Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are based in the Paldea region, and they are coming out later this year! I wanted to see what ideas we could come up with for what the fossil Pokemon might be this generation... IF ANY! We narrowed down our ideas to the two best of them, and so here they are! You can call them Pokemon Scarlet and Violet predictions if you want, but we're really just having fun with the theme. :)

Gnoggin, hosted by its creator Lockstin, is a show delving into the mysteries of Pokemon! (and other games sometimes too). Explaining everything there is to explain! Why is each Pokemon given the type it has? What are their origins? What is the lore of the Pokemon world and the design inspirations? And what does it all have to do with alchemy? @@the_kamikaze_pilot1300 lmao
@@the_kamikaze_pilot1300 thats how I act-
10:18 They also kind of invert the generation's theme of past vs future in an interesting way. The sleek, metallic, more intelligent looking one is a sword fighter. Where as the more technically advanced one looks more like a brutish beast.
Inverted AND played straight, honestly. Early guns like arquebuses were brutish weapons, pretty rudimentary. They harnessed the basic principle behind a gun [expanding gas shoves small weight forward very fast] and not much else. Conversely, rapiers came along very LATE in the lifespan of swords used as viable weapons, and were expensive, highly-refined pieces of technology that required practice and training to use effectively. In the (relatively) brief period of time where firearms and blades overlapped as common combat-dominating weapons of choice, the gun was primitive and clunky, while the sword was elegant and advanced.
Kyarrbon is actually quite similar to Turtenator. If Kyarrbon were canon, it would most definitely be Turtenator’s ancestor
Same I imagine as ornimean and skarmoury
paradox turtenator
For Kyarrbon and Barrel Blast, I'm imagining it having a new ability where it takes half damage from all 'explosive moves' (Self Destruct, Explosion, Misty Explosion, etc) and as for Barrel Blast, maybe the first time you use it, it acts like Boomburst where it attacks everyone on the field, but also damages Kyarrbon for 1/4th of it's max HP (losing your tail hurts), then it goes into its "No Tail Form" and Barrel Blast becomes a move like Bullet Seed where it's a multi-hit attack. Maybe have the first version be Physical and the second be Special.
Or a really cool (although admittedly not super competitively viable but neither is yours aha) alternate idea would be that if an explosive move is used on it, because Kyarrbon would also explode if something exploded near him, the Pokémon who uses an explosive move on him receives damage equivalent to 25% of their total HP. It wouldn’t be super useful if it was just explosive moves though. Maybe if any Fire-type damaging move or explosion-based move is used on it? That would be cool.
@@wolfiemuse You could call it something like Backfire, Blast Zone, or Combustible
@@aceospades99 ooooooh that’s good. I like Blast Zone
OR HOW ABOUT THIS
I have a quite complex idea for Kyarrbon
It's a Rock/Steel type with high attack and really physical defensive, pretty simple right? But i have something to make this interesting...
Its signature move *Barrel Blast* is a really strong Physical Attack, but it has some kind of cooldown which makes it can only be used 4 turns after it's used
It's ability is called Exploded Armor, the effect is "When Kyarrbon use its signature *Barrel Blast* its type changed to Rock/Fire and Swapping its High Attack stats with its Special Attack and It's Defense with Special Defense and when the Cooldown of *Barrel Blast* is over its change its typing to Rock/Steel and swapped the Special attack to its Attack and Special defense to its Defense"
Why its heppening? Well what I had in mind is.. When Kyarrbon use Barrel Blast, its broke his armor and the barrel tail which is why its loses the Steel type and makes its attack and defense low. But while it's happening, the fire inside it Burns up and makes new armor made of heat and his Rifle like tail is ready to shot some hot flames to its opponent, which is why its Special defense and Special attack are raising, replacing its very high Defense and Attack... But after 4 turns its armor came back(idk why its happening, but i think it's balancing Kyarrbon, no?) And makes Kyarrbon gaining back its steel type and get rid of its fire type
@@wolfiemuse ^
I would love it if Game Freak did a "Journey to the Center of the Earth" region full of classic and new fossil pokemon. Exploring a region lost to time would be dope.
Yus that would be so cool
I think i read a book and watch a movie about that.
Thanks so much for the idea, I will not use it.
Thing is I was thinking of what gen ten would be like a followup the time thing of gen 9 (or gen 5’s whole “reboot” idea will happen again but let’s not worry about that) which would obviously be space, and I basically thinking “outer space and…uh…………uuuuhhhh. Underground. Wait no that’s too boring in comparison, um, MULTIVERSE, no wait that’s too cool in comparison, and Pokémon lore. *what* *do* *I* *do* “ But a uncharted region would be perfect.
A cool thing they could do for Scarlet is basically "de-rock" the fossils, aka show them to us in their original appearances before the reviving machine altered them… but we all know they're chicken and would never do that.
galar fossils?
@@sassas1487 the only problem with that is that they aren’t what the ancient pokemon actually looked like, they were fusions, based on how the first palaeontologists would just fit whatever they found together and call it a dinosaur. I can appreciate the lack of the rock type though.
I think it would be neat if they capitalize on the past/future gimmick the legendaries seem to be using. Give us two forms for the two fossils for each version. The X/Rock type, representing the traditional fossil trend and Muraidon's future theme. Then maybe give us the pure form, heck for all fossil pokemon. Give us the original form of the fossilmon as 'Paldean' or just Koraidon Past themed versions of each.
I mean, they are going for open world, and they have been doing some experimenting. Who knows, maybe they'll do something like this after all?
Oh yeah, and remove the rock type
I couldn't tell if I missed a news drop or if these designs on the thumbnail were yours, you and the artists always to a great job!
Ngl designs are great but there’s something about most of these designs that always are very clearly fan Pokémon for me. I love them nonetheless and maybe I’d think differently if they were shown by Pokémon instead of Lockstin, who knows. But I do like them
Same. As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I started scrolling down the subscription feed 😂 These mons are great.
same
Ditto at first, especially since the face of the 2nd one actually looked a lot like a leaked screen photo someone posted of a “fish” Pokémon. Thought it might of been a mistake that they called it a fish in the leak when saw the art. But makes more sense he just happened to come up with something that looked similar to an actual Pokémon that ends up in game.
For reference sake, the Spanish word for a rapier is an "Estoque" with "Estocada" being the word for the traditional frontal stab.
As for the "Furia" attack, I think that could fit really well, specially now they are fixing the competitive item and there's a specific item called "Loaded dice" from the last trailer at this point which augments the chances of attacks to hit multiple times
But it would lead to translation issues considering that in the Spanish version of the games Fury attack is already called Furia
@@wildfi5514 not really, it could be just changed a little in the Spanish version, wouldn't be the first time.
@@wildfi5514 well fury attack is called ataque furia not just furia, still kinda way too close though
@@notafan3949 wait I'm spanish lmao it's just that I just remembered furia from like second gen, you know, the one that the more you use it the more damage it deals. Idk if they changed the name in later generations tho
Pretty sure it's always been ataque furia
Gnoggin: "why is this Pokémon even X type? It only learns Y type moves!"
Also: "it should be rock fire type but should learn a lot of steel moves"
well in the past he has said that it's more like a pokemon with a fiery appearance is not the same as one with a fiery moveset or elemental ability. Moltres is all fire...and also uses fire-moves but also can learn flying moves like skydrop, since it has dual typing. Heck Charmander can learn metal claw.

These are really good I heard a leak saying that there would be no fossil Pokémon at all in this game I hope that is not true fossils are really cool and having none not even previous ones should be a shame
sadly it is true their will be no fossils
I understand why because fossils have everything to do with the past and scarlet and violet are past and future so it wouldn’t make sense for violet
I mean Alola had a reason, Johto was before normal standards were in place for tropes of Pokémon every game, there's no reason not to have fossils here.
@@Flaminhotbagel what if in the future humanity vanished. and we had to be revived as pokemons. therefore in Paldea, you can find the Sapiens fossil from the future which are gonna be pokemon versions of us :(
nvm i'm drunk
I think Kyarrbon should have a new signature ability called Carbonize. The way this ability works is that after the user uses Barrel Blast, they can return to the trainer and when healed in the player inventory and sent back out again, their hammer tail will be restored. This ability is kind of like Zero to Hero in a way but requires a little more action to it.
Honestly I really like the Ankylo one, the Ornithimisus one however should probably be dark and rock
I know its a dinosaur but it doesnt look rock type at all
Why not just dark and steel?
Agreed, especially since we already have a rock/steel fossil with Bastiodon.
@@slothape it should implement more rock details agree
@@slothape tbf anorith isn’t very rocky either
Kyarrbon now takes the cake as my all time favorite Lockémon. Like, ever. Of all time. Ankylosaurus is already my favorite dinosaur and one of my favorite animals in general, so to see it represented so well here while also adding that fun Pokémon twist (as to not just make a cartoon version of the animal), is absolutely astounding. I love Kyarrbon very much and oh so wish it was a real mon! ANK GO BOOM!!
These designs are incredible. I want them to be official so badly.
Just not that last ability. INTREPID SWORD X2???
The cool thing about these is that they reference Sword and Shield, with one having a shield motif and the other a sword.
However, it also references the mysterious Pokémon Gun (y'know, that meme that went around at SwSh launch).
Sword dancer would break the game. Even the gen 8 legendarys with the plus 1 attack/Defence are nearly game breaking. This doubled could be hard. Or the attack is minimalistic
Yeah I also commented that haha. The attack stat would have to be like 55-60 for that to be viable and it could still snowball out of control REALLY quick in a favorable matchup where it gets +2 on entry then +2 after KO, it’s attack stat is essentially doubled
Combine it with Cyclizar's free switch Substitute, and that's an instant W!
Even a Pokémon with the base attack stat of 50 or more, could ruin galaxy's with that ability.
@@tristandahn2284 oh gosh yeah I forgot about that ahaha
Zacian actually IS game-breaking in BOTH forms. Zamazenta is kinda useless tho.
I’d love to see an ancient battle between these two. Ornamean expertly jabbing while weaving around Kyarbon, before Kyarbon just slams its tail down and annihilates Ornamean
both of the fossil mons have a similar theme to armarouge and ceraludge with ceraludge beaing sneaky and dishonarable like the raptor, and armouroge being explosive just like the ankliorsaurus one
These are really cool ideas, I especially like how the two fossil mon compliment eachother.
I personally really want an auroch fossil mon, which yes I know isn't a prehistoric animal, but it's an extinct one whose range included Spain. It could be the ancestor to Tauros and the inevitable bull fighter bull Pokemon.
What we expected: stuff like from this vid
What we got: THE ENTIRE FOSSIL ARCHETYPE BEING ERASED FROM EXISTENCE
Not if you played Scarlet.
Heck, they're even still alive!
@@rjs4176 I’m pretty sure none of the fossil Pokémon are in S/V, but I mean, I could be wrong.
I thought they actually revealed the fossils and I was so confused
Honestly, they look great. They would even work as version exclusive fossils, thanks to the color schemes. Explosives in mines is still considered to be more old timey and less relevant nowadays, whereas fencing is still a common sport, even in university. Solid 10/10 mons
I imagine that it would be cool if archen was the eevee of the fossil pokemon, (because it is the ancestor of all bird pokemon) we could have a terror bird, a moa, a haast eagle, stuff like that
That could be cool if it were to have a form for all the regional birds for example
Cool concepts especially with Kyarbon. I would say though there is actually a very unique dinosaur first found in Spain being Concavenator which was a unique carcharadontosaur with a crest/hump for its back. If that dino could be a mon, I think a Rock/Fighting would be nice and design could be based on conquisadors and halberds. The names even match well with something like Conquisanator.
We kinda got that with Baxcalibur. It even has the same spiky quill things on its arms that scientists think Concavenator had.
I actually had a Ankylosaurus like toy as a kid and in my stories his spikes were basically mini volcanos that shot lava
I thought this was a news drop.. I love these ideas! They feel so unique and well-fitting. Though I think Ornamean should definitely be a rock-dark type if it can't be dark-steel, it's style screams dark type and it's name even has "mean" in it.
As a Spaniard I have to say that I loved them. The Ankylosaurus had always been my favourite dinosaur.
I've been wanting an Ankylosaurus fossil Mon since I first fell in love with Pokemon so I absolutely LOVE Kyarrbon
Really cool and interesting concepts, although the sword dancer ability would be absolutely broken
For real, it's like Zacian ability but better
This part about this is that sword and gun motif fits the past and future theme of scarlet and violet perfectly and I feel like that wasn't even on purpose.
10:26 when you showed both of them on screen I actually realised that the feathers on Ornamean's arms or wing actually resemble the dress and usual colors of a flamenco dancer I don't know if that was intentional or not but it actually blends with the design quite nicely
The new Furia move sounds especially good now after the reveal of a Loaded Dice item for Scarlet and Violet
These are very cool ideas! Albeit I feel it would be weird if there wasn't a Concavenator fossil mon. But yeah a Pelecanimimus and explosions fossil mon fits well, and Pelecanimimus is the second weirdest ornithomimosaurian (after Deinocheirus), it's strange the relative obscurity it has. It also has a flesh crest and I believe a throat pouch too but I'm not that sure on that one.
I was thinking the same thing of a Concavenator fossil mon.
The third ankylosaur skeleton is in drumheller and is fascinating to see in person
I love how they kinda invert the past future theme going. Were the past is scene as unkempt and wild, while the the future is depicted as clean and logical. Instead Kyarrbom despite being the future weapon of firearm looks rough, and chaotic, while Ornamean represents the past weapon of swords looks well kempt and calculating.
I like both designs, but I feel like ornamean isn’t exactly fossil-y enough, it looks more like an ostrich than a dinosaur
Ostriches ARE dinosaurs.
Hi lockstin, love your stuff :)
The "ARR" in Kyarrbon makes me think of pirates, which also happen to be Spain and Gunpowder themed.
I love the idea of fakemon episodes that aren't necessarily connected to a personally made region or anything, just Lockstin getting his ideas out there.
So cool love your videos can I ask how’s the game going?
Yeah I know it’s expensive but it’s really good and I want to see what happens next
Pretty sure there are no fossils in this game. Which is strange, considering the region. But maybe some paradox forms have fossil inspirations in their designs to make up for it.
What are paredox forms whe already have the gimmick so what is that
@@joshuaconceicao6481 its from the leaks so if you dont want to get spoiled i guess you shouldn’t ask
@@joshuaconceicao6481 if you don’t know I won’t spoil you unless you really want to know
@@joshuaconceicao6481 paradox Pokemon (not officialy called Paradox pokemon) are pokemon like Koraidon and Miraidon. Koraidon is past form, and after years of evolution it turned into Miraidon. Different but same. Also the Cylizard or whatever the name is is probably the present version of them.
@@luka7678 at the moment we do believe that the official name will involve the word Paradox. It would fit nicely.
If scarlet and violet had fossil Pokemon, I think that is violet you gotta revive them, but in scarlet, it's a rare spawn in area zero
I love how much fun Lockstin's having with this!
I really like these Pokemon and the inspiration, however to my mind Steel / Fire and Steel / Dark would better suit them (since we already gave up on the "always rock type fossils" and those two combinations are still rare). This time Steel could be their shared type ! 🦾
I'd like to see the fossils from gen 8 get completed versions, in addition to getting new fossil pokemon. Knowing pokemon, though, I'm probably expecting too much
I’m not sure if we will ever see the completed fossils
I was asking for Paradox forms for the Kaskade region.
I have been drawing fakemon lately, and two on my list are fossil pokemon based on the Ankylosaur and the Paralophosaurus. Ankylosaur for me would be Rock/Fighting focusing on it's tail and back armor, while the Paralophosaurus would be Rock/Normal with sound based moves and qualities. I'll be sure to include them in a video once I find the time to draw them out!
The bird one is a great design but doesn’t look enough like a fossil in my opinion
I would be disappointed if Scarlet and Violet does not have fossil Pokemon, I mean there is so much potential for the game to feature dinosaurs from Spain
I’m pretty sure there isn’t any fossil Pokémon in scarlet and violet
Who’s gonna tell ‘em?
5:31 makes it almost seem like an ancient turtonator, and I dig it!
I approve of Ankylosaurs! They're my fav dinos!
Sadly I heard there might be no fossil Pokémon
Sadly I heard the same
It’s a shame
We could have gotten Stegosaurus or Concavonator Pokemon because this is based in Spain
It really is unfortunate.
This upsets me greatly.
@@respectfullyrazerian2154 yeah, like imagine what they could have done with the fossil Pokemon in a region based in Spain
Oh well
I think they just should be rock fire and dark steel, my theory is that rock was very useful for surviving in the pre-modern pokemon ages witch means not every fossile Pokémon should be rock type
These fossils are so cool, and I'm so glad you got one of my favorite artists for the Pokemon art! Honestly though, this just makes me want to see the baby forms of these guys! Something tells me they'd be super cute!!
had to stop rewatching the kaskade region playlist for like the 5th time to watch this, and your videos never disappoint. top tier content, and I can't wait for the games to come out for you to do in-depth videos on the new pokemon designs and origin!
Another Iberian fossils, that we haven't seen as pokemon, are the Barionix (with 4 species known in the Iberian peninsula) being a piscivorous dinosaur, it could be also inspired by the submarine, the inventor of the first modern submarine was a Spanish scientist, Isaac Peral (I also think that we should look more into non-weapon related inventions for more Pokémons) it should be Rock/Water and learn electric moves or Rock/Electric and learn water moves (as the Peral Submarine was the first fully electric submarine). it could be called Subperyx (submarine + Peral + Barionyx)
for the second fossil, there are a bunch of interesting looking Iberian prehistoric animals, such as the Concavenator, but I think a cool one could be the Iberomesornix (Ibero meaning that it comes form the Iberian peninsula), a very small prehistoric bird from the cretacic, it could be a Rock/Fairy that learns flying moves (the precursor of the Helicopter, the "Autogiro" or "Girocoptero" was also invented by a Spaniard, Juan de la Cierva) so we could have a submarine pokemon and a "proto-helicopter" one
I really loved the pokémon and the concepts behind them, and now I'm thinking on the fossil designs itself. Maybe the Kyarrbon one is a piece of his armor, a 'plate fossil', and a teeth or upper jaw for the Ornamean, 'blade fossil'.
The contrast of the two with one sword and one gun i love
Ankylosaurus is my favorite dinosaur, and Kyarrbon does the idea justice. Would 100% be on my team if real
I LOVE the concept of Kyarbon! It's So cool!
I had an alternative idea for Ornamean's Ability: Riposte (a return thrust in fencing). When a move targets and misses the Pokemon, it makes a riposte against the attacker, dealing 33% of the attacker's max HP.
As for Barrel Blast, I was thinking of it being a 150 base power Fire type move with 100 accuracy, but after the first use its base power is halved. It only regains its original power after Kyarrbon faints and is revived (or when the battle ends obv).

But after 4 turns its armor came back(idk why its happening, but i think it's balancing Kyarrbon, no?) And makes Kyarrbon gaining back its steel type and get rid of its fire type
Is this a good Idea?
Ornamean looks like the kind of comical villain that would plot against Vergo's OC dinosaurs
I always love your concepts for Pokémon. You put so much thought and care into the details!
Ok heres my idea, what if ornamean had a signature ability that naturally increases its accuracy and critical hit rate, but when low health (about red or maybe yellow) its feathers ruffle up, lowering its accuracy and crit but raising its attack and special attack? It could be called something fancy yet ferocious like “noble fury” or “ruffled focus”
@@im-yas thats the same idea i had for kyarrbon although i think just keeping it at rock/fire would balance it a bit more since its already jumping through stats like a chihuahua hops through rings at a dog contest so maybe also having type changing into the mix might make it a bit weird or complex
Lockstin, you really have a gift for this! These are great- this, your project region, all of it!
As a Spanish person myself, I think you integrated the concepts VERY well into Pokémon format. The execution is excelent and the ideas top-notch. Nothing less to expect from you Lockstin!
Love the designs and the concepts, plus Vergo’s art is always excellent so thats a plus
I don’t think we desperately need *even more* dinosaur pokemon, but at least these were more interesting and obscure dinosaurs. I definitely prefer the Pelicanimimus pokemon, love ornithomimosaurs and i had never heard of Toledo Steel before.
I loved the anky and orth in this, this was so well put and I hope these are the Pokemon we get
Another absolute win. I look forward to these fakemon videos every time. :D
I had an interesting idea regarding pre-evolutions for these two is this:
Both Kyarrbon and Ornamean's pre-evolutions would be pure Rock-Type... but did learn Fire and Steel attacks respectively before evolving. That could be a metaphor for how weapon technologies need to be studied and refined.
its a good day when lockstin & gnoggin uploads.
I could see Kyarrbon being a rock/fire type with the Steelworker ability so that it's large list of steel type moves are just that more effective. I could see it also having Bulletproof and Shell Armor.
Fantastic designs and ideas
I think these two are my faves of all the ones you’ve created!!
I love them! Especially Kyarrbon; though that's to be expected, since ankylosaurs are my favorite dinosaurs
lovely artwork and really cool fossil ideas !! always love a good mon making video and everything ties in so well
The thing about Pelecaimimus (Pel-Leh-Kan-ih-My-mus) is that its teeth & beak we’re not thought to rip out the guts of its prey, but for snatching fish along rivers & lakes like a crane or heron. Especially since part of its fossil discovery is the presence of a soft tissue throat pouch, like a modern day pelican.
I really like the ideas! Wish I could read more on Toledo Steel, though, I'm not finding anything on the metal itself
don't diss on the cambrian! The whole Paleozoic is rad and severely underrated. Also, nomination for Haztegopteryx as a potential fossil too. It wasn't discovered in the iberian Peninsula but it predated around the ancient islands that today is Modern Europe, and it's super cool! Perhaps it could be a bonus Fossil Pokemon similar to Aerodactyl
I like how Kyarrbons tail both looks like a explosive barrel and a cartoon hammer
I love Vergo’s art, great choice for an artist
That one ankylosaur fossil's spikes look like a giant leaf on it's back, so Rock Grass would be neat.
I also love that one is kinda reddish and the other is slightly purple nice touch for the game ideas
Really love them both! Definitely hard-lean toward the bird one! Wish it had an actual bad ass blade though 😼🔥
Lockstin: makes Sword and Gun-themed Pokémon
Game Freak: releases Ceruledge and Armarouge
These were incredible designs. Superb video editing and pacing as always
I thought, Barrel Blast after it is used once, the second time around it becomes a multiple hit attack(like maybe double slap or gains power after each turn used in a row). Yes, I think these two would be excellent additions.
I think they both look fantastic, I would be stuck up on which one to choose! Definitely keep commissioning this artist for fakemon videos. The only problem is that the rock type is a bit too hard to see in Ornamean's design, and I would assume its a mix of the flying/steel/dark types.
I was literally looking for a new trailer when I saw these
I know it has nothing to do with the actual region, but i really want a giant sloth. Just a huge groudon sized behemoth with giant claws and a normal/rock typing
I love the concept!!,I'd also love to see some concepts for pre-evos and the fossil designs maybe?
...I think it probably says something about me that I intantly recognized one of the nodosaur fossils that was shown for a few seconds on screen. Hooray for Borealopelta markmitchelli!
Okay, that design of having a gunpowder barrel exploding, and then a gun barrel firing both covered under "Barrel Blast" is genius.
Both of them sound cool.
Over a year ago I designed my own Fossil Pokémon it was an Ice type
Sabre Tooth Tiger had a baby form and an adult form. This was quite a project.
I do think it’s cool that they both refrerence the past and future of weapons, fitting the whole theme of Scarlet and Violet
