This week Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would have celebrated his 160th anniversary. To celebrate, the UK released a brand new Sherlock Holmes 50p in his honour, one of the world's coolest coins. I visited Baker Street to do some detective work of my own!

It looks like you had loads of fun on your detective mission in London and you were even lucky enough to find a few more coins to add to your Change Checker album! Great video Chris, thanks for sharing :)
I found one myself its a great coin!
Give me Kew Gardens!!!😁😁
I have that
Luke Alford i have one as well
I found a 50p that’s worth like £15
THIS is how to properly do a sponsored video
I like they way you don't labour the point about the change checker app the second time you use it - you've already explained it once, you just get on and show yourself using it a second time. You get the tone just right.
Was the video sponsored? I didn't notice
@@bilalt.6849 Me too!
True as heck.
Yes using it and not how amazing the app is and you should go download it because it’s amazing no he actually shows myself using it rather than talking about the app and showing a short clip of him using it which shows nothing about the app
I didn't know the UK had so many different types of the same value coin!
Canada does that too... Is that not done everywhere?
@@mksabourinable the US does it a little but it's not nearly as cool
@@connorburbine9459 the us has boring coins
@@connorburbine9459 The state quarters are cool. They're about the same shape, size and colour as our 10p's, and therefore many have ended up being circulated in our country as people use them as 10p's without realising (Sherlock's point about people not being observant is true). My brother-in-law has collected all but 2 or 3 of the state quarters (I've only got 3 myself though), without ever setting foot in the US or carrying out a cash transaction in US dollars, which gives you an idea how often a quarter escapes the US and starts circulating here instead.
Yes We do.
As an enormous coin and Sherlock enthusiast, this was one of my favourite videos I’ve ever made. And don’t forget to check out the coin for £4.50 (+P&P) on the Change Checker website - this is my first EVER sponsored video, and I’m genuinely delighted to be working with a brand that so perfectly aligns with my channel - thank you Change Checker!
Is the Sherlock Holmes coin in circulation?
@@rosslascelles3002 Yes! :)
I love your videos man
Can i buy this coin outside UK? I’m from Indonesia. The website only ship to UK address and the international website didn’t have the sherlock coins
This is one of my favourite videos you've ever made as well! Really interesting stuff
That WWF coin is brilliant! I never knew it existed!
Really
Bruh I hate it how Americans don’t know about all the cool designs of the British coins. As a coin collector myself having a collection worth around £6450 they must be missing out.
@@ulifer3843 same but not to that extent. Probably edging to 1k
Black Duskull I have one
My favourite coin has to be the Beatrix Potter 50p, as I used to love her stories!
Good choice! :)
I have 5
Rob Heathcote I have all of them
The Benjamin Bunny one is cute
I have one
Yay! Another Half-Asleep Chris video!
My favourite coin i have is from 1775 and its over 240 years old
That coin is older than America! That's soooo cool!
What's on the coin?? That's super cool!
New Zealand only has one type of coin for each value, the only thing that changes is the year
Wish we were a little more interesting, but at least our notes are nice
We do have special coinage but they are not for normal circulation. We do have the ANZAC 50c pieces (the coloured ones) - there are two of them now and these are for circulation.
Interesting. Australia has special release coins all the time. Only coin we see regularly of yours over here is the 20c with the Kiwi on the front.
Mmmm instead they release commemorative stamps which are far cheaper to produce and far more likely to be destroyed.
lol, you said "change" #pun #fun
I remember once I found a Charles Dickens two pound coin and it was pretty cool!
I also have one of the Shakespeare coins.
My favorite coin is probably the America the Beautiful set. I can’t choose one! I found a 1958 Wheat Penny from a restaurant, and 2 1927 Wheat Pennies from the bank!
The ATB quarters are cool. I'd like to find all of them.
At 4:58 I thought my head’s gonna explode. 😂 great video ! Much love from France X
Haha, thanks a lot!
If you have spent 5 minutes on the internet you know who bumblebees cucumberbath is even if it's twisted beyond all recognition. Do you know who it is? Hint: Actor of Sherlock and Strange
Ohhhhh, Benadryl Cumquat!
Are you having a stroke?
Yes
Benendin cucumber!
No, let me fix that: If you've spent 5 minutes on *Tumblr* you'll know Butterfree Candlestick's name even if it's twisted beyond all recognition
2:43 This part with the letters is so well done!!
Thanks a lot! :)
I particularly love the Danish 2 and 5 Krone coins. They have holes in their middles so it has been a fun way to gift money to people by tying them on a string and attaching them to a small bonsai tree - a literal money tree.
awesome video, by the way, Chris :D
That's so cool! I'm gonna have to do that now! Thanks a lot :)
Hi Chris love your vids (especially the cat ones and the travel journal)
This has inspired me to start a coin collection
I’m on holiday and I’m having an amazing time but now you’ve uploaded this video, I’m going to go to a fun time looking for all these awesome coins so thanks a bunch, you are so inspiring
Good luck finding some and hope you have a great time here! :)
Thanks Chris
Thank you Chris very cool

YES! I’d love to get one of the Sherlock Holmes coins!
I have got 1 for sale
The sherlock coin looks amazing every coin has a beautiful history behind it may it be the most valuable to the least valuable there is history
One of the best modern pieces, and all his stories on it as well. Well designed.
what a beautiful love letter to coins! :) i'm so happy you got a sponsor, and such a fitting one as well! can't wait to see your channel grow x
Woah! Great video Chris! Keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot Isaac!
I like the Oklahoma quarter, the scissor tail bird is beautiful
I can't believe this channel doesn't have a million subscribers yet. I really like it. :) Just found your channel.
I really want one of these
I've had a few paddington bear 50p coins, but my favourite I've encountered was a pound coin from gibraltar that has a neanderthal skull on it.
I love the Paddington coins (and they're about to release 2 more!) - just googled that pound and it's super cool! :)
Since I live in a country that doesn't have any special money, i like finding old ones and seeing if anything changed.
This video is awesome!! Thanks for the tips that will surely come in handy on my next UK trip. 😉
Thanks! :)
What a brilliant channel! I watched this video and the fake houses one so far!
You made me start a coin collection and I need that coin
It's an amazing hobby and so cool that you've started!
Thanks
love the music and the train animation near the start. That was beautifully done
Thanks! I wrote / recorded the music specifically for this video, and that train animation took literally hours! :)
The desings of the two pound coins look amazing!

Oh yeah. Another Half-Asleep Chris Video!
Sherlock is just so cool! I can see in the video that this is one of your favorite videos! I love all your videos and I always love to see that there's alot of love and hard work in them.
That coin is awesome!
As a numismatist, I like the most, the American Morgan dollar.
Just looked it up - that's a really beautiful coin!
@@HalfAsleepChris it's the most popular coin in American Numismatics
Even every once in a while I'll find a wheat cent or candian penny.
Hey Chris, I just wanted to let you know keep up the great work. Your videos are amazing and inspirational, keep it up and keep making awesome videos!!
Thanks so much!
love that map that you used! So vintage!
Greetings from the USA! I too am a UK coin collector. I have gone back and have a coin from each monarch to the Restoration of Charles II I've picked up on the 50 p's too! Just keep posting I enjoy your tours to the source!
That's so cool, sounds like you have an awesome collection! Thanks :)
The idea of a bank and a museum fighting for the right to respond to fan letters addressed to a fictional sleuth made me just a wee bit emotional...
I feel kinda bad for the bank ngl
JUST finished watching Sherlock Holmes on Netflix, perfect timing!
That's amazing, hope you enjoyed it!
Half-Asleep Chris thanks, I loved it. Great video!
Woow! I'm from Mexico and I find everything about British culture very interesting, your videos are very cool and informative, now I want to start my own collection jajaja. Great job!
In AUS we have a $2 coin collection with coloured rings on them they’re really cool
The transition from animation to video at 0:27-030 is one of your best ever.
My favourite coin is the steam locomotive £2 coin and I recently found a 1899 coin with Queen Victoria on it in my fireplace of all places. I like the steam locomotive £2 coin because it's the first special coin I ever found. It was given to me by a really nice dude at this shop locally as change for when I bought a chocolate bar.
My favourite Commemorative coin is the two hundred years of Griqua Town coinage (1815-2015) it was issued as a five Rand coin here in South Africa
I found one of the Sherlock coins while I was working! Being a cashier is a great way to see new coins but quite often I have to give them away as change before the end of my shift 😭
I’ve never read Sherlock homes but I should probably get on that soon.
You will enjoy, I am sure.
Dude your video-editing style is amazing and very unique. Suscribed!
Lovely video! Recently I found a 2€ Treaty of Rome in my change! I love coin collecting and the Sherlock is one of my favorites
I actually started to collect quarters because someone i knew gave me a quarter map. The idea was to find quarters with the US states on them. There's fifty in total.
Chris your videos are truly AMAZING!!! All the other RUclips channels are so loud and you are so calm and relaxing!!! I wish you were my teacher! Keep up the great work!!!
Nice presentation there! I love the design of your pre decimal coinage. Hope you make a video about it. 😍 😍
4:29 I live in London and my road skips House #101. I guess that doesn't count as the numbers aren't technically in the wrong order.
How strange, I'd love to know why
All of them are amazing because in Romania we for our coins we just have a metal disk with the definition on it like 50 or 10 so its very nice to have so many cool coins Here in england
This actually got m into coin collecting! Thanks Chris you are inspiring me everyday!!!
Wow, it's really new to me the history of Baker Street 221B.
Thanks for the info mate
d'day oversized 50p has to be my favourite as I love world war 2 history and the design is brilliant
I feel really lucky as i got a Sherlock Holmes coin yesterday in my change. Lovely video dude
Well done.
Lies
Your videos are lovely and very informative! Keep up the good job, you're wonderfully geeky! Love it!
Yey a new vid! Sorry im late. Keep up the good work Chris!
Great video man, keep it up!
hi Chris I clicked as soon as I saw the notification. Love your videos. Thanks for entertaining me.
I'm glad you like them :)
I was directed here from the Tim Traveler. What a delightful channel! I was at the Sherlock Holmes Museum. It was fun!
I also have the Tom kitten coin and it’s my favourite too.
That is...The BEST 50p coin yet!
BTW if you ever visit Whitby there’s a Sherlock themed coffee shop
It really is! I'll be sure to check it out if I'm there :)
Thanks to this video of yours I have visited the Sherlock Holmes Museum and the Beatles store when I visited London.
I am very thankful for it.
As usual, an excellent video. If you are a huge Sherlock fan, I highly recommend you listen to some of the old radio plays staring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce
I used to collect coins as a kid, so stumbling upon this video was such a nice surprise. Thank you!
The city in which Conan Doyle first created and wrote Sherlock Holmes which is Portsmouth should have museums like this too.
Loved the video and the wooden background!
Didnt even know this, thanks for telling us!
I found this cool coin in my change and immediately remembered your video! You’re my favourite youtuber and you inspired me to start my own RUclips channel! 🤩
Chris,What you said a about Coin Collecting makes me how I feel about stamp collecting. Something so small yet so beautiful
They're amazing, just tiny pieces of art countries have designed that best represent themselves! :) Did you notice all the stamps in this video? There were some Sherlock ones, UK Olympic stamps, San Marino, New Zealand, Hong Kong and India on the envelopes!
@@HalfAsleepChris Oh yes! They made the inner philatelist in me geek out :D
That’s cool
Yay! Chris, your videos and you particularly are amazing!
By the way, I've found a hryvnia coin from 2005 commemorating 60 years since the end of WW2 in my change
Thanks a lot! Just googled it - what a cool coin!
My favourite coin in my collection is a 1943 silver American dime, I found it walking in sand dunes in North Devon, UK. It must have been dropped by a GI who was training here in preparation for the Normandy invasion in June '44... Not only my first ever silver coin find, but I was not using a detector!!
Great video Chris, keep 'em coming!!!
I’ve never heard of that! You have such interesting vids that teach me such cool stuff!❤️😁 Love this video!❤️❤️
Thanks a lot glad to hear it!
I absolutely love to collect those coins. I have about 40 special release 50p and quite a few pounds and 2 pound coins
I found a Sherlock 50p in my change the other day and got really excited because I love Sherlock
See Chris is rich. In EVERYTHING
My favorite ones are Stephen Hawking's 50p and Sherlock Holmes's 50p coins. Both were released this year.
I love the Stephen Hawking one! Kind of frustrating that it didn't go into circulation, but the Sherlock one is confirmed to be :)
Elementary my dear Chrison
This made me laugh :)
The game's a foot, Chrison.
My favourite coin is the Ironside 50p. Love the simplicity of it! Although the Sherlock (which in got today) and the Stephen Hawking 50ps are pretty amazing too
I am a coin collector and I have over 80 collectors coins....Without duplicates. I collect 50p's and £2's....I am 14 and I love collecting coins and it's great to watch someone with much knowledge about collectors coins....
I think you have the most clear and precise pronunciation I've ever heard. Kudos.
This is so interesting! Love the detective work ☺️
Thanks a lot Camille!
This is not an insult, but your videos help me sleep. They're so calm and the cat ones especially help me sleep. Dont get me wrong, you're one of my top ten favorite youtubers. Thanks for making entertaining and calming videos.
Cool video, and you made it very interesting. Thank you!
Is it weird that I only watch your videos when I'm half-asleep?
me too.
@@mitk3ns895 hey mitkens, i knew you from discord. You were banned which i guess is a bummer that we didn't had a conversation once at the server. But yeah nice meeting ya have a good day!
My favourite coin is the shilling the last coin I got was a Irish 50p
Chris I really like your videos. You have a new subscriber from Florida!!!
Fascinating! Thank you. I am a Sherlock fan, and it was interesting to know the London history and sites. 🌝
I'm a coin collector and I'm collecting coins, stamps, and currencies from all over the world for 8 yrs and still ongoing.I mainly focus on INDIAN coins as there is a very huge variety of commemorative coins which are very artistic, and has both vibrant and elegant designs.I mainly focus on INDIAN coins because, I'm from INDIA from my perspective they are the
best of their kind ,and variety.I highly suggest you to collect, and to know more about INDIAN coins, and I'm sure you will love it.
What a great storyteller you are! More please.
I've had 40 or so of the Sherlock coins arrive as change at the coffee shop I work in. Swapped out a few to add to the collection...
Man all of this talk of Baker Street is making me crave for baked goods
This video was really interesting! I am a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes and actually started reading the Hound Of The Baskervilles on what would have been Conan Doyle's 160th birthday purely by chance and I'm hoping to get to visit 221b Baker Street at some time this month. I don't have a Sherlock Holmes 50p, but really want one as I also collect coins. Unfortunately my collection is quite small, and consists mainly of mangled pennies from various places, but I also have a Peter Rabbit 50p, a London Underground £2, a couple of different coins from Jersey and even a hapenny
What awesome coins the UK has! 😍 Lovely video!
Thanks a lot! :)
I live in Czech republic and got a Thomas Garique Masaryk coin in my change. There were only about 35 000 made!
