts of Gilligrass's story that would be considered unacceptable today). In addition, halfway through the book, it cuts to an entirely different storyline that is completely irrelevant to the first one. It was was a rather weird concept and transition in the book, and I can't see it working in a movie format, without it being abridged to the point it loses most of its charm.

Unusually for a sequel novel, _Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator_ is actually better than its predecessor _Charlie and the Chocolate Factory._

Fair points, to be fair. Dahl's take on the US cabinet is playful, and the scope might be grander than any of his novels.
