There is a fair bit of stretch in the climbing ropes, maybe as much as 10%. All the stretch would really do is soften any jerk that you may run into in the swing. If you wanted an absolute maximum for the speed, all you would need to do is use L=33m instead of L=30.
Thanks, I've got a couple of more talky ones getting prepped, but I also have my candidacy exam this semester so it's a bit of a juggling act :P That said, thanks a lot for subscribing, I think you're the first none-friend to do so!
I know nothing about using ropes and only a bit more about physics, but do you have to take in account the elasticity of the rope? I'm just thinking about people jumping of bridges with the elastic bands.
Half of me really wants to try this, and the other half thinks that I might be certifiable. It looks so awesome, but then I remember that time I tried to cross the old railway bridge in Goldstream -- let's just say that didn't happen.
It's funny, when you first get out there that trestle is pretty vertigo inducing, but after spending a couple of hours on it you sort of forget about the height... until you try jumping.
this is taking physics to a whole other level.
Glad you liked it, it was my first attempt at video making.
I just found your channel today when searching for responses to Veritasium's bullet and block puzzle.
Really enjoyed this vid!

Probably Christopher Eccleston. I know the actor had a falling out with the show, but I really liked how he portrayed the Doctor.

Good way to prove you believe in science, physics is not my strong point due to maths, but chemistry and biology I have a BSC hon degree.
and I was hoping for a TARDIS... but thanks!

I was just happy not to hit anything, one of my friends skimmed the trees!

It has been corrected, thanks :)
Did you factor in Ball Size ? I think mine would be too small.
