there is this old book called "the iron pilot" or something. it was written by hans ulrich rudel, it contains his memories as a stuka pilot on the eastern front during ww2... well he was and still is one of the most decorated soldiers of all time. he destroyed hundreds of tanks, trucks, planes, he even sunk a battleship. anyway, the book cover from start to finish the war on the eastern front, and it's specially interesting to me the last chapter. beeing a well known and decorated pilot, he met the top nazis many times, hilter included. and his last mission is interesting. while berlin was under siege, he lift off with a small plane with the mission to land in berlin in a makeshift airstrip and save the fhurer. he describes his night flight over germany, the remnants of the nazi empire burning, the battle benheat him, the crumbling of the world he fought for under his plane. all the pain and deaths and pure evilness, all for nothing. it's an interesting read.

Russia unlike american in their war movie mostly Show German as just following order,
Only politician or wannabe soldier like SS are bad, most are following order and some like the main antagonist the German officer just likes to fight, he doesn't care if you are russian or not , he just wanna fight to his heart content.
Also ordinary German citizens while being looted by escapee Russian pow, seeing russian prisoner only get vegetables as loot in the German town, offers the Russian soldier some meat subtlety,
Also German church offer russian prisoner clothes when they were looting for food.

Before WW1 it was just a small movement for the most down and out workers. WW1 blew it up into a huge thing, driven by mass rage at the people profiteering from the war and the "elites" who were responsible for it.
The Germans then smuggled one of the biggest names in Russias anti establishment movement back into Russia and helped fan the flames of revolution in the hope of taking Russia out of the war.

As for WW1 and communism. It cannot be understated how much that war drove up hatred of capitalism. One French soldier being sent to the front line reported arriving to see over 30 thousand deserters shouting about the things they wanted to do to the capitalists (youtube filters that sentence but it's pretty obvious, begins with a word that rhymes with deaf). This kind of thing became increasingly common place in all the armies. The modern form of communism may have been penned in London and warped into state communism in Russia but it grew in the trenches.
Without WW1 there would have been no aggressive communist wave

Yeah no. The Americans did actually prosecute individuals involved in the massacre of prisoners. For example, two massacres of Italian prisoners after the Invasion of the country. The Germans promoted those who committedsuch acts.
      Don't be naive.

My great grandad was saved by a German soldier during World War 2. If it wasn't for him, me and all my family I know today would cease to exist. They swapped uniforms after the war and my family in Wales still have it, I wish I could find his family and express my gratitude 🙏

I still remember my great grandfather was part of the general German army and served in a Tiger I and he told me tales of things like this, where he and his crew would spend nights in the tank speaking about what they witnessed like in these scenes and they asked themselves if they were on the right side when so many were against them. They eventually were told via radio about the Nazi concentration camps and he had enough, he drove his tiger with a massive white flag and the turret facing behind away from American front lines. US command in the area after realizing what their intentions was and quickly absorbed them into ranks and they found themselves fighting Nazi hold outs in the mountains all over after Hitler called out for guerilla warfare. I'll never forget him telling me these tales late at night around a fireplace. He said he always suspected the Nazi's were doing creepy and horrible things behind the scenes but left it at hear say and rumor, but near the end of the war when no one cared in the ranks of the Nazis he saw their true colors and what they thought. I'm glad I could experience third person what he saw for reals.........so fucking chilling....

People often overlook the fact regular Warmacht or German Army troops were not nazis but fought for germany. Many had realizations like this. Many died in the hands of SS. It wasnt easy.

Most of Battlefield Vs stories were eather garbage or just boring. But the Intro and The Last Tiger truely were something. A truely cinematic story, close to the movie Fury but from the german perspective and still having it's own believeable tone.
