The short term memory is you seeming to forget that he tells Grace he felt they were just friends when I'm sure he never relayed any of that to Samantha. I'm not a Sam fan personally but I can still see the guy played her. She sensed his lack of interest from his reluctance to be affectionate while claiming to be very into PDA and even addressed it.
